Stage 2 Research Project

Length of Course: 2 semesters (10 credits) compulsory, completed in Year 11

Prerequisites: Nil

Students will complete the Stage 2 Research Project during Year 11. The course will run for the whole year and students will have their work submitted for moderation and marking at the SACE Board in the December reporting period.

• The Research Project is a compulsory Stage 2 10 credit subject. Students must achieve a C- grade or higher in this subject to be awarded their

SACE. This subject can be used in the calculation of an ATAR. • As part of this subject students need to choose a topic of personal interest, utilise a variety of relevant research processes to research their topic question in detail and present their findings as an outcome. The whole project is then evaluated or reviewed by the student. The aim is that students work independently with guidance from teachers. Students must choose one of the

SACE capabilities that is most relevant to their research to integrate into their project. Content: Students need to complete work covering the following key areas: • Research Proposal • Research Development • Outcome • Evaluation or Review

Assessment: Research Project can be studied as Research Project A or Research Project B. While both strands can be used in the calculation of an ATAR, some students may benefit from studying Research Project A. This decision is made by the Research Project teacher in consultation with the student and their parent/ caregivers. The below summarises the key elements for both.
