Backlash Cancelled events, panic buys, empty airports and holiday lets. 2020 has had a rocky start with drought, bushfires, floods and now a global pandemic. It’s been said before on these pages but… Perhaps we shouldn’t be electing slogan bogan adman PMs who believe in the literal interpretation of the Rapture and end times? Q Q Q Q

The Mullum & District Neighbourhood Centre say they have been inundated by residents unable to get what they need at supermarkets. ‘They could not get what they can afford. We estimate that we can provide food parcels for a another two days (as of Monday). Anyone who can… please consider sharing with us so we can share with others.’ Q Q Q Q
As COVID-19 unfolds and upcoming events become uncertain, it’s probably best to check by phone or website that they will continue. The Ngara event on March 25 is still up in the air, say organisers, and they suggest checking their Facebook page to make sure. Additionally, www.echo.net.au will update the list as cancellations and closures come to hand. Q Q Q Q

Clearly West Byron is a project that can only occur when a group of developers have too much capital (to pay for endless court challenges and DA amendments) and have no respect for the community they inhabit. To keep foisting such an inappropriate development upon a community – that has time and time again rejected it – speaks volumes of the ‘locals’ who clearly want to ruin the place. St Johns Primary School in Mullumbimby has also postponed its school fete, planned for this Friday, as well as a school trip. Q Q Q Q
