FREE COMEDY AT THE BIG GIG Originally hailing from Adelaide, with more than 20 years stand up comedy experience, and multiple television and radio appearances, Steven J Whitely has toured everywhere in and around Australia and overseas. Nicknamed The Bogan Prince of Australian Comedy, because of his laconic, fair-dinkum jokes and matter-of-fact attitude, Steven J is a crowd favourite throughout Australia and New Zealand. He has performed with the likes of Stephen K Amos, Ed Byrne, Adam Hills, Steady Eddy and Jimeoin, to name just a few. He now performs extensively on cruise ships around the world, but likes to tour Australia when he’s back on home soil.

Steven J is the writer and performer of a number of highly successful Adelaide Fringe and Melbourne International Comedy Festival shows, aptly named Natural Born Komedian and Natural Born Komedian 2 – Born Again, which attracted the attention of Mary Tobin, who asked him to compere one of her productions ‘The Best of the Ed Fest’, with Stephen K Amos and Ed Byrne.

Mercury retrograde in Scorpio and Venus in Sagittarius, makes this week’s best accessories a sense of humour and a thick skin…

TAURUS: This week’s strong propensity to argufy, a word meaning argue aimlessly with no result, needs the famous Taurean patience to be hauled out of the closet, dusted off, and given the director’s chair. Your reward is Venus currently playing a very vivacious vixen; full forward and flirty – but also flighty. GEMINI: While Venus is in quite a frisky, fun mood, the next three weeks of Mercury retrogrades’ interpersonal and technical hiccups need you backing up files, making duplicates and taking no risks. If this feels like being overly cautious or paranoid, it really is worth taking every precaution during this fractious transit. CANCER: Sorry Crab clan, but this is a particularly itchy/ scratchy week when what can go wrong, will, along with other things you hadn’t even imagined. So shift focus away from the squalling chorus of glitches and bitching to Venus in socialising, party mode: cook up some practical magic in your favorite venue; entertaining at home. LEO: Of course you’re a person, actually more of a personage, but this week suggests if Mercury retro-vibes have you moody, super sensitive and easily offended – not to take everything personally. Ease up on the sense of urgency, dial down the drama, get out and about because Venus is in a very friendly and frolicsome mode. VIRGO: With Virgo’s personal planet mentor upending your communication headquarters you can’t be too careful how you express yourself: verbally, virtually, via writing, even body language. It’s too easy to give unintended offence, so if you need to vent or rant (and who won’t this week?) write it out and save to drafts. Do not press send.

He is supported by two-time Melbourne International Raw Comedy QLD finalist, and local girl, Lisa Sharpe. Lisa will surprise and resonate with you as she shares her life stories and home truths with hilarious honesty. She dishes out the dirt on those she loves the most – and that could be you. Lisa grew up in Ballina and is very excited to be performing in

After a two year break from performing, Stephen J returned to the stage in 2010 to critical acclaim. His natural style and off-centre observations on almost every topic; including facebook, Australian town names and even

ARIES: As November takes the gloves off, competitiveness increases and tension could erupt in shared ventures. So do what you do best: widen your viewfinder to broader perspectives and adventurous solutions. Make use of this excellent transit for research to refine whatever you’re presenting: whether that’s ideas, verbal pitches or something more tangible.

dinosaurs, have had audiences everywhere roaring with laughter. Regularly travelling to Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and regional Australia, Steven will be sure to be performing near you soon, don’t miss the opportunity to check out this very original comedian.

LIBRA: Venus, your planet manager in Sagittarius, is festive, fun-loving and extravagant. Which could clash with Mercury retrogrades’ tendency to suddenly come up with unexpected expenses that stretch the budget to uncomfortability. But why stress when, who – if not you – knows how to do life beautifully without it costing a bomb? SCORPIO: Mercury retro in Scorpio for the rest of your month-in-the-sun isn’t the ideal birthday scenario. But since it’s what you’ve got, how to make the most of it; By being aware of the need to tread super-carefully – like walking on eggshells in stilettos – in all tricky, delicate situations. And treating all situations as tricky or delicate. SAGITTARIUS: Mercury’s retrograde is in the sign of secrets, so don’t believe everything you read, hear or even think – this week’s information needs checking. Avoid exercises like jumping to conclusions, making assumptions or delivering ultimatums. And the good news? Venus, the planet of popularity, is in Sagittarius, so even if you do all of the above – you’ll still be loved. CAPRICORN: Project manager Mercury shifting into reverse kick-starts three weeks of scrambled messages, misread communications, interpersonal misunderstandings and general disgruntlement. Silver lining? Venus in your house of healingtransitions is saying slow down, rather than push forward, because a gracious, graceful response to bickering and glitches will best serve you and everyone else. AQUARIUS: If reverse Mercury has impetus draining out of an initiative like air from a balloon, projects stalling, slowing down or which just can’t seem to gain traction – go back to the drawing board and see what could be rejigged. An application of Venusian respect, affection, generosity and consideration usually oils the machinery of the social carousel. PISCES: Suffering star-charts! Three weeks of Mercury retrograde irritations, frustrations and delays just when you least expected and most don’t need them! People saying one thing and doing the opposite, unpredictable outbursts – what’s the antidote? Venus lightening all this intensity with invites to end of year festivities and functions…

cinema HUSTLERS Directed by Lorene Scafaria, starring Constance Wu and Jennifer Lopez, and based on an article by Jessica Pressler. The article detailed a true-crime story in NYC – where former strip club employees banded together to target the pockets of a group of sleazy Wall Street clients. You can still access the original article if you are interested in reading it. Jessica Pressler admits, while writing the article, that her main subject – known as Rosie – didn’t always tell the truth. And although this is a true story, it is hard to gauge how much of it is true, if based solely on the article. The film focuses on the exhilarating manipulation of the Wall Street brokers, and the high-flying life that the theft enabled the strip

club employees to live. However, it doesn’t really explore the emotional nuances for each protagonist, in terms of how they felt during the whole process, and it glosses over the final outcome and consequences of it all. Although the performances are good – especially from Lopez. If

the story had dug a little deeper into the inner workings of each character, it would have elevated the movie. Having said that, it is without a doubt, a feel good (in an illegal sort of way) film, that highlights female power and bold ambition. A very entertaining film.
