BREAKFAST ME UP, SCOTTY! With Mothers Day around the corner, here’s a great idea! Get Mum a ticket to have breakfast with Denise Scott the following Sunday! It’s a great treat for her to look forward to! She can spend Mothers Day enjoying a bit of family love, with Denise in the diary for the following Sunday! You can’t help but love Denise Scott. Only a few weeks ago she was a contestant on Dancing with the Stars. Now she’s the host! That’s how it rolls for Denise – she’s a ‘just say yes’ kinda gal. Dancing for a comedian isn’t always easy! ‘I was terrified,’ laughs Denise. ‘But it was great. Doing the dance was so hard. I was the second to be eliminated. It feels shithouse when it happens. I felt alright at first and then I went home. It’s horrible because it’s based on public voting and the judges. I really thought 30-odd years of comedy would have prepared me, but it’s serious rejection and that hurts!’ It’s refreshing to hear someone talk about it what it really feels like – those shows are often very intense and super competitive. On the upside Denise did get very fit! ‘I was dancing about five hours a day. I got a lot fitter and my dancing partner, fortunately, was amenable to having coffees and listening to me tell long-winded stories. When I started I was so unfit and by the end I was alright. It was so incredible having a daily routine, and I really looked after myself. Generally I eat and drink what I want and move occasionally!’ With Grant Denyer the show host being out of action with serious back issues, Denise was called back as the show host. She’s also a regular on Studio 10, another high-profile posting that puts Denise

smack bang in everyone’s lounge rooms at least once a day! ‘I love Studio 10,’ says Denise. ‘It’s full on, because you really do have to talk about a lot of stuff! The show is three and a half hours long so you cover a lot of topics, or pretend to know about them! I think, Oh well get in there and have an opinion! Although that can backfire from time to time. ‘I’ve mainly managed to avoid creating a controversy, which I am grateful for,’ says Denise, who admits that it is hard to manage criticism. It’s a good idea, says Denise, to stay off socialmedia pages of the shows you are on! ‘It’s where trouble lives!’ ‘I am sensitive to it; I am not tough at all. I just saw Maria Bamford and she does this great routine; she writes about Trump a lot, and she was saying I never knew I would have so much in common with the extreme right wing. ‘Maria, you are a crazy cunt, yeah I am, why don’t you go kill yourself; it was funny I thought that!’ Well when Denise joined Studio 10 she did replace Ita; those are pretty big boots to fill! Denise is looking forward to coming to Byron for her breakfast comedy show at the Byron Comedy Festival. ‘I haven’t done a show in a while and I am really looking forward to it.’ Denise Scott is the headline comedian at Byron Comedy Fest on Sunday 19 May at 10am. Tix are $55 including breakfast. Byron Surf Club. byroncomedyfest.com
