Thousands support Stop Adani Convoy

the massive Adani mine is planned. Brown said he was delighted that so many took time from their Easter Sunday to stand for the environment. ‘This is the biggest turnout anywhere in Australia,’ he said. ‘In the election campaign, it is a simple issue that goes to the heart of Australia as a nation: do we vote for the deadly effects of the Adani mine, or do we vote for a secure future for our children?’

Sixteen-year-old Mia Thom called on voters to save the future from the climate emergency. After an Aboriginal welcome to country, Midnight Oil’s Rob Hirst spoke to the crowd, as did fellow musicians Lukas Nelson, Moreton, and Australian actor Isabel Lucas. ‘This is an issue that is amazingly still there after all this time,’ said Hirst. ‘We thought it might have gone away by now. What a crazy idea,

Global awakening US musician Lukas Nelson also shared his thoughts on coal. ‘There is a global awakening now,’ he said. ‘We are starting to realise that the old ways aren’t working.’ Brown called opening new coal mines like Adani a ‘criminal act’ in light of the estimated 150,000 deaths from global warming worldwide last year. The convoy left Mullum and spent the night in Brisbane, then held a street rally against the Adani mine on Monday, with speakers including businessman Geoff Cousins.
