Barrio Eatery & Bar have a monthly collaborative cooking event called Slinging Plates. They invite local restauranteurs, chefs, and sommeliers to create affordable dishes at fixed price points for the local community to enjoy. Held on the last Tuesday of every month, the menu is designed by a different culinary artist, allowing them the opportunity to work with local producers, and the freedom to create something different from what they’re usually known for. This Tuesday 30 April Barrio head chef Francisco Smoje welcomes Peruvian chefs Andres and Franco from A Chefs Pocket, who will share the real soul food of Peru with vibrant dishes highlighting the variety of fresh produce available in the Northern Rivers. Wine will be supplied by Jed Merchants. Peruvian cuisine is known for its fusion of historical influences from local populations such as the Incas, and native and traditional food plants such as quinoa, chilli, sweet potatoes, and corn with colonising and immigrants from Europe, Africa, and Asia. ‘We’re looking forward to cooking a Peruvian feast with Andres and Franco from A Chefs Pocket as we invite new Latin American flavours, new energy in the kitchen, and new friends to Barrio,’ says Francisco Smoje, who was himself born in Argentina. Prices will be $10 / $20 plates (meat

Harvest Festival this Sat Don’t forget, the Harvest Autumn Fair, showcasing the Northern Rivers’ amazing chefs, farmers, and food and beverage producers is on this weekend! Running from 10am till 4pm on Saturday 27 April 2019 at North Byron Parklands, the Fair will be a family-friendly event – a country fair to celebrate our region’s harvest. Amongst others, Harvest Newrybar, Beach Byron Bay and Three Blue Ducks, Stone & Wood and Cape Byron Distillery will be there. Plus there will be an array of Northern Rivers Food stallholders providing samples and selling produce, plus kids’ activities including tractor rides. www.northernriversfood.org
