The Mullumbimby side of Paul Gray, Ben Leeson and Richie Northcott fought their way back into the contest and by the tenth end they were in the leading by 8–6. Steve Massey took Nothcott’s bowl away to give Kingscliff one shot. Neither skip was able to change the situation and Mullumbimby hung on to deservedly take the title over a gallant Kingscliff by the thinnest possible margin, 18–17.

Syl Reid The Byron Bay second XI collected a good win in their top-of-the-table game against Lennox Head playing away at Megan Crescent oval last Saturday. The Cellars seconds won the toss and elected to bat and eventually hit up 8/207 off 40 overs, but had to recover from a precarious 3/19. Matt Irwin top scored with hit 68 runs closely followed by Mitch Loane on a lusty 59 and Ryan McGuiness hit a rapid 36 runs. Lennox Head started their chase well with captain/ wicketkeeper and opening bat Bruce Young topping

their score with a solid 71 runs. Late in the order James Barnes got 44 not out, but their innings finished in the 36th over on 184, 23 runs short. Toby Schott returned figures of 3/32 and Heath Chigwidden got 2/26 on his return to the Byron side. Lachlan Whiteford, Levi Shouldice and skipper Matt Irwin (who got their skipper out LBW) shared the other wickets. There were two run-outs as well. So the Cellars seconds batted strongly, then bowled and fielded well to get a great win putting themselves seond on the ladder behind Lennox Head.

Crystal Cylinders Byron Bay’s Soli Bailey maintained his excellent barrel-riding reputation with a quarterfinal finish at the Volcom Pipe Pro on Hawaii’s North Shore. He top scored with an excellent 8.5 super-deep Pipe wave where he disappeared, and then when all looked lost, re-appeared in a Houdini-like manner. With his result Bailey has kick-started his year goal to back up his Championship Tour debut at Snapper Rocks with more appearances in qualifying events. He scored US$950 at the QS 3,000 level event.

Byron Bay’s Kyuss King made it into round five. Bailey is a former winner, taking out the prestigious event in 2017. Nyxie Ryan from Lennox Head finished on the podium at the 2019 Lake Macquarie City Pro Junior with her third-place finish netting her $600 and valuable points on the JQS ratings. Nyxie has a chance to qualify for the World Pro Junior championships.
