GET THE MOST OUT OF YOUR FESTIVAL WITH THE ECHO’S SPECIAL LIFTOUT GUIDE SPLENDOUR GENDER This year one thing is abundantly clear from the Splendour lineup: there is a strong representation of women artists. This year’s Splendour definitely has more women on the bill then ever before. This year’s Falls Festival copped some flack about its lack of solid female acts, so it’s clear promoters have been more mindful in including more women and gender diverse acts. Young women are certainly dominating the stage at Splendour, with Lorde performing her only Australian show. Acts such as Haiku Hands bring a lineup of four girls who create an energising experience fusing dance party vibes with performance art. Melbourne singer/ producer and multi-instrumentalist G Flip shows why she’s been heralded such an addictive, bittersweet shard of shimmering pop. Jack River aka Holly Rankin is a girl who is growing her own – heading up Electric Lady, a platform that aims to amplify the strength of women in music and beyond, and All Our Exes Live in Texas bring sass, songs, freaking fabulous frocks to the forefront. These are exciting times for women in music, claiming the stage and delivering in their own right. The blokey festival lineup is a thing of the past. This Splendour, it’s all about gender.
