Our beautiful Gerda is becoming a bit despondent as no-one has come to meet her yet. She doesn't have any of the normal traits of a human teenager, she's very engaging, loving & appreciative of affection. She gets on well with others in the shelter but she really would like a warm bed in a home where she is part of a family. Please share the warmth of your home with the warmth of her heart. LIFE CELEBRATION
Nicholas Ambrose Wells 18/6/91–23/5/16 A celebration of the life of 24-year-old Nicholas Ambrose Wells, of Brunswick Heads, will be held at Torakina Park on Saturday, June 4, at 1pm. Nick, as he was affectionately known to his many friends throughout Byron Shire, had recently moved back home to his family at Brunswick Heads after working for three years in Sydney building up his trade career and to be with his baby daughter, Sapphire. He was set to celebrate his 25th birthday on 18 June and was looking forward to a new life back in the area he grew up in and to be among those he loved: his soul-mate sister Tamsyn, his proud little bro Sebastian, his dear Nana Barbara, adored mum Sue, dad Serle and step-dad Luis.
All welcome to share stories and reminisce on Nick’s life at Torakina Park, Brunswick Heads, on Saturday 4 June, at 1pm. North Coast news daily: www.echonetdaily.net.au

Attacker Aaron Walker relentless in the attack for Byron. Story & photo Dogwhistle
The Northern Hotel Byron Bay Rams went into Sunday’s clash with league leaders, Richmond Rovers, with another new lineup thanks to their ongoing staffing woes. Draftees from other grades featured in both games but the Rams’ determination and competitive spirit were undiminished. The final scorelines were remarkably unrepresentative of the play. The Rams Reserves battled hard in an end-to-end struggle that saw them scoreless into the break. Rovers broke the deadlock fifteen minutes into the second half and five minutes later a long-ball led to their second. A third Rovers goal sealed the match for the Lismore Reserves against a much closer run of play. The Premier Division match started inauspiciously for the Rams with a first-minute rush on the Byron goals and a clearance from Byron keeper Griffin Bambach that rebounded off the oncoming striker into the net. Stung by the setback, the Rams pressed hard and forced Rovers into a scrambling ten-man defence of their lead. The play was all Byron, with the Rovers’ keeper hammered by shots from all sides
and screaming at his defence for support. Fifteen minutes in a long-ball counterattack and tidy attacking gave Rovers their second goal leading into the break. The contest intensified in the second half, with Rovers fighting to keep their advantage and the Rams pulling out all the stops. As pressure mounted, the match became more physical and a free corner kick from Thiago Priori found the head of James Tomlinson to put the Rams back into the game. Five minutes later, a Sam Owens cross beat the Rovers’ defence and the equaliser was driven into the net by a hard-charging Herick Schuenemann. The remaining 25 minutes produced a relentless onslaught from Will Ennis, Aaron Walker, Tyson Kaye and the entire Byron midfield. Despite a powerful performance from the Rams’ squad and standouts Walker, Schuenemann, McDonald, Altarui and Ennis, the match remained locked at 2–2 down to the end. The draw keeps Byron in touch with leaders Goonellabah and Rovers going into Round 9 against Alstonville at home this Saturday. Reserves kick off at 1pm and the Prems at 3pm.
Dogs and Lions please the AFL crowd Dean Trevaskis
The Bruns Bulldogs and Casino Lions under-11s teams put on a real crowd-pleaser at Stan Thompson Oval on Sunday. In a free-flowing game of footy the Doggies flew the boxes to dominate the first half through efficient disposal and doing the one-percenters. The Lions rallied with a huge third quarter. But as it is every Sunday the cheering wasn’t all about the scoreboard. For Bruns it was Phoenix Islinger backing into a pack, arms outstretched eyes locked on the pill and Ocean Casuarina inspiring
teammates with his hardness at the ball, roadblock tackles and brick-wall shepherds. It was Joel Liljequisi bursting clear with a contested possession and unloading a bomb, Kaliyah Browning slotting goals like Buddy Franklin, Jasper Willis dancing around defenders and the mercurial River Dragonfly snapping half a dozen sausage rolls for the day. Casino gave it everything and had plenty to cheer. But at the bell it was the Doggies first this season giving their song a hearty run. Well, if you live in Brunswick Valley sing along with me: We are the Bulldogs on the road to Victory…
