You hold in your hands the result of a year of dedication from the Creative Writing graduate cohort at the University of Toronto (not to mention that of its contributors). It was our editorial decision to use our position as a post-secondary journal to emphasize the work of emerging writers and artists in our community. Publication in previous issues has often served as an early stepping stone in the careers of successful writers; as writers ourselves, we’re grateful to continue providing a space for artists to showcase their style and voice and to propel them forward.

Echolocation fans may notice that our volume is slightly longer than usual; in fact, we received such a high volume of quality submissions and had such a large, passionate editing team that we found it impossible to cut it down any more. The pieces that we have selected for you represent a range of innovative, compelling artists from across and beyond Canada, working in mediums of visual art, poetry, and short stories.

Each piece printed here has its own spark which intrigued and delighted us, and which we hope will do the same for you. Each is not only a result of the creative work of its author, but that of an editor from our team who helped polish their art for publication. We hope you enjoy reading our volume as much as we enjoyed creating it!

Sincerely,

LettEr From tHe EdiTorS
