Elm City Communities/Housing Authority of New Haven
The Homefront Reconnecting with Our Neighbors, Our Community, & Making a Difference
Welcome from the Interim President ECC Members & Friends: With summer right around the corner, we look forward to the next chapter in our community’s story. I first want to begin by thanking the entire Elm City Communities/Housing Authority of the City of New Haven community for making my transition from Senior Vice President of the Glendower Group to the Interim President of ECC/HANH a smooth process. As we collectively prepare to tackle a postpandemic reality, I am committed to adapting to our new normal together and creating provisions for your safety and wellbeing. ECC/HANH are founding partners in the Vaccinate Fair Haven effort that provides a state model for adequate equitybased vaccine access. Our staff and hundreds of volunteers have gone door-to-door to ensure that every resident in the Fair Haven neighborhood had the ability to schedule their vaccination appointments. We’ve knocked on over 5,648 doors and offered vaccination assistance. We also had a popup clinic and canvassed our Brookside, Rockview, and our Wilmont Crossing properties to offer vaccination opportunities. In addition to our initiatives to combat Covid-19, we have also been busy modernizing our communities. In May, we received a grant in the amount of $3.7 million for lead abatement. I’m happy to report that in the past month, Essex Townhouses (35 units) have been completed and are now lead safe. (cont’d pg. 4)
ECC/HANH President Karen DuBois-Walton Steps Down ECC/HANH staff, Charles T. McQueeney residents, family members, and community partners gathered at the rear of the main office building at 360 Orange Street on Thursday, April 29th to say farewell to Karen DuBois-Walton. As the leader of the ECC/HANH for the past 14 years, she officially stepped down from her position as President effective April 30th. On Tuesday, April 20th, the Board voted unanimously to provide DuBoisWalton with a Leave of Absence (LOA) until September, 30 2021 (or until such further time may be in the interest of the Authority) and for Shenae Draughn to be appointed as the Interim President. As of May 1st, Draughn was no longer the Senior Vice President of The Glendower Group, Inc. DuBois-Walton sought to delve further into her work with the New Haven mayoral exploratory committee which was officially announced (cont’d pg. 2)
