Welcome To The Club

Maria Thannhauser ’14 drained a three-pointer in the second half against Nazareth College on February 15th to become the fifth player in EC history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. She becomes the first player to do so since teammate Jessica Zoltowski ’14 achieved this feat on February 8th of the 2012-13 campaign.

Just One More

Elmira is currently fourth in the Empire 8 Conference standings with two more games to be played in the regular season. However, the Soaring Eagles are not out of the woods yet as EC still needs one win to clinch an Empire 8 playoff spot, as St. John Fisher College is nipping at their heels for playoff contention. The Purple and Gold will play against third-placed Stevens Tech and second-placed Hartwick College to close out the Soaring Eagles’ regular season.

Not Since ’07

With one more win, the EC women will make the Empire 8 playoffs for the first time since the 2006-07 season. In that season, the Purple and Gold went 21-7 and went into the Empire 8 Tournament as the number one seed. The Soaring Eagles made it to the championship game, but fell in overtime to Ithaca College, 97-92.

Starters Getting It Done

The starting five of Jessica Zoltowski ’14, Liz Forrest ’14, Alex Balara ’15, Maria Thannhauser ’14, and Meghan Loya ’16 have scored 97.9 percent of the team’s total points over the past three games. Against Penn Tech the starters scored 68 of 70 points, against Ithaca College they scored all 57 points, and against Nazareth College they dropped 56 of 58 points. The 100 percent against Ithaca matches the output against Carnegie Mellon University on November 18, 2011.
