Home Opener
The Soaring Eagles opened the 2014-15 season in the confines of Speidel gymnasium on November 15th against Pitt-Bradford and fell to the Panthers, 71-47. Trailing by just five points with 3:34 left in the first half, the Panthers closed the half on an 8-2 run to take the momentum into halftime. Pitt-Bradford would outscore Elmira 38-25 in the second half to down the Purple and Gold.
A Sign Of Things To Come?
Rookie Danielle Cleary ’18 led the Soaring Eagles in scoring with 14 points against Pitt-Bradford. This is the first time a first-year player has led the Purple and Gold in scoring in a season opener in their rookie season since former EC standout Jessica Zoltowksi ’14 dropped 14 points against SUNY Cortland on November 16th, 2010. Zoltowski went on to become Elmira College’s all-time leading scorer with 1,631 career points.
Empire 8 Rookie of the Week
For her efforts against Pitt-Bradford, Danielle Cleary ’18 was named the Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week. Along with her 14 points, she added two rebounds, an assist, and a team-high three blocks. Cleary becomes the first player from Elmira to be named Empire 8 Rookie of the Week in over four years.
Rebounding Monster
Meghan Loya ’16 pulled down 17 rebounds against Pitt-Bradford on November 15th. Not only did she improve her former career-best of 11, this is the most rebounds an EC player has made since Erin Rupell ’11 collected 17 on February 21st, 2009 against St. John Fisher College.
