Double-Digit Wins

After splitting a pair of games last weekend, the Elmira men hold a 10-13 overall record. This is the first time since the 2002-03 season that EC has posted double-digit victories. Elmira went 12-13 that year, the last of a 12-year stretch in which the Soaring Eagles posted at least 10 wins.

Third Year in a Row

The 69-68 win over Ithaca College marks the third consecutive season that Elmira has defeated their nearby Empire 8 rival. Prior to EC’s victory over the Bombers on February 10, 2012, the first win in this three-year stretch, the Soaring Eagles had lost 19 straight games to Ithaca.

One for the Dramatics

The Soaring Eagles are no strangers to drama as they have had several games come down to the final possession, including their 69-68 loss to Ithaca on January 28th. EC reversed their fortunes against the Bombers the second time around, pulling out a 69-68 victory after Tyler Dibble ’15 scored the go-ahead layup with 2.5 seconds remaining.

Dibble Comes Up Clutch

Tyler Dibble ’15 played the hero against Ithaca with his late score, but he came up clutch down the stretch in other ways as well. Dibble made all six of his shots in the second half, including the game-winning layup, but it was the sequence with about eight minutes left that turned the game back in EC’s favor. Dibble cut Ithaca’s lead to two points with a basket down low and then stole the ball in the backcourt on the ensuing Bomber possession, setting Neil Randolph ’15 up for a fast break three-pointer.
