Last Time Out
The Soaring Eagles dropped to 6-11 on the season after falling to Utica College and SUNY Cortland on January 23rd and 24th. A late Utica run sealed EC’s 78-59 defeat and a split of the season series on Friday, while SUNY Cortland withstood a valiant effort from the Purple and Gold to pull out the 54-43 win at Speidel Gymnasium.
Looking to End the Skid
EC enters tonight’s game against the Blue Devils on a four-game losing streak, their longest of the season. The four-game skid comes on the heels of Elmira’s three-game win streak, all of which came against Empire 8 opponents. The Soaring Eagles also had a four-game losing streak last season, with that streak coming at the same time of the season as this year.
Non-Conference Finale
Tonight’s game against Fredonia State is Elmira’s ninth, and final, non-conference game of the season. The Soaring Eagles played eight of the nine away from home and have posted a 2-6 record in nonconference games this season. This comes after going 3-6 in non-conference games last season.
Defense Steps Up
EC may have fallen to SUNY Cortland, but their defense kept them within reach of the Red Dragons for nearly the entire duration of the game. The Soaring Eagles held Cortland to nearly 20 points below their season average and limited their top two scorers, who entered the game averaging a combined 29.0 points per game, to just 10 points and 20 percent shooting on the evening.
