from the editors In these confusing and difficult times, constantly being bombarded with news of COVID-19, it is easy to feel helpless and isolated. When considering next steps for InLight, Sigita and I decided to forge ahead and publish another issue as soon as possible. We figured that everyone could use a little extra light and hope in their life, and this issue is intended to bring those things to you! In addition, we’d like to add that if you know someone who is struggling with social distancing and isolation that you please check in with them, and provide them a space to talk and stay connected.

Remember, as a community, we value compassion and empathy, even in quarantine! Reach out to those who may need it and check in with them.

Remember that you are not alone during this time and that others are going through similar situations. – Kyra Layman ‘21

Chloe Rosenbaum '23

Hi, I'm Chloe, and I’m a freshman this year. Quarantine has been difficult for me so far, since I miss my friends and I don't like being in the house. However, I've found that going for runs, doing some track conditioning that our coach, Peter, sent to the team, and going for walks helps me stay healthy and calm. Every day I try to walk four to five miles or run two or three, and some days I do some conditioning so that I'm not staring at my screen for hours! As well as spending lots of time outdoors, I'm trying to eat healthily, and stay in touch with my friends.

After a long day of schoolwork and exercise, I like to wind down with some peaceful video games like The Sims and Stardew Valley. Whenever possible, I make TikToks with my sister, Sasha, and FaceTime friends and family.

Every Sunday my extended family has a Zoom call with my aunts, uncles, and cousins from my mom's side of the family. Last Sunday we played a family Kahoot with lots of inside jokes and everyone was laughing and having fun!

So far, I've been doing okay, but I'm still hoping we'll go back to school soon!

Sidney Howlett '21 The end of the school year was supposed to be about getting ready for prom and holding back tears at graduation as I watched my friends walk across the stage, instead of staying inside until God knows when because of a severe pandemic outbreak that would cause hundreds of thousands of deaths. No one expected COVID-19 to stop the world or to take away loved ones and friends. My name is Sidney Howlett, I’m sixteen, a junior in high school and it has been 51 days since I’ve been at school or seen my friends. Quarantine sucks, but so does getting the virus or infecting other people with their own lives, families, and problems. Time isolated away from the rest of the world hasn’t been all bad though: I’ve been learning to cook with the guidance of my mom and grandma, as well as baking goodies for my family, knitting, attempting to make clothes, and reading. I have hope that when COVID-19 dies down and we are all able to go outside, people will not take for granted the time that they have with their family and friends.

Hope is really all that matters during these hard times. Personally, thinking positive about the good things that have come from COVID-19 has been a great way for me to not feel as stressed out about the pandemic and what I hear in the news about the US economy and the number of deaths per day. Plus, sending out good energy and prayers towards health care workers is also another way that makes me feel as though I am giving them another layer of protection.

Quarantine for me has been a time of selfreflection and spending time with my family because you can’t get this resting time back.
