Program EBI was founded to be a pre-kinder-8th grade, Spanish/English bilingual school with the intention of being authorized to offer the IB Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes. EBI’s 2008 strategic plan also placed priority on the school becoming accredited by CAIS and WASC. EBI is now authorized by the IB to offer the PYP and is an MYP candidate school. Additionally, EBI has been accredited by both CAIS and WASC until 2021. Over the last 8 years, EBI established a strong base for its program. In the next 5 years, the faculty and staff will focus on assessing and evaluating the program to make ongoing refinements and modifications to increase student learning aligned with our mission and core values.
Diversity
Goal: Formalize a system for using
assessment, evaluation and professional development to continually improve student learning and the overall program as envisioned in our mission and core values. Key strategies: 1. Ensure that EBI's learning outcomes reflect the EBI mission and core values of bilingualism, educational excellence, diversity, international mindedness and character. 2. Expand the EBI curriculum through 8th grade in alignment with the IB. 3. Achieve MYP authorization and maintain PYP authorization and CAIS and WASC accreditations. 4. Develop systems for collecting and analyzing student learning data to continually improve the teaching and learning process. 5. Develop systems for using student learning and other data to inform the faculty and staff professional development plan. 6. Continue to develop the EBI library collection and information systems to support our program.
Diversity is a founding core value and a key element of EBI’s mission. Understanding the world from different perspectives is central to critical thinking and the IB program. Additionally, EBI recognizes that in our society opportunities are often inequitable and can depend on where people find themselves with respect to dominant cultural norms. We believe that by working to eliminate these barriers to opportunity within our school, we exemplify the character and values we wish to engender in our students. Over time, EBI has expanded, deepened and strengthened our commitment to diversity as evidenced by the formal adoption of EBI’s Philosophy Statement on Diversity, Multiculturalism and Inclusivity. Today we have active groups at the family, faculty and staff, and board levels working collaboratively towards our diversity goals.
Goal: Further develop our community
of students, educators and families in thought, attitude and action as described in EBI’s Philosophy Statement on Diversity, Multiculturalism and Inclusivity.
Key strategies: 1. Ensure that EBI has a diverse composition of students, faculty, staff, trustees, families and leadership. 2. Advance curricular, co-curricular and community-wide activities that support and nurture a diverse, multicultural and inclusive community. 3. Develop benchmarks on school climate, community experience and student achievement to track EBI’s progress on goals related to diversity, multiculturalism and inclusivity.

EBI has a strong core of teachers who have done outstanding work in creating the successful program now in place. In order to build on the success of the program, we need to continue to attract and hire the best possible teachers and foster an ever-vibrant community of professional educators. Unique considerations in hiring EBI teachers create special demands for the school. Some of these considerations are an international faculty, language fluency, IB experience and an increasing need for teachers with subject-area expertise. Recruiting, hiring and developing teachers who model EBI’s core values are among our highest priorities.

EBI’s ultimate facilities goal is to have all students in the classrooms and auxiliary spaces that best facilitate learning in our unique, dual-immersion, IB program. We designed EBI's 2012 Facilities Master Plan to be flexible so we can optimally respond to changing program needs and enrollment demands as the school grows. We also created a phased approach to the build-out of the San Pablo Campus and improvements at the Alcatraz Campus that allows us to place students in the spaces that best support their different developmental needs in pre-kinder, lower school and middle school.
2015-2020 Technology
EBI has always integrated technology incrementally and in a manner that maximizes learning and school operations. Our community has identified three guiding principles for the adoption of technology: the needs of the program should drive decisions about technology; the success of any technological initiatives depends upon the interest and motivation of the faculty and staff; and EBI will be best served by adhering to best practices and proven technologies when making technologyrelated decisions. Taking these philosophical underpinnings into account, EBI is planning systems and standards that maximize the learning opportunities offered by technology while ensuring safe and appropriate use and appropriate security for facilities, equipment and data.
Goal: Create and implement a comprehensive
system for the adoption and management of technology throughout the school.
Key strategies: 1. 2. 3. 4.
Conduct a full assessment of current technology and curriculum. Articulate a philosophy and vision for technology at EBI. Develop a comprehensive plan for achieving EBI’s vision for technology. Create systems and procedures for the adoption, maintenance and ongoing evaluation of all technologies used by the school.
Advancement
Financial Sustainability
Promoting EBI’s mission depends on a vigorous and dynamic advancement effort. At EBI, advancement refers to activities that cultivate philanthropic support, inspire and guide volunteer engagement, and promote awareness and understanding of EBI and its programs. The EBI advancement staff, in conjunction with the board of trustees and the EBI Parent Association, is charged with creating increasingly sophisticated advancement plans to further our mission.
EBI is developing its middle school program, adding sections in the lower school beginning with kindergarten, continuing our twocampus build-out, and adding faculty and staff in key areas. We are also in a multi-year process of bringing faculty and staff compensation to a more competitive level. We continue to grow our program with an unwavering commitment to the same financial prudence and sensitivity to our diverse population that guided our earliest years.
Goal: Grow philanthropy, volunteerism and marketing
in a manner that reflects our mission and core values. Key strategies: 1. Build awareness of and support for EBI with clear and compelling messages and a simple but effective communications and marketing plan. 2. Grow the culture of philanthropy throughout our community and develop our overall fund development program. 3. Nurture and support a culture of volunteerism throughout the EBI community.
Key strategies: 1. Monitor closely key financial drivers: enrollment, tuition, tuition adjustment, fundraising and operating expenses. 2. Ensure faculty and staff recruitment and retention through planned increases in compensation, benefits and professional development to competitive levels. 3. Continue to refine short- and long-term systems to model and monitor EBI’s financial outlook.
Goal: Manage EBI's resources to
achieve our strategic plan goals and assure our long-term, financial sustainability.
