Dear members of the EBF,
Welcome to (possibly) the only book that you will read this year; the EBF Yearbook! This time, we’ve decided to throw ourselves into the theme of “Organised Chaos.” Why? Because, let’s be honest, isn’t that just the perfect way to sum up the rollercoaster that is our association? Now, we could have gone for something straightforward, but where’s the fun in that? Instead, we’ve embraced the crazy, the unexpected, and the downright chaotic nature of the EBFamily.
As your EBF Board, we’re thrilled to say that this year has been one of the best years of our lives. Our board year began July 3rd, 2023, as a group of individuals with different backgrounds and interests, but with a common goal to raise the EBF to new heights. So far, we as an EBF Board have always tried to strive to work as hard as we can and be as organised as possible. However, unexpected things are always happening and to be honest, I think ‘organised chaos’ perfectly sums up a board year at the EBF. It’s fun, exciting and chaotic! For example, the start of the academic year was an exciting but chaotic time for us. We were hyped to finally get started and meet all of you. We had some wonderful experiences with our first events like the Beginning Of The Year Party, the Introduction Camp and the EBF Conference! Additionally, we had the honour to begin the selection of our committees and we were very happy to welcome all of you to the EBFamily! The EBF is a place where we always felt at home and where we made some beautiful memories. We hope you did as well!
So, buckle up and get ready to dive into the beautifully messy world of the EBF in book form! Flip through these pages, laugh at the chaos, and maybe even get inspired to embrace a bit of chaos in your own life. Cheers to the organized chaos that keeps us on our toes and makes every day an adventure!
On behalf of the EBF Board 2023 - 2024,
Niek Schulte ChairmanPelle, our chatty bouncing ball with his endless enthusiasm and infectious smile. Yet, he has a vice; not always listening to his chair! Despite his social nature, Pelle didn’t recall the evening his successor was announced, because he was lost in a random house (no joke) . His pet peeve? The sounds of people chewing. Do not do this near him, or he might hit you! Nevertheless, he managed TEDx, IPD, and the EBF conference, proving that beneath his vices lies competence and dedication.
Thijs, the man who often finds himself overshadowed by his younger brother, who has an even tighter EBF event-packed schedule. But it’s not just his brother—Thijs comes from a family deeply rooted in the EBF. His dad was a board member of EFV, the association that predessed the EBF. Furthermore, Thijs really used to enjoy his beer, but he’s taking a break from it at the moment. Life has changed for Thijs; he has traded party vibes for papa vibes. The man committed committee incest, by becoming quite romantic with one of his past committee members of the economic event committee
Wieke’s the one on our board that is known for always puking when hungover (just three beers can leave her wasted). When this happens, she will wear her hangover hat that looks like a medieval helmet. If you are curious to see what it looks like, just hoop by the EBF board room the day after an EBF social, Wieke will be wearing the helmet! As penny, Wieke always says she’s busy but somehow she ends up napping on our couch in our board room a lot (even when she is not hungover). In addition, she once was a background dancer for Ralph Mackenbach, a big deal! If this got you interested in how Wieke looks on tv, check out her YouTube channel: Wieke van Heteren
Jara is quite the character. You’d never guess by her appearance, but she’s got a wild side. Rumor has it she once had sex in the EBF promotion room with her partner. Well, she officially does not have a partner, though she won’t go kiss any other guys either. Speaking of partners, did you know Jara hates all the companies that are partners of the EBF? In addition, she would be a perfect love island participant. If you haven’t been convinced yet, just try to look for her in the city on a night out to see her signature dance move. You will instantly be convinced!
Say hello to Luuk, the office’s wild card. He’s always bragging about making loads of money, saying he’ll get more than a hundred grand (een ton) for the EBF. You can’t miss him because he’s always shouting “VO!!” or “CBC!!” out of the blue, which drives everyone nuts. Aside from annoying people, Luuk also has some impressive harmonica skills, ready to play any song you ask for. Curious? Just come by the EBF board room and ask him to play any song you like! Despite his harmonica skills, Luuk’s love life is complicated. For most of his board year it has been more talk than action. Rumor has it he is cursed ever since he got a tattoo of Hermione from Harry Potter tattooed on his d*ck last summer.
Let me introduce you to Hans, a person with a bit of a reputation at the EBF. He’s known for smoking way too much, which has significantly reduced his brain power. You’ll usually find him in the boardroom hangover, probably because he’s always out and about with the active members, if you know what I mean. Hans isn’t exactly the friendliest to everyone, unless you are single of course. To top it off, despite that he hasn’t lived with his parents for years, his mom still cleans his room here in Groningen. In addition, Hans practically wrote the book on the art of begin late, always having an excuse. But hey, despite his flaws, he’s the undisputed king of inclusion, thanks to his efforts for making connections with all the active members.
Let me tell you about Tim, he is quite the charmer with his smooth moves. Ever since he became the career officer, he’s had a crush on someone in the recruitment days board, a board he is supposed to guide! In addition, he’s a pro at doing different accents—German, Spanish, you name it! Oddly enough, nobody really knows what his job as a career officer involves. But hey, that adds to his mysterious charming character, right? Tim’s also a sporty guy who’s not shy about showing some of it to the world, quite regularly you will see him shirtless on random occasions.
Dear members of the Economics and Business Faculty association,
People often assume that they live in the most extraordinary part of history, that the world is moving faster than ever, opportunities have never been greater, and threats have never been more daunting. This insight should humble us somewhat, and yet, I cannot deny that for me it feels like we are indeed living in extraordinary times.
A transitional phase, in which we have to learn to live with artificial intelligence, save our planet, and rethink how we share wealth and resources in an increasingly interconnected world. It seems that after every disruptive event, the resilience of our society is tested, and it never really seems to return to the equilibrium that existed before the event.
Daunting tasks indeed, and I regularly meet young people who are overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of what lies ahead. I cannot blame them, but if you feel that way, I hope I can shift your perspective somewhat. Young generations often want to change the world. All of it. In an instant. But my experience is that to change everything, everyone, today, is really hard. Instead, what I can do, is that I can make a difference in what comes my way. The question is: what do I do with that?
I hope you will be able to answer that question in time. Because we need young, ambitious and bright students like you to stand up, and address the societal issues we are facing. People who know where we came from, who understand that what happened in the past shapes our world today. People who have a strong moral compass, and know right and wrong when they are confronted with it.
From that starting point, societal change will come. A couple of years ago, sociologist Damon Centola published a study on how societal change happens. To summarize the book: it is more complicated than we are inclined to think. And yet, the tipping point for change is perhaps lower than you might expect. The size of a minority committed to social change needs to be one-quarter of the group to establish a new norm. So even though shifting people’s beliefs is difficult, committed minorities can change cultural norms and traditions.
I believe this a promising and feasible perspective for a generation that is trying to establish a safer, more inclusive and sustainable future, like you. I wish you good luck with shaping our future!

The thought-provoking theme of this yearbook is ‘organised chaos’. It is a fine example of an oxymoron, as a connection of two opposite concepts. It immediately makes you wonder. Does one preclude the other? Can you organise chaos? Can you still speak of chaos when something is organised? But if you think about it, you realise that chaos can indeed be organised.
It does, however, presuppose that you define the concept further. Above all, it is important not to think of chaos as total disorder, i.e. as ‘unorganized chaos’. If you keep it under control, it can work out for the better and does not have to be scary either. You then avoid the negative effects of chaos and seek the potentially positive ones, such as the absence of strangling constraints and entrapments. After all, there is much more growth and action in a jungle than on a tightly maintained, mowed and raked lawn.
When considered this way, chaos can create room for creativity, inventiveness, and originality. The fact that chaos is not total, but moderate in terms of intensity and duration, remains an essential condition. Developments such as disruptive innovation and disruptive technologies might be good examples. Here, it is not about creating permanent chaos, but merely a temporary disruption; just enough to effectuate the desired breakthroughs and generate progress.
I see this as a metaphor for our University, where the primary need is to organise a safe place where talented and ambitious students and staff are given and experience the freedom to study, conduct research, and develop to their full potential. That presupposes a ‘pleasant’ degree of chaos. Dosing it is a delicate process, also in administrative terms. When there is too little, an overly rigid straitjacket is the result. When there is too much, ‘chaotic organisation’ is what we get. And in both cases, a university cannot be a true university. As an academic community, we must continue to strive for the right balance.
I wish you the best of luck in organising the right degree of chaos to achieve your ambitions. In the process towards it, a lot of fun and enthusiasm will probably come your way too.
Prof. Jacquelien Scherpen Rector Magnificus of the Universityof Groningen
Dear EBF members,
We are happy to welcome you to the EBF Yearbook of 2023-2024! A lot has happened the past year and we have captured all of these memories in this book. Our members come together not only to pursue academic excellence, but also to make lasting connections and lots of fun. Throughout the year, EBF has created a ton of socials and activities, where more than 5000 members were able to create shared experiences. But besides the social aspect, EBF also proudly organised business events like the EBF Conference and the Recruitment Days, offering opportunities for professional development, networking and industry insights. All of these happenings require lots of organisation, which we are trying to create during our sometimes chaotic student lives. That’s why the theme of this yearbook is called ‘organised chaos’. This theme reflects on both our student lives as well as the kind of chaotic situation in the world right now. On the following pages, you can read all about EBF’s Sub-associations, the many events and of course our active members. Enjoy!
Kind regards,
EBF Yearbook Committee 2023-2024
Now we’ve introduced the theme, we’d also like to introduce ourselves. We have worked all year to collect all of the memories the active members created and capture them in this book. We can’t wait for you guys to see and read everything, but first we’re telling you a bit more about the yearbook committee.
Sophie is a 20-year old student International Business at the RUG. She is originally from Driebergen and has been living and studying in Groningen since 2023. She loves a nice beer or two with a few friends, enjoying the great student life Groningen has to offer. Sophie is very excited that she’s been given the opportunity to serve as our chairwomen and sustainability officer. A role that fits her perfectly as she likes to be organised and to motivate and support the team to make the best of our time as your Yearbook Committee.
Stella is a 19 year old student from Cyprus who just started studying International Business. She is super excited to have worked along the rest of the girls this year and develop an ICONIC yearbook! Stella is one of the two designers who created what you are looking at right now!
Anastasia is a 19 year old student from Romania and she just started her first year in International Business at the RUG. She is enjoying the student life, maybe with a drink or two and she enjoys the time spent with the amazing girls from her committee. She is the other designer (she can't believe it either) who created what you are looking at right now!
Isan is 18 years old and studies Bedrijfskunde at the RUG. She is from the Achterhoek and has been living in Groningen for a year now. She likes to drink beers and go out in the city of Groningen. In our committee, Isan is fullfilling the function of a writer.
Gwen is a 20 year old 2nd year International Business student from Winschoten. She loves spending time with friends while ofcourse enjoying the occasional beer. Gwen is the first secretary, she is a responsible and organised girl making her the prefect secretary. She is very excited about being an active member this year and making the yearbook.
I could write a boring text about what it meant for us to be in the yearbook. I could use words such as ‘amazing’ and ‘wonderful experience’, or about how we ‘cannot imagine our first year in Groningen without being in his committee and without having met these wonderful people and each other’. So I won’t. What I will write is that it was a year filled with unexpected but memorable moments. Sitting in blokes on a Monday evening drinking beers that were way too much for us but Gwen insisted that it was just the right amount and always finishing her sentences with ‘slay’. Isan telling stories about guys whose names are not worth mentioning and us enjoying every bit of her stories and looking forward to next week to find out what happened next. Sia giving advice and showing up with the most flawless make-up looks I have ever seen. Sophie always sharing something new that happens in her life and telling it like it is a world problem in the most dramatic way. And Stella looking at us like we are crazy but secretly enjoying the whole scene and in the end surprising the rest with her amazing camera and photography skills.
We are only the second yearbook committee of the EBF and spent the last year creating the yearbook we hope will be a lookbook into the past year, where not only our memorable moments are presented but also those from other committees. This meant we had to know what was happening with other committees. Looking from a distance we observed, and with a beer in our hands we laughed about all the funny moments we saw. People might say ‘you guys were never at any of the events’ or ‘I never saw you guys’. But we were in fact, there you just didn’t see us. But inspite of this, we have had the most fun as EBF’s, yearbook committee 2023/24. And whether it is a zipper from pants that broke at a social or falling off the stairs after a night out, we were and will be there for each other.
We are the active member’s committee who ensures that all committee members have the most fun during their committee year at EBF! We organise plenty of activities to get to know your fellow active members, such as the Sint poem battle and drinks, the Christmas dinner, running dinner and, of course, the active members weekend and day!
With Annick as the chairwoman, you might think she is the most responsible of us all, however, the opposite is true. Every evening she states that she will not be this drunk this time, but eventually the drinks are still going very hard and she most likely will not remember anything from the night before… Then our treasurer Geerte, who is the most talkative.. Try to challenge her by giving a summary of an event, this will be very difficult for her.. It might seem like chaos with Geerte's busy weekly schedule, but she always manages to complete her tasks. We are still wondering if her days consist of more hours than ours.. Then we have our beautiful Lauren who makes the most beautiful promotion for our events.. Luckily she arranges to make the promotion on time, since at our weekly committee evenings she is always too late (for at least half an hour). With her strict planning and tight schedule, she is quite the organised chaos herself. Our logistic heroes are Oskar and Tiebe, where Oskar is very glad that he made a promotion from logistics II to logistics I this year. With a passion (almost obsession) for hardstyle, Oskar might seem a casanova, however as the saying goes “grote bek, klein hartje”. Our committee wouldn’t be this much fun when Oskar wasn’t in it, since he makes the most funny quotes every evening. Last but not least we have our second Twentenaar Tiebe, who is the most picky eater of all of us. Tomatoes, aubergines, olives, mais, he definitely does not find those very nice ;). Tiebe lives more day-to-day and is the party animal himself, maybe that’s why study sometimes comes at the second (or maybe third) place.
This year, the activity committee is filled by five greats; Joost, Rianne, Merle, Roosmarijn and Elise. Four girls and one boy, a unique combination. You would think that such a combination could not become anything, but despite all the girl talk, every night was amazing. During the committee applications we pretended to be miracles in the world of finances, making promo, arranging venues and making contacts, but despite the month of preparation time, in the end everything for the socials had to be arranged a bit last-minute.
For the parties in MAAS, we had to come up with the theme, decorate the venue, do the promo, come up with outfits and receive everyone at the door. Also, every Monday we ate together and went into town, we also had a Christmas dinner and festival together and of course the transition dinner where we had to drink like the opposite gender. Still, there were occasional setbacks. For example, our chairman Joost was thrown out of our first social together with our supervisor Hans, and permits for our own festival are more difficult to arrange than we thought.
Nevertheless, we organized a fantastic social every month in MAAS and a great EBF festival!
Last December, we had the pleasure of organising the yearly EBF Christmas Ball for which we had chosen the theme “Royal Ball”! We think it was a very pleasant night! Our chairman, Stijn, was very good at organising the little things that are easily fogotten and made sure our committee was present at most of the EBF events. He even made sure we supported Palace and Huize Maas by drinking enough. To save some money, Stijn was able to pick up some free beers at Pien’s job. However, he forgot to close the strap of his helmet and got fined.
Evelina, our PR representative, was the only international member in our committee. This resulted in a very nice committee weekend in Bucharest. Evelina was a very good tour guide; she showed us nice local restaurants, nice clubs, and got us all very drunk! Nice job!
Josefine, our commercial relations representative, was responsible for the acquisition. Even though she was the youngest in our committee, she managed to sign a few nice companies. However, she couldn’t have done it without the help of Pien, since Josefine was too afraid to visit the companies alone! You can’t blame her, as she didn’t know the routes in Groningen during the first few months she was in our committee.
Our treasurer, Pien, did an amazing job keeping track of the costs and helping Josefine with the acquisition! However, she couldn’t handle her liquor too well, which was already evident at the EBF Active Members Weekend.
Thimo, responsible for logistics, did an amazing job by arranging more artists than ever! However, most of them canceled the week before the Gala… Nonetheless, we were very happy to have this Casanova in our committee! Especially since the first logistics person left our committee after the introduction dinner!
As a committee, we worked very hard the whole year! Sadly, we are not able to have a transition dinner, since no new committee was selected for the upcoming Christmas Ball…
Ah, the infamous commercial committee. What comes to mind when you hear that term? Perhaps you expect a bunch of professional types, dressed in fancy suits and spouting loads of fancy words. Well, I can tell you one thing, that expectation is completely off the mark! Let me introduce you to this colorful bunch:
Casper, also known as "bad girl" aka baddie (although he absolutely does not find it funny, so feel free to use it often). Bram, a massive football fan, which he sometimes thinks is just a tad more important than our committee. Daan, who thought it was a good idea to buy a non-working bike from a homeless person after a night out with the committee, not a great plan of course. Lars, better known as the ‘spuitkotser’. Yes, he has honestly earned that name. Lisa, who has never joined the committee for a night out in the city, much to the disappointment of the rest. And as Lars once quoted me, 'The president with the P of intelligence.' Yet, it's the commercial committee that has won the costume competition at AMW twice in a row! Huge thanks to our voluntary guests who proudly wore dresses without hesitation. Let's be honest, they looked fantastic! This committee is always ready to support each other, especially Lisa and Daan during the first AMW, so shoutout to you for that.
Where the food sometimes falls short, we're not exactly culinary experts in what goes in. Our inspiration for Monday night dinners doesn't really go beyond the standard pasta pesto. Except for that one time when one of the guys decided to cook a different pasta and just decided not to include the vegetables (much to Lies' annoyance). Despite all of this, I am incredibly happy with the committee that we formed together. And I've had an incredibly fun time with you all during Monday evenings, the EBF parties, and the meetings not to forget. Hopefully, we'll manage to plan a lovely weekend away together after the summer and end this fantastic committee year with a bang of a fundraiser in September. But that will surely work out just fine.
So commercial committee 23 24, you are genuinely awesome and thank you for such a wonderful EBF year with you!
And as Lisa would say, you are real gems.
Hello hello, we are the 15th EBF Conference board. Our conference took place on the 5th and 6th of October 2023 with the theme “The Art of Adapting: Achieving Success in a World of Disruption.” If you did not know, we are the largest 2-day student conference in the Netherlands. The first day, aka College Day (sounds boring, I know, but it is very interesting), has an academic character, whereas Conference Day has the character of a traditional conference. And this year, it was really a blast. Our Conference Day had more than 600 attendees, and even 7 CEOs as speakers, with highlights being Dolf van den Brink (CEO of Heineken) and Agnes Koops-Aukes (CEO of PwC). In addition to this, there were 13 companies attending, so if you are looking for a job, internship, or only want to orientate, you know where you need to be this year (3rd & 4th of October).
Enough about the conference, let us tell you something about us. Our board consists of 6 positions: Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, Commercial, Public Relations & Logistics.
As it usually starts with the Chairman, we are going to start at the “bottom,” or better to say, start with the positions that do most of the work.
Silke, our logistics, has a true conference heart, as she was part of the Day Organisation Committee in 2021 (also logistics). This, of course, resulted in this year’s conference going as smoothly as possible, and nothing went wrong - while in her personal life, she is very chaotic.
Azra, our PR pearl, made sure that everyone knew about the EBF conference and that the stage on the day itself looked amazing. Even though drinking and smoking was not allowed at the interim, you could see some smoke secretly coming from Azra’s vape in the corner of our office. Furthermore, after looking at all the EBF Logos for a whole year, she decided that it was time for a switch when she got into a relationship with an FSG board member.
Yi Qi (aka Jackie), our wonderful commercial relations manager, did an amazing job acquiring partners and making sure we had some good giveaways. He can chug a beer within a second, but he cannot handle alcohol that well - after a couple of drinks, his alter ego already comes out.
Daan, the money man, and also Commercial Relations 2. What to say about this man, where to start, actually. One thing is for sure, the toilets in Duisenberg were never safe; he has puked in each of them. So watch out next time you go to the toilet there.
Mick, our speaker magnet, did an amazing job this year with acquiring speakers. In his free time, he likes to hang out with his girlfriend Xandra, who is on the current conference board. Coincidence? We do not think so ;)
Annemijn, Grandma Annie, ensured that all the chaos was taken care of and made sure that everyone was enjoying their time. In the office, it was always too cold for her, and she had hundreds of layers on. Moreover, if it was raining, you would not be able to recognize her in her full-on rain jacket.
We had lots of fun during our board year, and actually have also learned a lot and made some really good friendships!!
At this moment of writing the EBF Conference has long past and as a committee we look back at an amazing experience. Together with the conference board we had the privilege to organise the college day and assist with the conference as much as we could.
We struggled, had fun, got drunk and the closer we got to the conference, the more we got together. We learned all about the breeding of horses and how you get the best ‘’Kibbeling’’ in Calantsoog. The weeks leading up to the event were intense but also the most fun. It was an amazing opportunity to get close to so many business leaders and experience from up close how they operate. It was of great joy to see how much our participants enjoyed the conference and to then close of the experience in the Martini Church.
Surrounded by friends, family and participants it was all we expected and more. Sitting back enjoying the day and seeing how everybody was chugging the alcohol-free champagne like it would get them somewhere was especially a highlight of the night. At the afterparty we all let go and some members had a little more fun than others. But not for long as the next morning it was time for clean up and back to reality. That is the rollercoaster the EBF Conference takes you on.
It is an amazing experience that we would not have wanted to miss. We hope the next committee enjoys it as much as we did and that you all may attend the next one!
Hello everyone! We are the Consultancy Tour committee and we organized a 2-day trip to the Zuidas. Thanks to the exquisite negotiation skills of our very own consultant Youri, we were able to secure some very interesting companies, namely Roland Berger, EY, Seederdeboer and Capgemini Invent. However, our tour would’ve been nothing without our president Dani. By deploying his strong leadership skills, he was able to lead the committee in the right direction where we would be rudderless in his absence.
The small man with the great mind, the wolf of wallstreet, el chapo, whatever you want to call him; he made the road to Amsterdam clear for us peasants. However, the real man of the money is of course our treasurer, Gijs. Not only was he our treasurer, he also had the most important role of our committee: the sustainability officer. The Consultancy Tour has never been as sustainable as this year’s edition. Lastly, we have Lieke, who did a great job in promoting the best EBF trip of the year and shooting some very nice pictures for us to look back at an amazing event!
Our year got off to a great start with the handover dinner where we went off the wagon dressed as Smurfs. We had all washed off our blue-coloured faces like normal people when we went out, except Charlotte, who only found out the next day through photos that she was still the only one with a blue face in Wolters. This was not really a smart move for a research coordinator.
Since everyone on our committee was quite busy, we did not have weekly committee evenings, but we made up for that triple at the socials, not to mention in Athens. At the socials, we definitely took advantage of the unlimited drinks, which resulted in some crazy nights for ESR Fall. Once we put our group together for the trip, we immediately knew it was going to be seven great Mondays and an amazing week in Athens, which didn’t disappoint. Jasmin and Linda were in Athens two days before the rest, which were expensive days, as the minute they set foot in the city, they caught a fine. Before the trip, our losers of the Crazy 88 got to know their punishment. They had to wear crazy shirts for a night and do a talent show on the big square, with our treasurer Jelien putting on the best performance of all. Despite our external and travel coordinator doing an amazing job finding very interesting companies, there were still some people having a hard time staying awake. Chelsea, our chair and night owl, however, was able to stay awake 24/7, as she thought it would be smart to work on school after going out. Overall, the committee had an amazing trip and year that we will never forget, which would not have happened without all the participants.
ESR Spring Vienna, we're quite the team, Guiding 25 students, living the dream, Through Vienna's streets, we'll make our way, Visiting beautiful companies and partying every day!
With Annelie, Tessa, Lyon, Marije, Philip, and Rens as the committee, Organizing this trip is a breeze. With every moment planned and every detail set,
ESR Spring Vienna is the committee you'll never forget.
So here's to the ESR Spring committe, the most fun by far,
In EBF Groningen, we're the shining star. With laughter and a lot of beer, we leave our mark set,
ESR Spring Vienna, a trip that no one will ever forget!
We are Anna, Dylan, Maarten, Manon, Sterre and Thirza and this year we formed the Freshman Committee. We are all in the first year of our bachelor within the FEB and are also new within EBF. We had an amazing first year within EBF and also with eachother. As the freshman committee we had to organise an event and a weekend to Antwerp. For our event we went laser gaming with a group consisting of only first years. We played multiple sets and afterwards we connected with everybody with some drinks. The highlight of our committee year was a weekend to Antwerp. We had some formal activities, which included a visit to Katoennatie and we visted a beerbrewery. We ended every day with a good look into Antwerps nightlife, where we made some amazing memories (not everybody remembers everything, but oh well).
Our committee evenings were a new adventure every week. We had countless of fun nights in Groningen, making our favorite bars and clubs unsafe. After a nightly visit to ‘de Hoek’ we tried to make sure everybody would make it home safe. All we can say is that we are young and really tried to remember where our houses are. The active member weekends, socials and other activities that we joined were the cherry on top for this year.
We also went on a committee trip to Prague together. After a few incidents on the highway (this includes but is not limited to standing still on the highway, driving with an open engine hood and getting in a speed fight with some guy) we made it to Prague safely and had a great weekend with lots of sightseeing, amazing food and the best clubs. We did not see a single Praquer in the clubs, but luckily all other dutchies knew where we were from just by one look.
In summary, we had an amazing year with eachother and with EBF! Eventhough the theme for this year is organised chaos, we would fit better in the unorganised, but definitely fun chaos.
The International Development Committee, where every day feels like building a spaceship while it's already in flight. As a pilot project, we embarked on this journey with nothing but our good faith and motivation.
Starting from scratch in May of last year, we've been through sweat, and dubious tears (luckily no blood, yet). we navigated our mission with a blend of ambition and the kind of enthusiastic naiveté that occasionally looked like we were true geniuses.
lise, our PR wizard, managed to put a positive spin on our chaos, transforming our frazzled updates into messages of groundbreaking progress. Tariq, the treasurer, not only kept our finances in check but also provided philosophical statements like, "If you hit a biker it's not that Dad, whICh, we assure vou, does not reflect our official stance on transportation safety.
Flora, our secretary and logistics expert, frequently lost her train of thought, exemplified by her classic "Ik ben het kwijt" at crucial moments. This became our unofficial motto, perfectly summanzing our frequent state or bewldered excitement.
Jamie, handling academics and logistics, brought a competitive spirit, never failing to remind us that she "never loses" whether she was referring to her competitiveness or her keys, we still do not know. Laurin, our external relations guru, brought home the levity in our discussions, famously noting, "I would rather have an SDG than schurft." This preference captured our commitment to global goals over personal discomforts.
This spirit carried us through to the Active Members Weekend, where our creativity and coordination shone brightly. We clinched victories in both the "Best Outfit" and "Route 66* competitions, proving that even the board couldn't overlook our flairthough they couldn't bring themselves to award us first place twice! Oh and by the way, we won the sint poem battle too.
In a bold move to combat the post-IDP Monday blues, we dreamt up Mimosa Tuesdays. The reality? Most of us were too hungover to partake, and we managed to uphold this new tradition exactly once. It turns out, chasing Monday's chaos with Tuesday mimosas is as tricky as it sounds, but it was worth the single, sparkling attempt.
Of course, every committee has its own language quirks. Jamie brought a slice or home with *Jij praat kak," reminding us that a chair is really not a necassity.
As we wrap up the year, we're not just a committee; we're a chaotic fellowship bound by the kind of shared experience that can only be described as uniquely ours. We've built something from the ground up, and while the journey was messy, it was ours, and it was magnificent. It was an immensely enriching and rewarding experience, and I am profoundly grateful to have been a dart of it - Stan
This year, the International Committee was the personification of “Organized Chaos.” From cultural events to managing our unique personalities, our journey was a mix of excitement, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
Aulia kicked things off officially by organizing the Pooling Event. His affinity for Drake vs. Kendrick memes aside, he even proved to be a pool pro. Who knew that pool was way harder than 8 Ball? Aulia’s previous practice paid off, and he schooled us all, making us realize we should probably stick to virtual games.
Dhruv, our laid-back Treasurer, was his usual chatty self during our events. True to form, he sometimes prioritized fun over finances, always ready with a smile and a promise (or five) that things would be fine. Spoiler alert: they usually were, but not always thanks to Dhruv!
Jianghao, with his endless jokes, tried to save money through a discount on Social Deal. It wasn’t a hit, but at least he tried and represented the Dutch spirit. His ideas were as hilarious as they were ambitious, adding another layer of humor to our already chaotic meetings.
Cornelius, our no-nonsense chairman, kept us on track—most of the time. For International Day, he had everyone arrive at 8:30 AM to set up the booths. Turns out, we could’ve slept in a bit longer, but it was still a success, showcasing diverse cultures and some seriously impressive booths (and food).
Hong-Bao, our reliable PR and External Relations officer, was the glue that held everything together. Without her, our organized chaos would have just been plain chaos.
Whether it was the laughs about stereotypical behavior or everyone showing up late to the meetings, we embraced the chaos and made it work. Our year was packed with laughter, learning, and some seriously memorable moments. Organized chaos? More like the best kind of chaos.
International Committee 23/24
Welcome to the wild world of the EBF Introduction Committee, where chaos meets coordination and every plan is one mishap away from becoming a legendary story. This year, we bravely organized a trip to the island of Borkum with 200 first-year students from the Faculty of Economics and Business. Spoiler alert: we didn’t lose a single one (well, not permanently).
Our fearless leader, Chairwoman Martina, kept us all in line (mostly) and ensured the show went on. Sarah, our Treasurer, worked her magic to stretch our budget, even if it meant a few ramen noodle dinners for the team. Ilona, the queen of logistics, somehow made sure everyone and everything got to Borkum, despite buses and ferries trying to rebel. Rosa, handling external relations, charmed her way through every obstacle, while Kiki, our PR guru, made sure every picture taken was on point. Last but not least, Lisa, our Secretary, documented every moment of our descent into madness with a smile. Last but not least, we have to mention our favorite board member (apologies to the rest) Hans, who was so stressed would smoke a pack a day, can you blame him though?
This trip was nothing short of the most stressful yet exhilarating weekend of our lives. Picture this: confiscating booze from the stealthiest of freshmen, chasing rogue students on moonlit beach escapades that ended with a few cut feet (hey, it builds character), and rounding up drunken kids from the city streets. Despite the chaos, every single one of those 200 students returned to Groningen safe and sound. More or less.
The camp's theme—"work hard, play harder"—was embraced in true EBF spirit. Our key activities? Parties, parties, and more parties! We witnessed some truly inspired costumes, from Tik Tak Ton to Tinder Twan and even Mark the Monk. The creativity and commitment were both impressive and mildly concerning.
No intro camp would be complete without "The Borkum Times," our very own tabloid filled with all the juicy gossip and scandalous tea from the previous night's shenanigans.
In the end, we managed to pull off a successful introduction camp. Despite the hiccups, we celebrated hard work with even harder play, ensuring that the spirit of EBF was well and truly introduced. Here’s to another year of unforgettable memories and hoping next year's committee has as much fun—and fewer heart attacks—as we did.
Ah, the Leadership & Entrepreneurship Committee—where the plan is that there is no plan, and somehow, it all works out in the end.
This year, from a high-spirited Christmas party to impromptu board meetings, we’ve truly lived our theme of "Organised Chaos".
Jelmer, our committee's life and soul since day one, never fails to entertain, even when his legs aren't up for the task. His tales and time-keeping may need some work, but his spirit is unmatched—just don’t forget those punishment beers, Jelmer! Mimic games with him?
An absolute riot, especially when the jokes are (lovingly) at his expense.
Then there’s Estelle, our culinary queen and marketing master. She might only have Mondays for us, but she makes every second count with her creativity and kindness, always ready with a light joke poke at Jelmer.
Caroline, our own Chair extraordinaire, runs our ship with the finesse of a seasoned captain. Her organizational skills are through the roof, and her game nights? Legendary. Like Jelmer, she's on the 'time management improvement' track—but hey, who’s counting?
Enter David, the oldest in our crew, bringing German precision to every endeavor. His reliability and bright smile lighst up our toughest days, making him the big brother we never knew we needed. Truly, this committee wouldn’t be the same without his steady presence and guidance.
From hilarious game nights at Caroline’s to crafting plans over drinks, we’ve laughed, we’ve struggled, but most importantly, we’ve made things happen. Our mix of Dutch, German, and French flair has seen us through a year of chaos, creativity, and friendship.
Here's to all the memories, the struggles, and everything in between… Cheers to mastering the art of making it work—no matter what!
If you see me, do you see a fruit?
The Fruity Change Management Community: A Delicious Bunch!
If you see us around, you might think we resemble a vibrant fruit salad! Here's a taste of our personalities:
Annabel (PR) - Starfruit/Apricot: Annabel shines as brightly as a starfruit, sweetness and charm that envelop those around her in warmth. With her welcoming and shining personality she's always ready to greet others with open arms. She is also the apricot, possessing beauty and smoothness that captivates all who encounter her. Like the apricot, she is universally adored and her presence is a source of delight.
Monika (Logistics) - Cherry/Strawberry: At first glance, one might underestimate her, mistaking her petite stature for fragility. However, to do so would be to overlook the fiery spirit that lies within, reminiscent of the hidden pit within a cherry. beneath this spirited exterior lies a heart as sweet and playful as a ripe strawberry. Monika's charm and infectious energy infuses every interaction with joy and laughter.
Sarah (treasure) - Persimmon: An exotic choice, just like Sarah! She brings a touch of the unexpected to the group, much like a persimmon's unique flavor. Just keep it away from Monika's dog – it's apparently their favorite! Buckle up, because Sara's different! Exciting like the orange skin of the fruit. She can be tough but the longer you are with her, the softer she gets.
Yara (chair) - Mangosteen: Yara is the perfect mix of order and surprising uniqueness, just like the mangosteen. She's already captivating at first glance, and by peeling back the layer, you'll find a personality that's as warm and delightful as the fruit itself. Whether she's coming up with new drinking games or dropping Macklemore rhymes, she's always full of great surprises!
Jordan (secretary) - Kiwi/Dragonfruit: Jordan is like a juicy and fuzzy kiwi with the ambition of a dragon fruit. He's easy to talk to, always good for a laugh, and full of exciting, ambitious goals that'll keep you inspired and entertained. Chat with him, and you'll never know what exciting new endeavor he'll be cooking up next!
Together, we're a diverse and complementary bunch, just like a delicious fruit salad!
Hi everyone! We are Ali, Caro, Sofia, and Ines from the Marketing Committee. We would love to take this chance to share some of our EBF Highlights. Our committee truly came into its own when Ines and Sofia joined us in October despite some questionable first impressions that come with the day after an EBF Social. One of our earliest highlights was the promo stunt in September, where we engaged people with fun games and handed out prizes. Of course, we loved going to the EBF monthly socials together, where memorable (and some not so memorable) experiences took place—like teaching Ines to chug a beer and icing our fellow members. One of our favorite committee nights was when we celebrated “Friendsgiving” together, making Oreo brownies and drinking wine. Our active member’s trip to Bakkeveen was super fun: we petted cows, and Sofia impressed everyone with her rapping skills to Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” Although the bus ride home was a bit rough for one of us (getting sick in a bag), it was a defining moment of our newfound friendship. Another major event was the Christmas Dinner & Ball, where seeing lots of people wearing the bow ties we designed was something to feel proud of. Throughout the year, we loved our weekly meetings with Jara (even if 9 times out of 10 Caro and Ali were hungover and we chit-chatted more than doing actual work!). After exams in January, we shared a final brunch with Sofia before she returned to Sweden and returned her Swapfiets. This was the closing chapter of the Marketing Committee as Caro had already gone on exchange and Ines was moving to Utrecht :( . Being part of an EBF Committee has been such a fun experience, and we’d recommend it to everyone! We are all super grateful for the memories we made together and the lifelong friendships we made during this time!
We Lisa, Dominik, Marije, Eva and Matthijs are the Master Community for Economic Development & Globalization (ED&G).
We gave ourselves a busy year as a committee by organizing many social events, like a pub quiz, bowling and pool, but also career events such as our alumni event and a company visit to The Hague. Besides all the serious organizing we also had room for chaos as a committee by going to EBF events and during our own team bonding activities. Because chaos is what ensues when you follow Lisa’s advice that: “drinking is not a punishment it is a prize”. But all of this made us a great team during the year as we were able to leave the escape room at Escape Hunt with many minutes left! Speaking of which let me introduce you to this amazing team:
Dominik is our lovely treasurer, and maybe the definition of organised chaos. He is an expert in popculture and probably knows more about memes than his studies. But as chaotic as he might be, Dominik is the funniest person and the best host you will ever meet!
Lisa, a fellow international, always smiles with her eyes closed in pictures, and partner in crime and study. Probably the most organised and dedicated of the group. She tells the craziest stories from back in Sweden and is the entertainer of the group and always down to go out. Naturally, she's our social events officer and we are all super happy she still joined our committee!
Marije is our amazing and famous Commercial Relations. You should ask her about her plans to move the Randstad ;). Marije was the driving force behind our trip to The Hague as she organised interesting visits to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and VNO-NCW. Marije’s place was also the spot where we most often had our weekly meetings, until she kicked us out again so she could go to bed…
Matthijs is our wonderful and organised chairman. Not a Sunday goes by without receiving our meeting agenda for the week. He is always up for a party, especially if they have cava and some straws for a classic rietadt. But he never gets hungover, due to his special technique: always eating 2 snacks at the Hoek!
Eva is our wonderful PR, or the annoying message sender, depends on how you see it. It is her first year in Groningen, but she has been to Dorst (too?) much already. Always up for a chat and with her caring personality a great addition to our committee.
Hi, we are the Master Community: Health! We are the committee that organises activities that are interesting and fun for the people following the Master's in Health. Our committee consists of four members: Michelle, Isa, Jeroen, and Bob.
Our committee aims to connect students and to link companies with our Health master's students. We do this by organising various activities that are both educational and relaxing. Think of drinks, lectures, networking events, and much more. Through these activities, we want not only to strengthen the bonds between students but also to provide a platform where knowledge and experiences can be shared.
An interesting aspect of our committee is our committee drink: Luft. Don’t ask us why, but unfortunately, it was once decided that this would be our committee drink and it has unfortunately stuck. If you ever happen to end up at 'Het Gat van Groningen' while out, try a shot of our committee drink for fun. It will certainly be memorable!
A highlight of our year is our committee weekend, where we strengthened our bonds by enjoying joint activities and lots of drinks. But besides the committee weekend, we have also done other fun things this year. From visiting ADE to wielding magic wands. From quarreling over Settlers of Catan to unlimited drinking at the beautiful EBF Parties. Always fun times.
Despite all this fun, we apparently couldn’t manage to get a nice committee photo. So enjoy our very beautiful but also very drunk photo taken during an EBF Party!
Greetings from the Master Community Health.
Reflecting on the past six months of the academic year, our IB&M committee has much to look back to: One of the highlights was our company visit to Versuni in Amsterdam in February. This trip gave fellow IB&M students the opportunity to get to know and engage directly with the company and its people, solve interesting case studies, and gain insights into the business world. It was for sure a great experience for all of us involved! Not only did it widen our (professional) horizons but students could also network with inspiring leaders.
Besides, we also organised a social event, a relaxed gathering at ‘’Het Concerthuis’’. With drinks in our hands and snacks to share, we enjoyed a nice evening with our fellow students with laughter, good conversations, and a great amount of ‘gezelligheid’ :)
This spring period is particularly exciting because all of our members are about to graduate from university. Currently we are all working on our thesis, however we still find moments to gather for dinner, share stories, and enjoy this journey together.
As we look back, we are filled with gratitude for all the experiences we shared and friendships we’ve made. To all those also graduating this year, we wish you the very best in your future endeavors! Here’s to the memories we’ve made and friendships that will last! :)
We are a new, enthusiastic team of four—Máté, Christel, Anna, Olly—dedicated to serving and organising events for our fellow students in the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Master Program. Our mission is to create a dynamic and supportive community that fosters innovation, collaboration, and professional growth.
Our goals include creating a welcoming environment through formal and informal events that encourage connections and mutual support, promoting idea sharing and joint projects to spur entrepreneurial ventures. Our workshop with the Change Management team was a great success.
Our team brings a diverse set of skills: Christel is our treasurer and secretary ready to keep things organised and punctual (yes, she is the only Dutch person in the group). Anna is our PR girl bringing the creative spark to the team! Olly is our logistic personal, eager to build strong connections in fabulous locations! And last but not least our chair manager: Máté! He never gave up even when he was alone in the committee, he recruited this group and brings a great atmosphere.
To end the 2023/2024 school year on a high note, we are organising a Flunky ball tournament, providing a fun and engaging way for students to connect and celebrate our achievements together.
We are excited to continue our work and our mission: build a community where everyone can thrive.
Dear Active Members,
Hey everyone! We are the Promotion Committee, and boy, did we have a blast this year! From capturing all your best (and sometimes worst) moments at the committee pictures and socials, we've seen it all. Seriously, you should thank us for deleting all the bad shots – we’ve got your backs!
Usually, we prefer staying behind the camera, but throw a little alcohol into the mix, and we couldn't resist jumping in front. Our mission was to capture the essence of our events, even if it sometimes meant showcasing our own less-than-glamorous sides.
One of our favorite memories has to be the endless photoshoots. We aimed to present the best image of our association, but let's be real – we often ended up highlighting our quirkiest, most unfiltered selves. Tripping over cables, surprise photobombs, and just plain goofing around turned our photoshoots into unexpected comedy shows. But hey, that's what made them so authentic and fun!
The transition dinner was another epic night. It was filled with laughter, great food, and a few unforgettable (and slightly embarrassing) moments. After a few rounds of drinks, we really got into the spirit of the evening with some spontaneous "atjes" (drinking rounds). The camaraderie and joy of that night perfectly summed up what it means to be part of this committee – full of life, laughter, and just a hint of chaos.
And who could forget the mid-year party? It was a roaring success, with everyone dancing and celebrating late into the night. Unfortunately, not all of our committee members made it through unscathed. A few brave souls partied a bit too hard, leading to some hilarious (and slightly regrettable) stories the next morning. But, in true Promotion Committee fashion, we laughed it off and took it all in stride.
Through all the ups and downs, we've shown that we can turn any situation into a fun and memorable experience. We embraced the chaos, organised our efforts, and created lasting memories. Here's to another year of organised chaos and the incredible bond we share in the Promotion Committee!
Lots of love and laughter, The Promotion Committee
Last December, the Recruitment Days event was hosted at the Van der Valk Hotel, and what a spectacle it was! Organized by the 30th board, this extraordinary event turned the second week of December into a whirlwind of networking opportunities and career exploration. Let's meet the board behind the 30th Recruitment Days edition!
First off, we have Robin Zeelenberg, our tireless Chairman. Robin ensured everything ran smoothly, overseeing every detail with dedication. She was the captain steering our ship through the turbulent waters of the job market, ensuring the EBF Recruitment Days were a resounding success.
Then there is Max van Bueren, our Commercial Relations expert. Max had a knack for finding companies that could make your wildest career dreams come true. If there was a company offering your dream job, Max had found them.
Our treasurer and Commercial III, Maarten Arts, had a keen eye for numbers and opportunities. He didn't just balance the books; he also kept a lookout for companies offering the golden ticket to internships and jobs. Using his creative budgeting skills, Maarten ensured we were always in the green.
Meike Lageveen, responsible for day organization and Commercial II, was the queen of planning. She ensured the Recruitment Days ran smoothly, like a welloiled machine, by meticulously coordinating every detail. Meike's dedication and efficiency created a seamless experience for everyone involved, making the Recruitment Days the highlight of the year.
Justin Tuïnk, our secretary and logistics expert, kept everyone on track. Thanks to him, attendees knew exactly where to be and when, ensuring no crucial presentations, cases, or dinners were missed. He handled logistics as if playing a 3D chess game, always thinking three steps ahead.
And let's not forget Senna van der Goot, our PR expert. Thanks to Senna, everyone within and outside the university knew the EBF Recruitment Days were the event of the year. She created the buzz and made the event unforgettable.
Recruitment Days will once again take place in December this year, and on behalf of the 31st board, we're excited to extend a warm welcome to all of you!
EBF’s Social Responsibility Committee (SRC) is dedicated to promoting social accountability within the Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Groningen. Our mission is to inspire students to think about social responsibility, sustainability and drive positive change through various impactful initiatives. Throughout the year, the SRC organises a variety of different events.
One of the highlights is the annual EBF Fundraiser, held in collaboration with the Commercial Committee. Last year, this event successfully raised over €2500 for the Johan Cruyff Foundation, demonstrating the collective power of students working towards a noble cause while enjoying a fun night filled with a lottery for fantastic prizes. In addition, we hosted creative and community-oriented events such as the Mug Painting evening, which offers students a relaxing and artistic break from their studies and the Green Week, filled with challenges and activities designed to raise sustainability awareness among students. Through various challenges and events, students are encouraged to adopt eco-friendly practices and become more conscious of their environmental impact. Furthermore, there is always the opportunity to partner with local organisations to support vulnerable groups, such as organising events for homeless shelters and the elderly. These events provide students with the opportunity to engage directly with community needs, fostering empathy and social awareness.
Our multicultural team, consisting of members from four different nationalities, not only worked together on meaningful projects but also enjoyed fun team events and formed lasting friendships. The SRC is a perfect platform for students passionate about social responsibility and sustainability to take initiative and make a difference.
We (the Sports Committee) organised the annual ski trip for EBF. The skitrip was amazing with lots a fun stories. Especially for you, we highlighted some of the best from our committee.
Both Rick and Puck needing a bit of assistance from the board to make it back to the apartment after the après-ski. Rick was even gifted a beautiful new blanket, the gold-silver one. Despite the minor setbacks, their resilience and team spirit shone through, and they were still partying hard every day after that. Adding to the adventure, Loes took a detour after the après-ski and ended up spending two hours and catching three buses before finally finding her way back to the right village. Fleur, despite a troublesome knee, refused to let it hold her back, showing true grit on the slopes. And then there's Rodi, who, after just one ski lesson, boldly believed he was a pro and happily tagged along with our group.
As a closing note on the Sports Committee, everyone participated in the tradition of chugging an entire bottle of rosé during the ski trip. (Except for Rick, who dared only half.)
Hey guys, we are Marissa, Brian, Rielle, Kamiel, Kiki and Peter and we are proud to say that we are the TEDx 24!
You can recognise us by always screaming VO, drinking Bozu, or just being a really slay committee in general. You also might have heard of our beautiful cheer, that goes like “Voel me flex, ben op stacks, hou van seks, wij zijn TEDx!” Yeah nothing to add to that actually, period.
Last April, TEDx took place and it was such a success. The whole process went great due to our amazing team! However, not everything went as great as it may have seemed, because just an hour before the event our moderator could not make it anymore! So, we had to find a replacement pretty damn quick. But hey, it did work out in the end, so I would say that was some Organised Chaos indeed.
Now let’s move on to the tea. Because we, as one of the biggest committees, sure have a lot to spill.
Let’s begin with Kamiel, who now replaced us for Recruitment Days, because he wanted to get invited to constis, anti vo gast. Also, he really does not have a ruggengraat. One time he cancelled our meeting because he was “too sick” but the same night he ended up in ‘t Vaatje drinking his sickness away. During the last active members weekend, he with Marissa and Twan (from promo) also stole the EBF flag, which has become a TEDx tradition!
And then Kiki, where to start? I remember we made a tiktok during the EBF gala and it ended up with her walking on her bare feet on the Vismarkt… Pretty grimmig…Great TikTok though!
And then we have RiRi (Rielle) who is already doing her master and on top of that works a lot at the Blue Cathedral, so she practically is a burger already. Brian is our treasurer, oh well “treasurer” because more than half of our sponsors came from connections from our speakers. Also, he has a girlfriend all the way in Korea that he met on exchange, how cute!
Then Peter, our own Hungarian pearl. He is often late to our meetings, but he makes it up by always bringing food from the market, big slay! Also, during our transition dinner he almost drank a whole bottle of vodka??’ And he didn’t throw up? So blessed!
And lastly, our Chairwoman Marissa. Somehow, when Thijs (EBF board) is present at the socials, Marissa suddenly disappears and won’t be seen again for the rest of the evening…
We all had a blast by doing this committee and we can’t wait for the next edition and the new committee as, we already made plans for the transition evening:)
Cheers!

The value of organized chaos from a MARUG perspective
Within the faculty of economics and business, the MARUG excels in the marketing section. Picture a combination of creativity, strategy, trends and deadlines and you find yourself looking at the ongoing challenge in the world of marketing. At the heart of every successful team you find passionate individuals striving for the best results and goals. However, within this dynamic you find a certain extent of organized chaos. Look for example at a typical brainstorm meeting taking place on the workfloor. Amazing ideas from all different types of people are continuously being shared and it takes an enormous amount of leadership to keep overview. The steps that must be taken in the process of ideas becoming executed actions are key and distinguished by creativity, strategy and most importantly collaboration.
Collaboration not only happens within our association’s committees but also between different committees. With such teams composed of individuals from different backgrounds the established collaboration is relatively special. It is those teams that contribute to the defining of our association. Only through intensive collaboration can we manage to harness the aforementioned organized chaos that we also experience. In the end, organized chaos is not only a challenge that must be overcome, but also allows us to reach higher levels of creativity and success. Organized chaos is therefore something that must be embraced rather than avoided. I believe this is the case for not only the MARUG but for all study associations and teams in general striving for creative excellence and success. I hope you enjoyed reading this MARUG perspective on the value of organized chaos and keep enjoying while reading the rest of this beautiful EBF yearbook!
With kind regards,
Tim Stapper Chairman of the 43rd MARUG BoardHello everyone!
First of all, we would like to thank the Yearbook Committee for making this possible! For the people that may not know the Financial Study Association Groningen (FSG), we are the organisation for all financially interested students in Groningen. We are the study association for the financially interested student in general, but specifically we are there for the students who study Finance, International Financial Management, Accountancy and Controlling, and Management Accounting and Control.
The board of our association consists of: Frank Pauwels (Chairman), Jan Willem Bouma (Vice-Chairman), Eva Beukers (Secretary), Vera Kodde (Treasurer), David van Elsdingen (External Relations), and Femke Postma (Internal Relations).
The theme of the yearbook is ‘Organized Chaos’, a perfect description of our lifestyle at ‘het hok’. In the chaos of clutter, hundreds of electrical cables, coffee mugs, rotten apples and (dead) fish, we will make sure to lead our association in an organised manner throughout the upcoming board year. However, one thing is certain about Chaos: it will undoubtedly prevail at FSG socials where all drinks, despite inflation, are still free for all our members. We, as the 4th Board of FSG, still have the full board year ahead of us. We look forward to immersing ourselves in the ‘organized chaos’ that lies ahead and hope to forge many friendships during the coming year.
Greetings from one of the neighbors on the Interim,
Dear EBF members,
Before delving into this year’s theme, I would like to express my thanks and congratulations to the Yearbook Committee for the beautiful yearbook they have created. One doesn’t need experience in such endeavors to appreciate the effort and countless hours invested in achieving such a splendid result. We, as VESTING - the study association for students in the fields of Econometrics, Operations Research, and Actuarial Studies - are honored to have been asked to contribute to this year’s yearbook. We are pleased that, due to our somewhat overlapping fields of interest, we can once again strengthen our relationship.
The theme for this year’s yearbook is “Organized Chaos.” Upon encountering this theme, a myriad of ideas and anecdotes flooded my mind. While many of these tales may not be suitable for immortalization within these pages, I am eager to share the story of a memorable night. Each year in February, we celebrate the last social of our old board and the first social of our new board with a special evening. This was the evening when we were inaugurated as the new board. We had a very busy day behind us, and it was all very chaotic for us. We had to go from one place to another. It seemed to us like there was no structure to that day at all, but despite this, everything went very smoothly.
This was for us a perfect example of “organized chaos,” something we will most likely experience many more times throughout our coming board year. Despite the immense chaos, these moments often yield beautiful memories.
With kind regards,
The 35th VESTING Board
Dear EBFriends,
In the bustling metropolis of academia, where the labyrinth of education often veers into the realm of organised chaos, one beacon shines brighter than the rest: the faculty association of the Faculty of Economics and Business of the RUG.
Picture this: a tapestry of events woven together, one after the other.
But make no mistake - behind the scenes, the chaos reigns supreme. This is where the magic happens. This is where the EBF flourishes. The architects of the organised chaos. With their screams of joy or disappointment passing our walls, screams stemming from your constant battle of planning, organising, promoting and bringing your best every day. This is how you protect the success of the endless parties we have, the endless career opportunities we gain and the endless memories we create.
This is how you are navigating the labyrinth of students life, this is how you are the guiding light, offering not just a roadmap, but a sense of community. Whether we’re charting our career path, improving our skills, or simply forging friendships, EBF is there every step of the way, a constant companion in our journey through the chaos of academia.
So here’s to EBF, the architects of organised chaos, the maestros of student life, and the guardians of our academic odyssey. As we turn the pages of this almanac, let’s reflect on the memories we’ve made, the lessons we’ve learned, and the friendships we’ve forged, with thanks to the EBF.
Lots of love,
On behalf of the 15th TeMa Board,
Martijn Brouwer ChairmanDear members of EBF,
As we flip through the pages of your old yearbooks, we can’t help but reflect on the theme that you chose, “Organized Chaos” – a theme that resonates deeply with our journey as members of the vibrant study association of International Relations and International Organisations, Clio.
From the outside looking in, our endeavours may seem like a whirlwind of bustling activity, a symphony of meetings, events, and debates – a beautiful chaos if you will. But within this chaos lies a meticulous organisation, a finely tuned engine that drives us forward, ever curious, ever engaged.
Like economists navigating the complexities of global markets, we, too, navigate the intricate web of international relations, embracing the chaos with open arms. It’s in these moments of flux and uncertainty that we thrive, finding order in the chaos, and forging pathways towards understanding.
The relation between EBF and Clio can also be described as an “Organized Chaos”, certain events, like World Wide Welcome are a perfect example of this.
In the midst of our organised chaos, we find unity – a diverse tapestry of minds, each contributing a unique thread to the fabric of our association. Whether we’re dissecting the intricacies of diplomacy or unravelling the complexities of global governance, we do so with passion, determination, and a sprinkle of that Clio x EBF charm.
To the dedicated members, thank you for being the architects of this organised chaos. Your energy, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment are the driving forces behind every success, every triumph, and every unforgettable moment.
As we pen down this chapter of your yearbook, let’s cherish the memories we’ve created, the friendships we’ve forged, and the lessons we’ve learned. Here’s to embracing the chaos, finding beauty in the disarray, and marching forward with purpose, together.
With love,
36th Board of Study Association Clio
Dear members of EBF,
Running a Faculty Association can be quite a chaotic task sometimes. A board sitting on the interim with 8 people at a table to have breakfast and tell about their weekend can be a chicken hok already on Monday morning. But luckily a board is perfectly organised with all functions and a chairman to manage the organised chaos.
We were happy to have had a mix with our boards this winter, to be part of your organised chaos for a night and get to know you all better. As Faculty Associations we have similarities like running committees, making long workingdays, gaining presentation skills and think about policy. As well as, we like to drink some beers in ‘t Fust, Huize Maas, ‘t Gat or at consti’s together. Moreover we both have a Luuk, as external relations. From the beginning of the year they had the idea to bring your Luuk to your work day. This year, we can enjoy them everyday calling and having fun at the interim. We are looking forward to our next mix in summer! Since our boards both had some chaos this year, we always helped out if necessary and we would like to work further with you on this good note to keep the chaos as organised as we can.
As we are all students we like to have things organised for ourselves, for our studies, for our plans and our futures. Mostly our days are very spontaneous and we do not know where we will be for dinner or the evening. During your student years, it is important to enjoy this spontaneity and do not think too much about the following future yet. If you enjoy the activities and parties you will make friends for the rest of your life and you will find a balance between studying and partying! Within this chaos you will see that some future career options will already come along. Even though you might not know at all what you want to do yet. When the possible options are less abstract, studying becomes way more fun as well. For now, we recommend to enjoy this organised chaos of studying with friends, and party in the city center, for as long as you can.
Enjoy reading this beautiful yearbook further!
Dear EBF, dear members,
It is a great honour to be contributing to the almanac of EBF Groningen on behalf of the 116th Board of the Juridische Faculteitsvereniging Groningen. For well over one hundred years, the JFV Groningen has been the study association of all law students at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. We aim to provide the student with all their needs, such as introductory activities, selling course summaries in our own JFV Studiewinkel and several recruitment events.
And in organising these matters, the EBF and JFV Groningen are on common ground. The EBF does an excellent job in providing all their member students with all necessary study assistance they might need, as well as facilitating many prospective, enlightening events. In other words we both aim to organise some chaos here and there. One might say that this theme looks just a little conceited. Namely, in the prospect of the ancient Greek, all Gods derive from the organisation of Chaos. This then makes the EBF the creator of all gods. I doubt this would even be expressed by us self-righteous legalists ourselves!
However, I would never want to underestimate the efforts put in by EBF’s Board and all active members past year. You have all done an outstanding job and we have loved all delightful consti’s and other activities with you. I am sure that we will continue with our collaboration in the coming years. Thanks for everything and all the best with organising all Chaos!
On behalf of the 116th Board of the Juridische Faculteitsvereniging,
Lidewij TuinhoutDear brother, dear member of EBF, dear board, dear reader,
In the midst of the tumult of our gap year, where leading becomes a full-time occupation and chaos reigns supreme in our daily lives, it is a true pleasure to share our experiences in this yearbook with the theme ‘Organized Chaos’. As the 37th board of the Medical Faculty Association Panacea, we have become masters in juggling responsibilities amidst a healthy dose of chaos. Organized chaos may seem like a paradox, but for us, it is our reality. Just yesterday, as we were getting ready for a gala in Amsterdam at a hostel, one of us had an online meeting. This resulted in the rest of us creatively maneuvering around her, crawling on the floor with a bottle of wine in hand. It was a hilarious yet perfect example of how we navigate through chaos together. Remarkably, her meeting went smoothly, despite the unconventional setting. Our physical meetings that we have every Tuesday sometimes resemble scenes from a comedy film, where seven enthusiastic women are bursting with ideas all at once. Yet, amidst this chaos, we find our strength and form an unstoppable team. It’s actually not surprising that having seven women on a board can be effective, especially considering the increasing trend of women taking leadership roles in various industries, including the corporate world. And speaking of the corporate world, it’s impossible not to think of EBF! At the lively constitution drinks, we often find ourselves engaged in spirited games of tic-tac-toe, where the competition between M.F.V. Panacea and EBF is in full swing. These gatherings are a vivid testament to how chaos and camaraderie go hand in hand. And if the board of EBF happens to read this, we can’t help but wonder, when is our next match?
Despite our paths mainly crossing at these events, we cherish the warm bond we share with EBF. Because in the world of ‘organized chaos’, the significance of shared laughter, friendly competition, and the simple joys of life cannot be overstated.
That leaves me with just one more thing. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Yearbook Committee for creating this beautiful book. It is my honor to contribute.
On behalf of the 37th Board of the Medical Faculty Association Panacea, Jynthe Hannessen
h.t. Chair of the M.F.V. Panacea
Dear EBF, dear brother,
It is a huge honor and privilege to be a part of your yearbook for the academic year 2023/2024. As VIP, Study Association Psychology Groningen, we really appreciate our bond with EBF, one of our brother associations that we are fond of. We were immediately captivated by this year’s Almanac theme; Organized Chaos. When one thinks of the definition of Organized Chaos, one might say that it refers to a situation or system that appears chaotic on the surface but actually has underlying structure or order. It is like a messy student room, in which the student can (within a second) find the right pair of socks. This is ironic because we truly believe as Board members, a year could not have a better definition than your almanac theme. Although we have been through some chaotic moments this year, we have always tried to manage our associations in the best way possible. Some moments were higher on the ranking of chaos than others, but they were beautiful. Organized Chaos brings our members together in a way we could have never imagined, they foster connections and shared experiences that can be both hilarious and memorable. Our year came together in a memorable way as well. EBF and VIP had two excursions to the same locations during the same time, how organized was this chaos?! The first trip took place to La Plagne and it was a fantastic wintersport week in the French Alps. Each day ended chaotically with a lot of fun while dancing in the apres ski in Le Bonnet. The other excursion took place a bit later in the academic year. This trip went to the beautiful capital city of Austria; Vienna. During this period, our members got to know each other and other students in a new way. They also got to know the culture, which they (chaotically) dived into. Dear EBF, we want to thank you for the incredible year and all the beautiful and chaotic memories we have made together. You have done an amazing job organizing in all the chaos during this past year.
Lots of love,
43rd Board of VIP
Kristel, Willemijn, Jildou, Sophiane, Marrit, and Simon course our active members. Enjoy!
‘’In May 1976, there were five Business Administration students who were convinced that studying is not just about reading books and preparing for exams. They wanted to excel and organize more career-oriented events for themselves and fellow students. These five board members founded a study association specifically for the students of Rotterdam School of Management (RSM), which is now known as STAR.
In the 46 years that STAR has existed, the study association has transformed into a professional organization with over 6500 members who can develop themselves personally and professionally. This makes STAR the largest European student-run study association! Every year, there are over 250 active members who dedicate themselves to around 450 STAR projects and activities. We are convinced that STAR can add value to your student life: not only can you learn a lot in a professional context, but you will also make friends for life! We have a drink every Wednesday evening, so feel free to come and have a beer with us!
Every year, STAR organizes various academic, social, research, and recruitment activities. We are particularly proud of our STAR Management Week (SMW), the Case Competition, OpenEUR, Study Trips, and the Erasmus Recruitment Days (ER). At each of these events, we keep STAR’s mission in mind: “LEARN. GROW. EXCEL.”
Dear members of EBF,
I am writing to you on behalf of Study Association Aureus. It is an honour that you have granted us a spot in your almanac. Back in the day, in 1948, a group of VU students formed the Economic Faculty Association Amsterdam. The association focused most of its efforts on organizing excursions. We now know this association as Aureus, offering students a lot more than that. Aureus is the starting point for a successful career and takes you by the hand through your student-years, making it a time you’ll never forget.
EBF and Aureus have had a good relationship over the years. Even though the distance between Amsterdam and Groningen is quite big, we feel nothing of this distance when we come together. Whether it is working together, or seeing each other at constitution drinks; we always connect closely.
The constitutions drinks where we met several times are a great example of the theme of this year’s almanak: Organized chaos. While trying to keep everything organized by having a strict padel, it always becomes chaotic when the ‘brassen’ starts. Your COBO was one to remember; or maybe not, as it became a blurry night after all.
As both your and our constitution drinks have been highlights of our year, I think it is fair to state that we quite like this organized chaos. Being organized would be boring without chaos, having chaos would be too much without being organized. We look for a nice balance between the two.
On behalf of the 75th board of Study Association Aureus,
Sterre Woelders

Dear members of EBF,
Dive into the world of Sefa, where the buzz of Amsterdam meets the brains of its students. We’re all about making the most of our time at university, mixing serious academic grind with the kind of fun that you’ll want to remember. Sefa is the Economics and Business faculty association of the University of Amsterdam. We organize around 125 activities every year for our 7000 members. Everything we organize is based on our four main pillars: international experiences, career events, social activities, and academic development. Sefa is the place where you’ll chase your career dreams and create friends for life at the same time. We’ve got everything from extravagant parties to the largest career events that could land you your first job. It’s an amazing association for every economics and business student looking to make their mark.
Now about our relationship with EBF. We’ve always had a strong bond through our mutual events and participation in the Big 5. At Sefa we really value the dedication you have to your members as well as to your partners and sister associations like Sefa. Through the Big 5, we have come to know EBF as a fun and outgoing association that doesn’t mind a drink or two. By far our best memories with EBF were during the constitution drinks and barbecues at the start of the year. With EBF being the first to hold their ‘Cobo’, we have to say it was a worthy and memorable start of the year and to our friendship. We hope to share many more events with EBF’s board and members in the coming months and the years to come.
As is the case at many like-minded associations, ‘organizing chaos’ goes into the essence of Sefa and becomes very much apparent in both EBF’s and Sefa’s energetic communities. It’s about creating a space where students feel free to express themselves, share ideas, and contribute to the association’s character. This chaos is not just noise; it’s the sound of networking, collaboration, and the creation of lasting relationships. It’s a dynamic backdrop against which our members develop both personally and professionally.
We want to thank EBF and its members for the collaborations and shared experiences over the past year. We hope to see you all soon and wish your association all the best.
Warm regards,
The 102nd Board of Sefa
Dear EBF readers,
We feel honored to be in your almanac, a collection of great moments to look back on! With over 7000 members, EFR is one of the most active and most professional study associations in the Netherlands. From academic events to recruitment occasions and social gatherings; we bridge the gap between theory and practice.
Each year, we organise various activities and events for students of the Erasmus School of Economics, as well as other students of Erasmus University. Among other things, we offer the cheapest books, provide study support, and organise social events to help students feel at home in Rotterdam. We also help prepare you for the labour market, bring you in touch with your future employer, and enhance your student experience.
To us, the concept of "organised chaos" reflects the vibrant and dynamic nature of our activities and the energetic pulse of student life. It grasps the beautiful disorder found in juggling multiple responsibilities around: from managing academic deadlines, coordinating large-scale events, to facilitating networking opportunities that might seem chaotic from the outside, yet are well orchestrated to encourage both personal and professional growth.
"Organised chaos" also embodies the spontaneity and fun that characterizes our events. Whether it's a sudden change in the event schedule or an important speaker addition for Inspiration Days, we thrive in adapting swiftly and efficiently, turning potential disruptions into memorable and enriching experiences. This flexibility is crucial not only in managing a large and diverse student body but also in preparing them for the unpredictability of the economic landscape.
Furthermore, this theme resonates with our commitment to innovation and creativity. In the fast-paced world of economics, the ability to navigate through and capitalize on chaos is invaluable. We train our members to see the patterns in the chaos, to find clarity in complexity, and to embrace the unexpected challenges as opportunities for innovation.
In essence, "organised chaos" at EFR is not just about managing disorder; it's about thriving in it, learning from it, and enjoying the ride. It’s about creating a space where dynamic learning and fun coexist, fostering an environment where every challenge is an opportunity and every unexpected twist adds to the richness of our collective experience.
In conclusion, embracing organised chaos has shaped EFR into a resilient, adaptive, and forward-thinking community that stands ready to support its members through the thrilling journey of university life!

This year’s introduction weekend took place on the beautiful island of Germany; Borkum. The first year students got the opportunity to get to know each other and had a great time!
To start this year off right we had a ‘Beginning of the Year Party’. The theme of this year’s party was EBF blue. As you can see in the pictures our active members interpreted this theme beautifully.
The EBF conference is the largest two-day student conference in the Netherlands. This year’s theme was ‘The art of adapting: achieving success in a world of disruption’. The ‘art’ of adapting involves a combination of flexibility, resilience and creativity. A lot of interesting speakers came by to talk about their companies and the importance of these elements. For example, Dolf van den Brink (CEO HEINEKEN Company), Agnes Koops-Aukes (CEO PwC NL) and Dominique Hermans (CEO Randstad Northern Europ visited this year’s conference.

The Sports Committee organized a fun night at Kardinge: EBF on ice. A fun night to learn how to ice skate or show the other members your skills. The night was of course finished with a cozy cup of hot chocolate.
This year the European Study Research Fall took place in Athens! A group of 25 students, 2 professors and 6 committee members took off to Greece for a week of cultural activities, company visits with the aim of finalizing the research, and chances to experience the amazing nightlife the city of Athens has to offer. It was a great opportunity for students to broaden their university experience and their network, and to make some great memories!
In December, the EBF Christmas Ball Committee organized another fun Christmas Ball. It took place at Maas and the theme was Royals. A lot of members joined this evening, looking their best and getting use out of the unlimited drinks.
