MESSAGE FROM MARK FAANES, Chair of the Board of Trustees Every day, we witness the results of your generosity. Thanks to your support, ECCF can help fund an array of programs and assets for local nonprofits. We see firsthand the far-reaching, life-changing, and transformative impact of grants as they make a difference in our area communities. And what a difference it’s been! Since January 1, 2016, ECCF has disbursed over $1 million in grants to 230 nonprofit organizations. Thanks to donors like you, the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild will have sturdy new stage curtains at the Grand Theatre; the Family Resource Center for Eau Claire County will have a new literacy-based toy lending library for local families; Girls on the Run of the Chippewa Valley will have a new curriculum for the girls it serves; and the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic will provide free dental care to low-income area residents. These examples represent just a handful of the forty-three grants awarded in ECCF’s 2016 grant cycle. At the same time, we continue to collaborate with our peers in supporting community projects with donations that flow through ECCF. For example, the Confluence Building Fund held at ECCF supports the construction of the new Confluence Arts Center. This public-private partnership was created to address the facility and programming needs of community arts organizations and UW-Eau Claire; to promote regional long term economic viability; and to stimulate redevelopment in downtown Eau Claire. The Confluence Fundraising Taskforce is currently seeking donations to meet the $1.5 million matching grant, which ends December 31. You can help this great cause by becoming a sponsor; there are several levels of sponsorships still available. Please contact ECCF if you’re interested.

Total Assets: $19.3 million

As 2016 moves towards a close and you consider your year-end tax alternatives, please consider a gift to ECCF of appreciated securities or other property. If you are 70 ½ years or older and have not used your IRA disbursement, this is a great time to consider using your IRA to make a charitable gift for a tax saving opportunity.

Total Awarded Grants $973,780 to 230 Organizations: Confluence grants$717,607 All Others $256,173

We can assist you and your financial and tax advisors with the process. To ensure a seamless transfer of your gift, please call us with your gifting instructions by Thursday, December 15, 2016, to guarantee timely processing and ensure that the funds will be properly transferred for IRS purposes.

PROVISION PERMITS Tax-free Charitable Transfers from IRAs

There’s good news for donors: The PATH Act allows taxpayers ages 70 ½ and up to bypass income tax by rolling over as much as $100,000 annually from their IRAs directly to charities. “It’s a win-win for people who would rather give to charity than pay taxes and for the nonprofit organizations they choose to support,” said Sue Bornick, ECCF Executive Director.

OUR MISSION We strengthen our community by offering donors opportunities to establish charitable legacies, by making grants, and by serving as a catalyst to address community needs.

The ECCF can help donors execute the transfers and choose from several charitable fund options for their gifts. However, Donor Advised Funds don’t qualify for tax-free IRA transfers. “This really is a powerful opportunity,” said Bornick. “For anyone interested in establishing a permanent legacy in this community, this is a chance of a lifetime to make the gift of a lifetime.” Please write to info@eccommunityfoundation.org or call the office at (715) 552-3801 if you’d like more information about this opportunity.

EAU CLAIRE PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION

NEW FUNDS 2016

NEW SCHOLARSHIPS The 2016-17 school year is off to an exciting start thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor. The new J. Murphy STEM Scholarship established this past summer will have a transformational impact for one student each year as he or she embarks on post-secondary studies in science, technology, engineering or math related fields. This incredible new scholarship, available only to ECASD students, will offer the honoree $10,000 per year, renewable for a total of four years, for their college studies.

Helen and Karl Andresen Family Endowment for Special Needs

HOMELESS CHILDREN & YOUTH FUND: A fund that helps support our students in greatest need is seeing a surge in support from the community thanks to a variety of events drawing attention to this important issue in the district. The Homeless Children & Youth Fund, benefiting the Homelessness Program at the Eau Claire Area School District, was the beneficiary of the Border Battle Golf Outing again this fall, raising over $30,000 for the fund. A local concert was also put on in October at the Local Store and dedicated the $13,000 it raised to the fund. GOLDEN APPLE: The second annual Golden Apple Awards are fast-approaching. On April 6, 2017, twenty staff members from the Eau Claire Area School District (one from each school) will be selected by their peers and honored with grant funding supported by generous local businesses. The banquet will take place at Wild Ridge & Mill Run Golf Course. Stay tuned for announcement of this year’s honorees! Charlie Grossklaus Board Chair, Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation

CHIPPEWA VALLEY THEATRE GUILD

FLYING EAGLES SKI CLUB

The Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild is a volunteer-driven community theatre that’s served the greater Eau Claire area since 1981. It develops, encourages, and promotes opportunities for community members of all ages to experience live Theatre Arts, whether on stage, behind the scenes, in the audience, or in a classroom.

The Flying Eagles Ski Club has a rich 130 year history of serving youth in the Chippewa Valley. It promotes recreational and competitive skiing at all levels, including the disciplines of Ski Jumping, Cross Country Skiing, and Alpine.

Last season, eleven shows were produced with the help of 40,000 volunteer hours from our talented local community members. The Guild’s 36th Annual Mainstage Season opened with the Broadway musical Oklahoma at The State Theatre. The Season at The Grand begins November 3rd with the comedy Dead Man’s Cell Phone.

Skiers start when they’re as young as 3 years old and continue on into their adulthood. In the process, they gain confidence, coordination, and a sense of accomplishment no matter what level they reach. Some of those levels are impressive indeed; the Ski Club has produced Junior Olympic Champions, National Champions, and multiple Olympians.

With financial support from the Eau Claire Community Foundation, the Theatre Guild was able to purchase new stage curtains for The Grand Theatre, which has been the home for the Guild for the last ten years. Thanks to community support, the show will go on at the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild!

The Eau Claire Community Foundation has been a magnificent help in providing funding to help the Ski Club finish its 30 meter ski jump. It can now run programs in the summer and the winter for its members, the Boys and Girls Club, and its Learn to Ski day for youth in the Chippewa Valley. It’s also adding a program with the YMCA. Community support helps keep the Flying Eagles flying high!

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF THE GREATER CHIPPEWA VALLEY The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley – Mary Markquart Center recently moved into its new location at 1005 Oxford Avenue. This move created new opportunities for success and growth for its members and their families. In this new, larger location, youth and teens have their own separate areas filled with unique materials specific to their developmental needs. Funds from the Eau Claire Community Foundation will help purchase new cafeteria and homework tables and support the gardening program, which will allow members to build garden boxes and grow their own produce. The Club would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to ECCF and all community members, donors, and families for their ongoing support! More information can be found at www.cvclubs.org.

opportunities PREVENT BLINDNESS WISCONSIN Vision problems affect 1 in 4 school aged children, yet 86% of children don’t receive an eye exam before entering school. Since its founding in 1958, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin has worked to correct this problem by providing free vision screenings to more than 6.5 million children. Its Children’s Vision Screening program works to detect vision impairments that can limit a child’s ability to learn. Many vision impairments must be caught early, while a child’s eyes are still developing, to ensure the best chance of corrective care. As the state’s leading expert on vision screening, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin trains and certifies partners and volunteers to conduct vision screenings in their communities. These vision screenings are supported in part by a 2016 grant from ECCF. Thanks to these screenings, local children can see more clearly now.
