FALL 2015 BOARD OF TRUSTEES 2015-2016

MESSAGE FROM MARK FAANES, CHAIR OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES Every day, we witness the results of your generosity. Thanks to your support, ECCF can help fund an array of programs and assets for local nonprofits. We see firsthand the far-reaching, life-changing, and transformative impact of grants as they make a difference in our area communities. Thanks to donors like you, the Chippewa Valley Museum will expand its exciting new Changing Currents exhibit; the Boys and Girls Club will provide quality food and programming to area children; the Eau Claire YMCA will have new portable scoreboards and archery equipment available to young athletes; and Feed My People will make healthy meals available to low-income residents who lack transportation. These examples represent just a handful of the forty-four grants awarded in ECCF’s 2015 grant cycle. At the same time, we continue to collaborate with our peers in supporting community projects with donations that flow through ECCF. For example, the Jeffers Park Development Fundraising committee is planning their final push for donations so our children can “play ball” in the spring at this 5 diamond complex. There are several levels of sponsorships still open for this community-enhancing project. Another innovative approach is the Confluence Building Fund, which is held at ECCF. Its fundraising task force is also planning their final push for donations, an especially exciting endeavor since an anonymous donor has offered a match of one million dollars! The Confluence Project is a public-private partnership created to address the facility and programming needs of community arts organizations and UW-Eau Claire; to promote regional long term economic viability; and to stimulate redevelopment in downtown Eau Claire. As I begin my tenure as Chair of the Eau Claire Community Foundation Board of Trustees, I am honored to follow so many exceptional Chairs, not the least of whom is Jane Lokken, our most recent Chair. I want to extend my appreciation to Past Chair Pat Quinn as well as to Jill Barland and Tom Dow, who have served 6 years on the Board of Trustees. Their expertise and vision have advanced our mission of being a catalyst to address community needs. With gratitude, Mark Faanes, Chair Eau Claire Community Foundation

NEW FACE AT THE FOUNDATION! Erin Dayton is our new Development Assistant. She is originally from La Crosse, Wisconsin, and moved to Eau Claire from Albuquerque, NM, twelve years ago. She previously worked for the local and the national Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Jeff, and her two children, Cody and Alyssa. She is looking forward to her new role and to learning more about the Foundation.

OUR MISSION

2015 GRANT HIGHLIGHTS

YMCA

EAU CLAIRE CHILDREN’S THEATRE

The Eau Claire YMCA Youth Basketball program introduces the sport to more than 500 kids a year. Players are now enjoying the benefits of new portable scoreboards funded by the Eau Claire Community Foundation. When used indoors, the YMCA is able to score multiple games at one time and use gyms not previously set up for games. The YMCA is excited about the new possibilities these scoreboards will open up in the future, including outdoor tournaments and improved scoring for other activities, including football.

The Eau Claire Children’s Theatre enters its 27th season of providing quality theatrical and educational opportunities for families in the Chippewa Valley this fall. Each season ECCT produces 16 shows, including major Broadway musicals and plays based on award-winning children’s literature along with a wide variety of summer classes for young people ages 3-18. ECCT also hosts a number of competitions and special events throughout the year, including the Big Band Monster Bash, Purses with Purpose, Starquest, the Northern WI State Fair Talent Competition, and Dancing with the Eau Claire Stars. This year’s season features a number of blockbuster shows including Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Camelot, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, and The Wizard of Oz. Check out www.ecct.org for complete details! In 2015, ECCT received a grant from the ECCF for the purchase of an HD projector, which allows it to have even more flexibility in creating scenery for its shows.

The YMCA also received funding to improve the archery equipment at Camp Manitou, a necessary upgrade to this popular program. This grant will replace bows and arrows as well as construct a shed for target storage, improving the program’s longevity. Both grants will help the YMCA continue to promote fitness and teamwork among Eau Claire’s youth.

MAKING A GIFT OF A LIFETIME

WOMEN’S GIVING CIRCLE NEWS

“I named the Eau Claire Community Foundation as my IRA’s beneficiary, based on a recommendation from my tax accountant several years ago, “

The Women’s Giving Circle is approaching the end of another great year, with a membership that has reached well over 200 and a record seven grants being awarded. These grants will be voted on at the Annual Meeting on Nov. 2, 2015. Any Women’s Giving Circle member who has paid her dues by Oct. 31 is eligible to vote.

said Jennifer.

“My retirement savings are more than I need, and a great deal of their work would be lost to taxes upon my death if I gave them to my children as an inheritance. Instead, the community foundation will put them to work for me by helping people in the Eau Claire area with my legacy.”

Ask how you can become a member of ECCF’s Legacy Society by calling 715-552-3801 and visiting with Sue Bornick.

New members are always welcome to join the Women’s Giving Circle. Please consult the Women’s Giving Circle page on the ECCF website (www.eccommunityfoundation.org), call the ECCF at (715) 552-3801, or write to info@eccommunityfoundation.org if you’d like more information about becoming a member. FUTURE DATES FOR YOUR CALENDAR Annual Meeting – Monday, Nov. 2, 4:30-6:30 PM at the Eau Claire Golf and Country Club Gift of Giving Breakfast – Wednesday, Dec. 2, 7:30 am at the Clarion: 2015 grantees will be honored and officially receive their grant awards.

FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER FOR EAU CLAIRE COUNTY

REACH, INC.

If you’ve ever strolled through Oakwood Mall in Eau Claire, you’ve likely seen a very inviting play area, which has been made even more engaging due to the generosity of the Eau Claire Community Foundation. That play area is part of the Family Resource Center, whose mission is to provide programs and services that build on family strengths through prevention, education, support and collaboration with other resources. The FRC mantra is "children don't come with instructions."

Supported Employment Services (SES) is a program within Reach, Inc., which has been serving Chippewa Valley adults and children with disabilities for the last 52 years.

So far this year, over 3400 moms, dads, grandparents, AND kids have arrived to play in this fun, safe environment. By stopping in our free play area, they become more comfortable with the staff of the Family Resource Center and may be more open to our family education programs and our signature Home Visiting program.

SES helps adults with disabilities find competitive jobs in the community. Recently, SES was awarded a grant to upgrade some technology in its office. This technology upgrade will allow SES to better serve its clients in a timely manner by quickly and efficiently submitting progress reports to the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation and to employment agencies. These progress reports help ensure that matches made by SES are meeting both client and employer needs. SES would like to thank the Eau Claire Community Foundation for its support and for helping us serve our clients.

We thank the Eau Claire Community Foundation for our grant to purchase rugs, play materials, and toy storage to make this well-loved and well-used area even more appealing to our youngest visitors.

Above: Anita Bergevin and Daniel Kitchen pose with the new grant-funded fax board that was installed in the SES photocopier. SES will also use the grant to purchase signature pads.
