Letter From the ECPSF Chair 2017 has been an exciting year for the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation as we continue to grow and expand opportunities for the kids in our district. ECPSF continues to provide funding to support innovative projects, hands-on experiences, new extracurricular opportunities, and much-needed materials for the students and classrooms of Eau Claire Area School District; 2017 was no exception. Because of your partnership and support, the Foundation was able to grant funding for: a STEM day on UWEC campus, a history research field trip to Madison, a theatre field trip to Minneapolis, an in-service opera experience, sustainable and educational gardening, a new mountain biking club, a new robotics club, and so much more. Enclosed, you can view the list of all of the year’s grants, and see the impact that more than $78,000 was able to provide. As a physician in Eau Claire, and a parent to children in our schools, I have the privilege to see first-hand the partnerships created through ECPSF and how they benefit our kids. I encourage you to make a difference today with a gift or a pledge to the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation. Planned and endowed gifts create an impact forever, and gifts at any level can benefit our students today. It is an honor to chair the board, and I welcome your partnership with our schools! Together, we can ensure the future.

The Golden Apple is awarded annually in April by nomination of peers and distinguishes one outstanding educator in each of the Eau Claire Area School District’s schools. ECPSF partners with generous area businesses to sponsor unrestricted grant funding for each honoree and school. Cheryl Moss, special education assistant, was honored for Northwoods Elementary School in 2017. She used her Golden Apple grant funding to create a new sensory room, referred to as the “ZEN” room, a space for all students to utilize!

Featured Grant STEM Makers Space Robotics Club Each year, countless faculty and staff write in to the Foundation with funding requests to support new and innovative projects. In 2017, one of the grants approved was for technology education teacher Rob Beese to launch a new STEM Makers Space robotics club for Northstar Middle School, offering hands-on, applied learning opportunities for students to build and program robots together. With additional funding for added robot kits, more students were able to participate in what Mr. Beese called “a positive/challenging environment”, and the club expanded to offering Blugold Beginnings to partner as well. The club is an engaging and fun educational experience for the students. “Without this grant, we would not have been able to have multiple teams compete against each other in robot challenges,” Beese shared. “The generous grant from the foundation helped lay the groundwork!”

Featured Fund Artist in Classroom Endowed Fund A new fund at the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation is supporting a hands-on, creative learning experience for young students! The Artist in Classroom Endowed Fund was established by Mitchell and Liz Spencer in order to provide support for an artist to share her/his art and technique with Flynn Elementary students and faculty over the course of an entire semester. "It is important to bring the artist into the school and classroom and for the faculty and students to become involved with the artist. The purpose of the Artist in Classroom program is to expand the experience and knowledge of the both the students and faculty," Mitchell shared.
