Our community’s extraordinary quality of life might have come to mind. There are many reasons for that quality, not the least of which is the dedicated work of our local nonprofits. From the Pablo Center’s vibrant arts scene to the Family Resource Center’s support of new parents to the Flying Eagles Ski Club’s soaring athletes to the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic’s medical care for those in need—their efforts are apparent almost everywhere you look. The Eau Claire Community Foundation is proud to support those efforts by connecting donors to the charities they care most about. 2018 has brought many exciting changes to ECCF: New software, a new Socially Responsible Investment Fund, and 12 new family funds. Thanks to your generosity, ECCF has been able to issue more than $2.5 million in grants in 2018 alone, bringing our grant total since inception to over $12.5 million. Fund holders will be able to increase that total even more easily with the recent launch of Community Portal. This new software allows them to recommend grants—as well as check their fund balances, make contributions, and otherwise interact with their funds—from any computer, any time. Fund holders will receive information about how to log in to their accounts, and ECCF staff will be happy to help them if they have any questions. As 2018 moves towards a close and you consider your year-end tax alternatives, please consider a gift to ECCF of appreciated securities or other property. If you are 70 ½ years or older and haven’t used your IRA disbursement, this is a great time to consider using your IRA to make a charitable gift for a tax saving opportunity. We can assist you and your advisors with the process. To ensure a seamless transfer of your gift, please call us with your gifting instructions by December 15, 2018. Thank you all for your generous support of ECCF! Because of you, our nonprofits can do even more to help our community thrive. I wish you a warm, happy, and joyous holiday season. With gratitude,

FORMING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER

2018 Autumn Social

2018 Professional Advisor Event

In September, ECCF held its Autumn Social for fund holders and their guests. Highlights included Pat Quinn’s acceptance of the Leadership Award and Chris Hasenberg’s speech about his family’s donor advised fund and Legacy Society membership. This was a great chance for ECCF to thank all the wonderful people who make the Foundation possible.

ECCF hosted its 13th Annual Professional Advisor Event in October. Suzanne Friday, Council on Foundations’ Senior Legal Counsel and Vice President of Legal Affairs, spoke about 2018 tax law changes, donor advised fund implications, and how to make a difference with your IRA. This event gives Professional Advisors even more tools to help their clients fulfill their charitable goals.

Women’s Giving Circle 2018 Fall Education Event: Cyberbullying

Make a Difference with your Charitable IRA Contribution!

The Women’s Giving Circle, a fund of ECCF, doesn’t just award grants; it also educates members and guests about the Eau Claire area’s most pressing needs. This year’s Fall Educational Event focused on Cyberbullying and its impact on the community. Donations from the event supported the Cyberbullying Prevention Program.

IRA transfers to ECCF are an excellent way for you to establish a fund that helps you fulfill your charitable goals. Establish your fund with a minimum of $500, and once it reaches $10,000, your legacy will make an impact on our community forever! Please contact Sue Bornick at ECCF for more information.

Fund Spotlight | Phillip and Barbara Fey Fund Phillip and Barbara Fey have already done much to enhance Eau Claire’s quality of life; among other accomplishments, they became Society of Founders members by making a generous gift that helped create ECCF. Barbara is a Founder and lifetime member of ECCF’s Women’s Giving Circle, and Phillip received the 2012 “Outstanding Achievement Award” for his contributions on behalf of local children. They’ve continued their philanthropy through two ECCF Funds: The Donor Advised “Phillip and Barbara Fey Family

Fund” allows the Feys and their family to recommend grants to nonprofits that are important to them, while the Unrestricted “Phillip and Barbara Fey Fund” gives ECCF grant reviewers the flexibility to recommend grants that address the community’s most pressing needs. The Feys’ funds have already made a positive difference in the Eau Claire community, and they’ll continue to do so long into the future. ECCF thanks the Feys for their vision and generosity.

Grantee Spotlight | Workforce Resource, Inc. In an ironic mismatch, many employers struggle to fill positions for in-demand occupations, while many individuals struggle to find positions for which they’re qualified. That’s where Workforce Resource, Inc. (WRI) comes in. It offers hands-on instruction and mentoring to motivate individuals to complete the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). The NCRC is a valuable credential that allows job seekers to verify foundational workplace skills. Thanks to an ECCF grant of more than $10,000, WRI was able to pioneer its “Career Readiness Bootcamps” for job seekers.

WRI is currently working with its fifth group of students, who are in the process of completing their NCRC in partnership with Chippewa Valley Technical College and the WI Department of Workforce Development. Those who receive the NCRC are being recognized by local employers who are a part of the Work Ready Community. Because of WRI’s work on behalf of area job seekers and employers, Eau Claire’s economy will grow even stronger.
