Financial Report 31
A LETTER FROM OUR CHAIR Eau Claire Community Foundation: The Heart of Our Community! ECCF has been busy during its first quarter century. Thanks to you, we’ve distributed more than $22 million in grants since we first opened our doors in 1997. In 2021 alone, we sent out more than 450 grants totaling almost $5 million. Now THAT’S an impact! But none of this would have been possible without your generosity. Your support made our online Grant Catalog a great success! We launched this new software, which allows donors to directly support funding requests from local nonprofits, to celebrate our upcoming 25th anniversary. So far, Grant Catalogs for two of our giving categories—Create Culture and Form Futures—have raised more than $110,000 in direct donations, AND we awarded $50,000 in bonus grants! Grant Catalogs for two more giving categories—Give Green and Offer Opportunities—will be launched in 2022. But that’s not the only 25th anniversary celebration activity going on right now. While we’re honoring our past, we’re also looking to our future by working to expand our Legacy Society. Members of this generous group help ensure ECCF’s future by designating it as a beneficiary in their estate plans. As part of this year’s celebration, we’re offering new Legacy Society members the opportunity to recommend $1,000 in grants to support the nonprofits they love! Mark your calendars for June 20, 2022, when we’ll hold our 25th Anniversary Celebration! All of us at ECCF sincerely thank you for making 25 years of support for nonprofits possible. We look forward to working with you in the future as we continue to serve our community. For Good. Forever.
WAYS TO GIVE Donate to a Fund Support existing funds through a gift of any size. You can make your gift in honor of someone important to you. Visit www.eccfwi.org for a complete list of funds.

The Eau Claire Community Foundation established the Legacy Society to recognize its members who have made provisions in their estate plans to provide a gift to ECCF for the causes they care about the most. Legacy Society Initiative After serving the Eau Claire area for a quarter century, ECCF has a lot to celebrate! But while we’re honoring our past, we’re also looking to our future by working to expand our Legacy Society. By providing for a gift to ECCF in their estate plans, Legacy Society members play a vital role in ensuring that ECCF can continue supporting nonprofits for years to come. As part of our 25th Anniversary celebration, we’re working to add at least one new Legacy Society member for each year we’ve been around. These new members’ generosity will not only benefit the community in the future—its impact will begin right away! New Legacy Society members have the opportunity to recommend ECCF’s Community Grant Cycle and $500 for a nonprofit of their choice. Together, Legacy Society members will help ECCF continue its work on behalf of our community through many anniversaries to come! We sincerely thank ECCF’s Founding Board of Trustees members, whose generous support made these grants possible. We also thank our Legacy Committee members, whose hard work has made this initiative possible.

ECCF’s Investment Committee during that time. The Markets hold a Family Fund at ECCF that supports a variety of worthy nonprofits. In addition, the M&J Employee Impact Fund, established by Market & Johnson, Inc, encourages community philanthropy by involving employees in funding grants and recommending their recipients. The Markets also have a tremendous impact on the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation. Dan was actively involved in establishing ECPSF, and he served as its founding Board Chair. He and Debbie have an ECPSF Fund that supports educator creativity initiatives each year. Debbie has served on ECPSF’s Golden Apple committee, and their daughter, Heather Market-Sullivan, is an active trustee on the ECPSF Board. Their daughter Heidi Bullis has also assisted Dan & Debbie in their support of various initiatives within the Hudson School District, where she resides. ECCF and ECPSF sincerely thank the Markets for building a legacy of generosity as strong and enduring as any of Market & Johnson’s structures.

Community Fund Dozens of nonprofits work hard to improve quality of life in the Eau Claire area. How do you choose which one to support? With the Community Fund, you don’t have to! A gift to this fund helps ECCF fund grant requests that address our area’s most pressing needs, whatever they may be. Your donation to the Community Fund will support grants to organizations in all four ECCF giving categories: Create Culture, Form Futures, Give Green, and Offer Opportunities. Through this fund, you can have it all, and so can our community.
Lutheran Social Services Gaining Ground: Your direct connection to what is possible Grantee Spotlight LSS’s newly adopted service delivery model (formerly known as “Positive Avenues”) makes it easier for individuals experiencing homelessness, a mental health crisis, and/or those needing additional support to gain barrier-free access to the assistance they need. By partnering with other agencies and community-based service providers, LSS Gaining Ground serves as a “one stop shop” for everything clients need. Collaborative partnerships have resulted in a unique array of available services, such as mental health support and educational programs. LSS Gaining Ground staff and partners are committed to connecting participants to what is possible!

The Chippewa Valley Railroad Foundation: Providing fun for all ages Grantee Spotlight The Chippewa Valley Railroad (CVRR) Foundation is an all-volunteer group that has been operating trains in Eau Claire's Carson Park since 1978. Passengers of all ages ride through the woods and along Half Moon Lake. Over the years, the ride has grown from an 1/8 mile single track to a 1/2 mile loop. The West Side Branch, funded by ECCF, opened in 2021. The CVRR operates two coal fired steam locomotives and one streamlined diesel locomotive. One train was built in the 1920’s and is Wisconsin's oldest operating steam locomotive! The railroad has grown to include a depot, passenger waiting platform, roundhouse with an operating turntable, and a Signal Tower (now being repaired with support from ECCF). Trains operate on Sundays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This year, over 10,000 passengers rode the trains!

John C. and Margaret M. Hagen Family Fund Unrestricted Fund Spotlight
This Unrestricted Fund was established by Karl and Linda Murch in honor of Linda’s parents, John and Margaret Hagen. It will address the greatest needs of our community by supporting ECCF’s Community Grant Cycle. Margaret (Manthie) was born in Eau Claire, and John was born in nearby Osseo. Their children are Ken, married to Bev; Linda, married to Karl; and Pete, married to Kelly. They’re also the proud grandparents of Scott, Leah, Samuel, and Justin. Completing their beautiful family is a Shih Tzu named Bernie. Each year, ECCF’s team of volunteer grant reviewers carefully evaluates grant applications that are submitted to the Community Grant Cycle. Unrestricted Funds like this one allow them the flexibility to recommend grant funding to the requests that will benefit our community the requests are in.
This Unrestricted Fund will honor John and Margaret Hagen for generations to come by supporting our local nonprofits in each year’s Community Grant Cycle.

Royal CU and ECCF Nonprofit Professional Development Fund Field of Interest Fund Spotlight
At Royal Credit Union, our core purpose is to create a positive impact in the lives we touch. We live this purpose in every community we serve, especially in the Chippewa Valley. Last year, our Community Engagement team completed a community needs assessment, which shed light on the critical needs in each community. In the Chippewa Valley, many nonprofit leaders revealed a need for professional development opportunities. In many cases, nonprofits simply did not have the financial resources to receive critical professional development. That’s why we worked with ECCF to establish the RCU and ECCF Nonprofit Professional Development Fund and Grant program. I believe this example of collaboration and giving for the community good will resonate because each of you plays a critical role in ensuring that Eau

Richard J. Ziemann Fund Donor Advised Fund Spotlight
Richard J. Ziemann is highly involved in philanthropy; not only is he active with the Lions and his church, but he supports educational opportunities for many students through the scholarship funds he holds at the Fall Creek Area Foundation. Starting a fund at the Eau Claire Community Foundation was a logical next step for expanding Richard’s philanthropic outreach. The Richard J. Ziemann Fund is Donor Advised, which allows him to recommend grants to a variety of nonprofits. “It’s extremely fulfilling to know that I can help improve lives both in my community and beyond,” explained Richard. “It’s even more fulfilling to know that through my fund, the impact will continue to benefit people in future generations. I would strongly encourage anyone considering creating their own fund to go ahead and do it.”

Dean J. Arnold Fund Designated Fund Spotlight Paul Bunyan (Wisconsin) Logging Camp Museum My grandfather and one of my childhood neighbors were founders of the Museum, along with their fellow Eau Claire Kiwanis Club members. My grandfather donated logs from his family farm to construct the Logging Camp buildings in the early 1930’s, most of which still exist. I want to remember my grandfather and my neighbor. Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation My mother, a grandmother, and an uncle were all teachers in the Eau Claire Public Schools. My uncle was a high school principal for over 30 years. I wanted to remember them with my giving. I am also a product of the Eau Claire Public Schools, and I believe Eau Claire is a wonderful place to grow up and go to school.
For years, my family has supported the Museum. In its formative years, my uncle helped provide space for it in the building that also housed the offices of L.G. Arnold Inc., the firm my grandfather founded. In August 2021, the Museum began featuring slide show videos, which I created, of Chippewa Valley infrastructure projects completed by L.G. Arnold Inc. I created them in memory and honor of the dedicated bridge, building and road builder employees of L.G. Arnold Inc.

Thank You For Your Support! Every grant from ECCF starts as a gift from someone like you. We are deeply grateful for the generous friends who have made a gift to one or more funds at ECCF. Memorials and Honorariums are an excellent way to recognize someone while also making a lasting difference in your community. To see a list of our 2021 Donors and Grant Recipients, please go to www.eccfwi.org, under the ‘Powerful Giving’ and ‘Lasting Impact’ tabs, respectively.
