Tom and Jill’s history with the Foundation is extensive. Tom and his wife Ann, who has since passed on, were quick to join the Society of Founders and were instrumental in establishing the Foundation. Tom was one of the Founding Trustees and continued his service as a Trustee until 2005. He played a major role in forming the grants program at the Foundation, serving as Chair of the Grants Committee and continuing as a Committee member until 2014. Tom is currently on the Gift Acceptance Committee.

Jill has served the Foundation in many capacities. In 2015, she completed her second term on the Board of Trustees. During her tenure, she was on the Communications and the Personnel Committees and served as the Board Liaison for the Women’s Giving Circle.

Because of their longstanding dedication to the Eau Claire Community Foundation, Jill and Tom Barland are the recipients of the 2015 Leadership Award.

Our Mission

Our Vision

We strengthen our community by offering donors opportunities to establish charitable legacies, by making grants, and by serving as a catalyst to address community needs.

Eau Claire Community Foundation will be widely recognized in the area as the leading community resource promoting philanthropy, collaboration and innovation, and building endowments.

Message from the Chair Philanthropy through your Community Foundation is thriving in the Chippewa Valley. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we achieved a new record in grants for the year. Over $697,000 was granted in 2015, which puts the total amount granted over our 18 year history at more than $4.5 million. In addition to this remarkable financial generosity, our community has demonstrated its strong philanthropic nature through a significant increase in family endowments, which will help sustain local nonprofits for generations to come. The Confluence Building Fund is another testament to the generous nature of our community. Currently, the Foundation holds approximately $5.3 million in dollars pledged to the project and has received over $188,000 in cash gifts in 2015. Another major milestone for nonprofits is the law allowing donors to give individual retirement account (IRA) assets to charity, free from federal tax, every year; this law was made permanent at the end of 2015. Prior to 2006, all lifetime distributions from IRAs were taxed—even those given to charity. This change is especially good news for community foundation donors in their 70s, and for the communities and causes they care about. As such, our donors can give far more with less. IRA distributions may be an attractive giving option for you if you are:

• Over 70½ years old and now receiving minimum IRA distributions—but do not need the extra income. • Interested in making a significant lifetime gift to impact your community.

The Eau Claire Community Foundation is ready to help you take advantage of this legislation to make gifts during your lifetime. The Foundation’s personalized service and local expertise help you address the issues and causes most important to you. We live in a generous community, and the Eau Claire Community Foundation’s role is to nurture that generosity. Thank you for helping us fulfill that role through your generous support.

Designated Named Fund Kyanna Joy Darnell Flutter Buster Fund Fund Spotlight

Seven-year-old Kyanna Joy Darnell’s life was all too brief, but her legacy lives on. Thanks to the generosity of this courageous little girl as well as to the remarkable support of her family and community, the Kyanna Joy Darnell Flutter Buster Fund will enrich the lives of hundreds of Wisconsin children. “We were inspired to create the fund because of the amazing generosity of others during a very difficult time for us,” recalled her mother, Jeni Darnell. “We found out about Kyanna’s diagnosis on December 4, 2014--a brain tumor that Kyanna decided to name ‘Flutter.’ Our approach to beating this tumor soon became dubbed ‘flutter-busting.’” While the Darnell family traveled to Spain seeking an effective treatment for Kyanna’s cancer, the community rallied to support them both emotionally and financially. “All of a sudden, the Altoona basketball team was selling Team Kyanna T-shirts to raise money for us,” said Jeni, whose husband works at Pedersen Elementary School in Altoona, where Kyanna attended second grade. Numerous fundraisers and social media campaigns quickly followed, raising thousands of dollars to offset the family’s travel and medical expenses. Community members in both Altoona and Owen-Withee participated. (The Darnells have strong connections to the Owen-Withee community; both Joe and Jeni graduated from Owen-Withee High School, and many of their friends and family members live there.) Jeni described their efforts as “an enormous rallying for an amazing little girl.” While the family was moved and humbled by extraordinary support of the community, it was Kyanna herself who provided the most remarkable examples of generosity. “Our daughter was what you would call a ‘sharer,’” explained Jeni. “Right after her diagnosis, she was thinking of what she could bring home for her big brother, Ayden. She was making drawings and crafts for the nurses who were caring for her.” That wasn’t all Kyanna did. “We gave her points for completing her therapies, and she

4

PERSONAL STORIES

could use those points to buy some toys on Amazon,” Jeni continued. “This particular day, she typed in some items to search for. She got her cart all ready, and we ordered. When the items came a few days later, we helped her get them out of the box--and she then put the items back in our hands and said they were for us. Just a few days before she died, she shopped on Amazon and was searching for items that were for us too. They were set aside until she had more points. Sadly, she never lived to see those items purchased; however, we have since done so and have a special place for them in our home.” Even while facing such an intense loss, the Darnells were determined to create some good in the midst of tragedy. “The community, family, friends, co-workers, and many people that we don’t even know rallied for Kyanna in a way that was so unexpected and amazing,” said Jeni. “The generosity of all those people is so inspiring, and that is one reason why we wanted to create this Fund.” Money raised for the Kyanna Joy Darnell Flutter Buster Fund will be used to fund outdoor activities for students in the Altoona and Owen-Withee school districts; among other things, it will support field trips, community gardens, outdoor classrooms, playground equipment, and parks. OwenWithee has already planted a butterfly garden in Kyanna’s honor and plans to expand it with support from the Fund. “There are so many things that you will learn inside a classroom to prepare you for life,” said Joe Darnell, Kyanna’s father. “However, life happens outside of the classroom too. We think that is important to remember. Kyanna also enjoyed playing outside, so designing this Fund in this way just made sense.” Nothing can ever erase the sorrow of Kyanna Joy Darnell’s passing, but as long as children are laughing on playgrounds and exploring gardens created by her Fund, nothing can ever erase the memory of her courage and generosity either.

Donor Advised Fund Koehn Family Fund Fund Spotlight

For Kevin and Lynda Koehn, philanthropy is about more than giving away money; it’s about family. They established their donor-advised Koehn Family Endowment Fund in 2013 with the goal of getting their children involved in supporting charitable causes. “We are using this fund to fuel the passions of our children,” explained Lynda. “Since we started this fund, they have made their choices. Bottom line is, it is their fund.” The family’s involvement has grown and changed over time. “The first couple years, we made a point, during a family holiday or vacation, to set aside an evening for the children and the older grandchildren to gather, talk, and make their decisions,” Lynda said. “We were available to answer any questions they had and to encourage them. Now, they are more confident and beginning to make their decisions independently. This year, they just emailed us their list of names, addresses, and amounts!” This shared charitable giving hasn’t just been good for the nonprofit recipients; it’s also strengthened bonds within the family. Kevin and Lynda “have learned a great deal about [their] children during this process,” noting that each child makes choices reflecting her or his values and life experiences. “It is so interesting to see their values through the organizations they give to,” observed Lynda. Together, the members of the Koehn family are proving that charity doesn’t just begin at home; it makes the home stronger.

The Koehn family selects a diverse array of nonprofits to support. Some of the organizations that have received grants from the Koehn Family Fund include: Asian-American Women Artists Association San Francisco, CA Catholic Charities of the Diocese of La Crosse, Sojourner House Eau Claire, WI Children’s Health Care Foundation Roseville, MN Chippewa Valley Free Clinic Eau Claire, WI Chippewa Valley Symphony Eau Claire, WI Eau Claire Interfaith Hospitality Network Eau Claire, WI HSHS Sacred Heart Foundation Eau Claire, WI The Community Table Eau Claire, WI Trinity Lutheran Church Eau Claire, WI

Donor Advised Funds M&J Employee Impact Fund Fund Spotlight

The mission of the M&J Employee Impact Fund is clear: “to inspire hope and contribute to the well-being of our communities by adding value to everything we do.” In establishing this fund, Market & Johnson has continued its longstanding encouragement of employees to become personally involved in the communities where they live and work. They’ve already spent hundreds of hours volunteering with nonprofit organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters; Rotary Clubs; Chambers of Commerce; university foundations; and many others. Market & Johnson employees are able to enhance their already impressive community support by contributing to the M&J Employee Impact Fund through payroll deductions and direct gifts. Market & Johnson then matches 50% of the employee contributions. In addition, the Fund promotes fundraising programs and events throughout the year in order to increase the money available for distribution to area nonprofit organizations. These organizations are recommended by the employees, reviewed by the Impact Fund Committee, and approved by Market & Johnson’s Board of Directors as well as the Eau Claire Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Because of this process, employees can rest assured that their dollars will be used wisely and effectively. No matter how little or large the amount, each contribution to the M&J Employee Impact Fund will help carry out the Fund’s mission by enriching the community and making a difference in the lives of others.

Brotoloc North Mental Health Fund Fund Spotlight

The Brotoloc North Mental Health Fund was established in celebration of Brotoloc North’s 50 years of serving people with physical, mental, and developmental disabilities. This Fund supports Eau Claire area nonprofits that address mental health issues and, like Brotoloc North itself, help people overcome severe life challenges and find direction for a brighter future. In addition to commemorating 50 years of successful service to Wisconsin patients, the Brotoloc North Mental Health Fund holds a special significance to the Eau Claire Community Foundation. It’s the Foundation’s first Corporate Donor Advised Fund, a fund type which encourages a business and its employees to become actively engaged in philanthropy. Through this Fund, Brotoloc North, its employees, and the organizations it supports are working to make the Eau Claire community a healthier place to live. More information about Brotoloc North can be found at www.brotoloc.com.

Giving is Easy

Choose your own giving plan by establishing a fund. Donor-Advised Funds* allow individuals, families, and businesses to be fully involved in their philanthropy. You recommend grants to your favorite nonprofits, while the Eau Claire Community Foundation handles all the paperwork and administration. These funds offer many of the same benefits as a private foundation without the burden and cost. Plus, many of our fundholders appreciate the opportunity to tap into our knowledge of local issues.

Designated Funds allow you to support your favorite nonprofit organizations forever. A single fund can support one or more charities, even specific programs of these charities. And if the organization you choose eventually ceases to exist, the Foundation will redirect the fund’s income to reflect your original charitable intent.

Field-of-Interest Funds allow you to permanently support your broad philanthropic passions. You choose your favorite interest area – such as the arts, education or health care – and a committee will recommend grants to promising projects in that area long after you’re gone.

Unrestricted Funds honor the legacy of a person or family by making grants to meet the community’s ever-changing needs in their name. The Foundation’s board and staff identify our area’s most compelling needs and award grants from your fund to the programs best suited to meet them. This is an excellent way for your family to address future challenges in the community.

Agency Endowment Funds generate a predictable stream of income for your nonprofit while the rest of your investment grows in perpetuity – so you can do good forever. Endowments may also attract donors who prefer to fund their organizations permanently rather than just through annual giving. * Converting over a private foundation into a donor advised fund can help you avoid burdensome and costly administration while continuing your charitable purpose forever. The Foundation’s 501(c) (3) tax-exempt status results in greater tax benefits and no mandatory payouts.

Giving Later

Your planned giving ensures the future. Bequests left via will or trust can help you reduce your estate taxes while supporting your community forever. Charitable Gift Annuities offer you stable, secure income while giving you an immediate tax deduction for a portion of your gift. Charitable Lead Trusts may enable you to transfer appreciating assets to family members tax-free while making gifts to your fund in the interim.

Charitable Remainder Annuity Trusts offer you predictable income and an immediate tax deduction for a portion of your gift. They are invested and managed separately, and you avoid all capital gains tax on any appreciated assets you contribute to them. They also reduce your estate tax liability.

Life Insurance allows you to make a significant charitable impact at very little cost. You can name your fund as a beneficiary and give later. You can also donate an existing policy and take an immediate tax deduction.

Retirement Plans, when passed to an heir, are quickly depleted by double taxation. Instead, you can name your fund at the Eau Claire Community Foundation as the beneficiary and avoid taxes, leave more to your family, and preserve your hard-earned assets for the good of your community. The Eau Claire Community Foundation does not offer legal advice to individuals regarding their estate plans. We encourage donors considering a bequest to the Foundation to work with their legal and financial advisors.

Create Culture

$21,304

Grants in the Create Culture category support programs and organizations that enhance the quality of life in our community through music, visual arts, performing arts, and/or museums.

Chippewa Valley Theater Guild Improvements to the Grand Theatre

The Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild is a volunteer-driven community theatre serving the greater Eau Claire area since 1981. The Theatre Guild develops, encourages, and promotes opportunities for community members of all ages to experience live theatre arts, whether on stage, back stage, behind the scenes, in the audience, or in a classroom. The Theatre Guild produces Broadway musicals, plays, and children’s shows throughout the year. In addition, the organization provides classes and workshops for children ages 4-18, including a summer drama camp and a Shakespeare workshop for teens. These classes give kids the opportunity to explore all aspects of theatre production in a nurturing environment. They receive fun, handson experience making sets, creating props, designing costumes, and building their acting and communication skills. Classes are designed to teach kids new skills, help them develop existing talents and confidence, and give them an opportunity to shine and be respected. The Theatre Guild also has outreach programs, including the Golden Trunk Players, a group of high school and college students performing for and with small children throughout the summer at libraries, daycares and community events. One of the biggest events the Theatre Guild produces is their annual Fairytale Ball – an evening for families with young children that provides entertainment, horse-drawn carriage rides, food, games, activities, and dancing with storybook characters. The Guild also hosts special events like the Chippewa Valley Book Festival’s Young Writer’s Showcase, the YMCA’s Youth Rep shows, training programs through local law enforcement, fundraisers, and all-ages concerts. The Grand Theatre, home to the Theatre Guild, plays an important role in the organization. The building houses rehearsal space, a box office, classrooms/meeting space, and a theatre. We are grateful to the Eau Claire Community Foundation for providing financial assistance in helping the organization purchase new theatre seating, a new air conditioning unit for the auditorium, and a new roof to replace the 50-year old predecessor. The Theatre Guild is celebrating their 35th Anniversary and looks forward to another 35 years serving the community. You can explore their website at www.cvtg.org.

Eau Claire County Humane Association Pet Transitional Life Program

The mission of the Eau Claire County Humane Association (ECCHA) is to be a voice for all animals by providing education; resources and support for the community; compassionate care for homeless animals until they can be placed in forever homes; and coordination with other organizations to promote animal welfare. ECCHA is very active throughout the Chippewa Valley through educating children, bringing the community together with fundraisers, and hosting pet-friendly events. It doesn’t receive government funding, instead relying on donations from generous supporters in order to fulfill its mission. These donations allowed ECCHA to reunite 394 animals with their owners and find forever homes for an additional 842 animals during 2014. Through the efforts of its dedicated staff, numerous foster families, hundreds of volunteers, and the services of a Humane Officer, ECCHA is able to improve the lives of not only the animals in its care, but the people who love them as well.

By delivering pet supplies to the homes of individuals who are unable leave their homes on a regular basis, ECCHA’s We All Love Our Pets (WALOP) program allows these individuals to keep what are sometimes the only families they have. Through the Pet Transitional Living Program (PTLP) in coordination with Bolton Refuge House Inc., ECCHA assists victims of domestic violence by providing temporary shelter for their furry members of the family. According to the Director of the Animal Safehouse Program, Patti Oppelt, “One in four victims [of domestic violence] said that she stayed with the abuser because she feared leaving the pet behind.” The PTLP program was sustainable in 2015 through grant funding from the Eau Claire Community Foundation. By supporting the Eau Claire County Humane Association, you can help save lives and help those who cannot speak find their forever homes. Please visit the ECCHA website at www.eccha.org if you’d like to learn more.

$290,741

Grants in the Form Futures category fund programs that enhance learning opportunities for children and adults in the Eau Claire area. Form Futures grants may also provide community development opportunities.

Children’s Dyslexia Center

Tablets and Hands On Experience Dyslexia Stations The Children’s Dyslexia Center of Upper Wisconsin (CDCUW) is a 100% locally funded nonprofit organization that provides free tutoring to children who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling due to dyslexia, which affects as many as 1 in 5 people. Although dyslexia is a medical diagnosis, it’s treated through educational instruction.

Thanks to such instruction, children who start the CDCUW’s program 1 to 6 grade levels behind their peers are able to graduate reading at or beyond their grade, age, and peer levels. Some students travel from as far as 2 hours away, twice a week, to receive these tutoring services. That kind of progress is remarkable, but it comes at a price. The program, which lasts an average of two years, costs approximately $5,000 per student per year. Many parents are unable to afford such a significant cost, making the CDCUW’s free services even more crucial to area students with dyslexia. The CDCUW also trains tutors in an accredited, highly effective method of teaching that uses multi-sensory, explicit, systematic, and direct instruction. Since its opening in 2011, 34 students have graduated from tutoring services provided at the center, 17 tutors have been certified, 4 advanced tutors certified, and many more are currently in training. Thanks to a grant from the Eau Claire Community Foundation, iPads have been purchased for students and tutors in order to help bridge a gap between learning and technology, as well as a way to provide students with unique and fun ways to learn. A second grant helped fund “Dyslexia Simulations,” which give participants the experience of living with dyslexia in order to create greater empathy for people who have it. These simulations are offered to various schools and individuals in the Eau Claire community. With funding from these grants and financial support from the community, the CDCUW will continue to help students with dyslexia achieve academic success. To learn more, you can visit www.wicdc.org.

Thanks to these grants, The Community Table can better connect to the greater Eau Claire community and provide meals to those who are hungry, which benefits all who live here! For more information, please visit www.thecommunitytable.org.

Initiatives Confluence Building Fund The Confluence Project is a collaborative effort to continue the successful redevelopment of downtown Eau Claire at the confluence of the Eau Claire and Chippewa Rivers. The centerpiece of the project is the Confluence Arts Center, a state-of-the-art facility to showcase Eau Claire’s vibrant arts community. The Arts Center represents a true public-private collaboration with funding through state, city and county investments, partnered with philanthropy and new market tax credits. The City of Eau Claire and Eau Claire County both have pledged resources. In August, the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents unanimously passed a resolution directing UW System President Ray Cross to work with the State of Wisconsin’s Department of Administration to implement the project. Philanthropic support is critical to reach the Confluence Campaign’s $13.5 million fundraising goal and to match a $15 million state grant. There are several ways to support the Confluence Project, including individual pledges, bundled gifts, and various naming opportunities. Please join the community in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create a place that will contribute to the cultural renaissance of downtown Eau Claire. The donations and pledges for this fund are being collected through the Eau Claire Community Foundation and UW-Eau Claire Foundation. For further information about donating, go to www.communityfortheconfluence.org.

Children’s Legacy Luncheon 2015 Legacy Luncheon The Children’s Legacy Luncheon is an annual event which honors individuals who have made a positive and long-lasting contribution to the lives of children in the Chippewa Valley through innovative work, leadership, or philanthropy. These honorees are people who exemplify selfless service for local children and families; in recognition of their contributions, they receive the “Outstanding Achievement Award” at the Children’s Legacy Luncheon. The 2015 honorees were Melinda Gardner, Donna Lehmkuhl, Pete Riley, Kathy Rulien-Bareis, Katherine Schneider, and Jodi Thesing-Ritter. The honorees recommend a $500 grant from the Eau Claire Community Foundation to a non-profit of their choice. In 2015, the recommended grantees were the Access Eau Claire Fund of the Eau Claire Community Foundation; APPLE Pregnancy Care Center; Bob’s House for Dogs; the McKinley Charter School Post-Secondary Success Fund; UW-Eau

Claire Blugold Beginnings; and UW-Eau Claire Early Childhood Literacy Intervention Program, Services, and Evaluation (ECLIPSE). The Luncheon also raises money for the Children’s Legacy Endowment Fund at the Eau Claire Community Foundation, which supports programs that serve children. The 2015 grant recipient from the Endowment Fund was the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Community Services (formerly known as the Children’s Service Society) for the purchase of digital recording equipment. This equipment will preserve the testimony of child victims of crime, preventing them from having to re-live their traumas by testifying on multiple occasions. Thanks to the support of Children’s Legacy Fund donors and the dedicated work of volunteers like these Honorees, Chippewa Valley children can thrive.

Mission

The Children’s Legacy Fund offers an opportunity for donors to make profound and lasting contributions to the health and welfare of children.

Vision

The Children’s Legacy Fund will increase awareness of issues critical to the health and welfare of children by raising funds for use in the Chippewa Valley to support initiatives on behalf of children.

Books for Babies is a national literacy program to acquaint parents of newborns with the important role that books play in the development of children. With the help of a grant from the Women’s Giving Circle, this program has been expanded locally from one week a year to an all-year program. While still in the hospital, parents are presented with a board book for babies and an envelope that includes information on the importance of reading to babies, a pamphlet about Friends of the Library, and an application for a free library card at L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire. Parents of all babies born at the Mayo Clinic Health System and Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire receive this kit. A total of about 2,000 babies are born at the two hospitals each year. By encouraging parents to read to their infants and participate in other library programs, Books for Babies helps to promote a bonding relationship between parent and child while enhancing the child’s language and cognitive development. Now that the grant year is over, the Books for Babies program is funded by donations to the Friends of L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library. It takes thousands of dollars to buy 2,000 books for the Books for Babies program, so donations are always welcome. Donations can be sent to Friends of LEPMPL, 400 Eau Claire St., Eau Claire, WI 54703.

2015 Grant Spotlight

Infant Safe Sleep Task Force Pack and Play Program Grant funding from the Women’s Giving Circle was instrumental in helping the Infant Safe Sleep Task Force purchase 50 pack ‘n plays with bassinets, as well as crib sheets, sleep sacks, and written materials for infant safe sleep educational toolkits. These tool kits use the latest scientific research to teach families how to provide an optimal sleep environment for infants; they have been provided to families with infants, care providers, and community agencies in Eau Claire County. The pack ‘n plays help ensure a safe sleep environment for infants whose parents are in financial need.

Many families in need have benefited from the pack ‘n play program. Some of those include families in homeless shelters, families with multiple children who struggle to meet day to day needs, and families with special need and premature infants. The ages of infants served range from newborn to 7 months. One parent commented, “I have seven kids and never had a place for them to sleep. They always slept with me. It helps knowing my baby is safe.” Women’s Giving Circle funding for this program has made an incredible difference for families with infants in our community.

Women’s Giving Circle Grants Approved for the 2016 Cycle Chippewa Valley Free Clinic Women’s Health and Hygiene: $5,000 ‘Women’s Health and Hygiene’ works to ensure access to health care, medications, and hygiene necessities for impoverished women. Approximately 495 women will receive health services, and 200 to 300 will receive feminine hygiene products during the program’s first year. Family Resource Center Parent Café: $3,180 The ‘Parent Café’ is a program for parents and children that includes a shared meal, social connections, resource sharing, information on a topic of interest to the group, and an opportunity for positive interactions between parents and children. It will offer a comfortable place for families to come together for networking and information. Feed My People Dairy for Kids: $5,000 The Weekend Kids’ Meal program expects to serve over 1,600 students in the Eau Claire area during the 2016 school year. Each student receives a meal bag every Friday. ‘Dairy for Kids’ will allow vouchers for a free half gallon of milk and shelf-stable cheese squares to be included in the meal bags. Literacy Volunteers Chippewa Valley Healthy Foods, Healthy Families: $5,000 ‘Healthy Foods, Healthy Families’ will support the health of low literacy families by teaching the importance of healthy eating for the entire

family. Two classes will be offered: “Family Cooking and Learning” will teach families how to plan and prepare healthy meals, and “My Plate” will help parents develop healthy eating habits in their children. Lutheran Social Services ARJ Parenting Program: $5,000 The Addiction and Restorative Justice (ARJ) Programs of Lutheran Social Services will offer parenting classes to their clients. Supporting women in their efforts to properly nurture their children will aid in breaking the intergenerational cycle of addiction and therefore positively impact their children and other family members. Trinity Equestrian Center Wounded Women’s Equine Therapy Program: $5,000 The Wounded Women Program serves clients who have experienced emotional and physical traumas. It is an efficacy based model using horses in addition to a trained therapist and equine specialist. In this program, horses and clients develop relationships while the clients learn strategies to overcome their self-destructive responses. Fostering Success Initiative at UW Stout Summer Overnight Camp: $1,243 Fostering Success at UW-Stout offers overnight and day camps geared towards college readiness for foster and homeless youth. Since it has already proven extremely successful, this grant will build on its previous accomplishments by helping seven foster and homeless youth from Eau Claire County attend the camp.

Letter from the Executive Director It has been an eventful 2015 for the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation thanks to you! We are proud to be a supporting organization of the Eau Claire Community Foundation. We have a dedicated focus to secure support for the exceptional public education system in our community. Celebrations: In September, we celebrated the dedication of our Founding Partners in Education plaque at the Board of Education office. Our Founding Partners are the individuals, families, and businesses who have helped make the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation a permanent part of the Eau Claire School District through their giving. It was a moving event to celebrate the great impact that generosity has in our community. New Director: In August, I joined the Foundation following the retirement of Mary Beth Kelley-Lowe, as she and her husband take the opportunity to spend more time with family. My professional background is in fundraising. Since my husband and I attended UWEC, we are deeply passionate about and thrilled to be back in the Chippewa Valley. It is a true honor to return to Eau Claire to serve the students and teachers in our classrooms. Golden Apple Awards: On November 12, we launched our inaugural Golden Apple Awards, an exciting new partnership between the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation and local businesses. The ceremony celebrated one Golden Apple Award recipient from each of the 20 schools in the Eau Claire Area School District, each honoree selected by nominations from their peers. Recipients and schools were presented with grant funding totaling $20,000, all sponsored by generous businesses in the Chippewa Valley. See page 23 for further details on this new initiative!

Eau Claire Community Foundation Honorariums and Memorials

Honorariums and Memorials are gifts from donors for special purposes. Memorial gifts honor the memory of a friend or loved one who has passed away. An Honorarium is a gift from a donor to recognize an event, a special living person, or a significant occasion. Memorials and Honorariums create a lasting legacy to the honored person or event, because they serve a charitable purpose into perpetuity.

Donors of Memorials or Honorariums can designate their gift to a specific fund held at the Eau Claire Community Foundation, or the gift can be placed in the Community Fund, an unrestricted fund that is used for granting for the greatest needs of the community. Gifts can also be designated for our operations to help forward our mission.

Thank You! The Eau Claire Community Foundation and the Eau Claire Public Schools Foundation would like to thank everyone who so generously contributed to our funds this year. Thanks to these benefactors, our schools and nonprofit organizations will be strengthened for years to come.

We strive for accuracy when compiling this list, but errors are always possible, and we regret any we may have made. If you notice inaccurate information, contact us so we can correct it in future publications. Because some donors prefer to remain anonymous, we have respected their wishes by not including their names in this list.

Although we only have space to print the names of donors who contributed $250 or more in 2015, we want everyone who gave to know how much we appreciate their generosity. Working together, we are making an impact

For Good. For Eau Claire. For Ever.
