First Impressions: Colourful street front café in the heart of Takaka. Ambience: Friendly cosy and casual during the day, a warm fire inside whenever it’s chilly or wet. In the evenings they light candles and offer a full restaurant experience. There is always a local artist’s exhibition in the building which changes regularly. They have live music every week and an often sunny and sheltered garden out the back. Food Style: Italian inspired. Golden Bay’s finest and freshest local ingredients are utilised to fill the cabinet daily. They have very accommodating breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. All day famous pizzas, fresh pastas, burritos, salads and more. The drink selection ranges from the best of the local sodas and exquisite smoothies to tap beer and fine wines and of course if you like coffee then you had better try theirs! Open: 9am-9pm, Mon-Sat. First Impressions: Nature comes to the fore at the Brigand Café Bar! Through the big steel gates you will discover a brush fenced and decked area with a boulder water fountain, hewn macrocarpa tables, native ferns and lush foliage. Ambience: Relax, enjoy, this is hospitality Takaka style. Enjoy an open fire both inside and outside (under cover). A lovely natural environment in the summer sunshine or for cosy winter days & nights. Open mike nights (every Thurs) hosted by Ron Valente aka Gypsy Pickers - a fun-packed night. Food Style: Try a light meal like one of the salads or the ever popular open sandwiches. The spare ribs are huge, and famous far and wide, as is the generous sirloin steak. Fresh fish of the day, tempting vegetarian treats, homemade desserts . . . the choice is impressive and the menu makes the most of fresh local produce. Well stocked bar with boutique and tap beers, regional wines, numerous spirits and liqueurs, plus non-alcoholic drinks. Open: Summer: 7 days 10am-late.
