YEPPOON'S new highway "Welcome" sign will be ready soon.

It's a Yeppoon Lions Club project costing thousands of dollars.

The sign six metres high is being erected on a small reserve left of the new highway at the top of the hill overlooking Yeppoon, where the old Rockhampton Road meets the highway.

Lions Club President Mario Cresta said the sign "Welcome to Yeppoon" was shaped like two sails, giving the illusion of a moving yacht.

He said the club decided its "Welcome" sign should be in keeping with the sails image set at Yeppoon's Tourist Information Centre at Fig Tree Creek.

Mr Cresta said the sign would cost several thousand dollars, but final figures were not yet available.

The plan provides for night illumination of the sails, and pole will be attached to the front sail for the flying of the national flag on appropriate days.

All Yeppoon service cLubs are being invited to attach their Signs arrangement with Yeppoon Lions Club for a small fee to be decided when construction costs are known.

The new Lions sign was designed by Graham Scott of Kinhill Cameron McNamara, Engineers.

Co-ordination and•construction was in the hands of the Alexander Bros, Yeppoon builders, with manual help from Yeppoon Lions.

Mr Cresta said the club was very grateful to the Transport Department for making the hilltop site available, and also to Member for Broadsound, Jim Pearce, for his help.

Hack and pony day on July 6

THE Yeppoon Hack and Pony Club is holding an official one day event at their club grounds on•Rockhampton Road just past the Golf course on Saturday July 6.

It begins at 8.30am.A kiosk will be open all day and the public is most welcome to an exciting day of horse events.Admission is free.

There are three phases to a one day event:the elegant riding of dressage, then the rugged and challenging cross-country, and then the excitement and skills of show jumping.

It is a real test of the horse to be able to complete the three phases.

Yeppoon Pony Club members have been working hard on the cross-country course over the past few months.

It has been extended by more than one kilometre, bringing it to 3.2 km.

Three brand new jumps have been built one of them a spectacular slide into water which will challenge many horses and riders.

This jump will not be ridden until the day of the one day event.

There will also be an official photographer on hand to capture all the highlights of the day.

THE Australia Day Citizen Awards are being expanded with the inclusion of the Event of the Year Award.

Like its companion awards, it recognises outstanding contributions to the community each year to December 31.

Director of the Australia Day Council, Jim Northcott:"In small rural communities, the Event of the Year could range from the first football premiership in 20 years, to a pioneer family reunion.

"Cities, suburbs and regional centres with broader scope can be more adventurous in their selection."

Mr NortHcott said the object of the new award was to have a community reflect on its achievements and feel good about them.

"We envisage nominations will be called around October with the announcement being made at a special function - on or near Australia Day. He said the involvement of groups and committees could only add to the quality of the celebrations.

NINETEEN enthusiastic children turned up at the Keppel Bay Shell Club's hall in Whitman Street for the junior get-together an hour before the club's monthly meeting.

Most bought food for their evening meal.

They were able to view the shells on display, talk about their own shells and get books from the club's library.

Some of the, children will be exhibiting their shells at the Shell show on July 13-14.

Quite a few new Junior members were enrolled.

After the Junior meeting, members discussed the programme for the Shell Show and decided to have dinner together on the Sunday night of the show.

A bus has been booked for a tour of local attractions on July 15.

A shelling outing has been organised for juniors on Sunday June 23, starting with a picnic lunch at the Causeway 11.30, then on to Kinka Beach.

The lucky new members for the night were Yvonne and Graeme Toft from Western Australia. Competition winners were Glen Munro and Jean Offord.

Robert Campbell where are you?

LIVINGSTONE Shire Council received a letter from James Campbell of Cheshire, England, requesting information about his brother, Robert, who lived in Yeppoon in 1925.

Council asked if the letter could be published to assist Mr Campbell in his search.

MY brother lived in Yeppoon a long time ago. I am 78 and he was three years older than I was. I remember receiving a letter from him in 1925. He had emigrated and he was around 18 at the time.

I remember the contents of the letter when he said he intended buying a sulky, seemingly a horse and cart. He may have left Yeppoon years ago and then again he may have settled in the area.

I've written letters to the town hall in Rockhampton, but I've never received any reply.

My brother's name was Robert Campbell. If any anyone in Yeppoon knew of him, maybe they can write me a letter. He may be dead by now, but it would be satisfying to hear of him should someone in Yeppoon have known him in the past.

Distinction between humans and animals DON'T you see the distinction between human and other animal involvement in the circus, Kevin Wood? (Capricorn Coast Mirror, June 7).

For now, let us stick to the matter at hand circus animals; not vegetarianism, not domestic animals, not leather shoes or Akubra hats!

The trapeze artist swings high above the crowd with breathtaking timing.

It is a conscious choice. The tightrope walker has incredible balancing ability. It is a conscious choice. The clowns have a most desirous gift in making people laugh. They have made a conscious choice.

The animals are caged most of their circus lives. It is not their choice!

The animals experience intense anxiety, depression and frustration because they are denied freedom;it is not their choice!

Humans choose to be active participants and derive pleasure and satisfaction from their jobs.

Re the Letter by Kevin Wood(Capricorn . ):Mr Wood, it is my opinCoast Mirror, June 7 ion that unfortunately you have missed the message expressed by M Knowles in opposition to the use of animals in circus acts(Mirror 31 May).

Let's begin with the human performers that work in circuses.

These talented people CHOOSE to partake in their acts, the animals have no choice.

It is my belief that all, creatures, be they human or animal, deserve the right to freedom and humane treatment.

Having studied the facts, it is clear to me that these circus animals are denied these very basic rights.

Have you ever thoroughly, and with an open mind, explored the conditions of these circus animals?

Certainly there can be nothing humane about being forced to jump through hoops or stand on two paws, especially if you are a lion.

Please take a moment to consider how you would feel and react to being removed from your. home, then honed to perform acts to amuse others, and then, if that is not bad enough, your nights are spent behind bars.

This I should think you would find repugnant.

The implication that the vein of the letter in question was to suggest people refrain from enjoying themselves is absurd.

There is no doubt animals bring immense comfort and joy to a great many people, myself included.

Circuses are not above reproach Mr Wood.The message was clear:animals have rights and feelings also.They should not have the right to a life free from cruelty taken from them.

So Mr Wood, before you label others as "grumps" pleasetake your head out of the sand and be thankful there are people such as M Knowleswho care enough about these issues to put pen to paper.

Member should support his area I WOULD woudd like to comment on the work of Jim Pearce, our representative at the State Parliament.

I am of the opinion a local member's work consists of two main areas:1-to support his government in matters of State affairs and policy;2-to foster and encourage development in his own constituency, physical development in infrastructure, to assist in the provision of jobs for as many people as possible, development in the academics and learning in all areas, the development of cultural and moral affairs within the electorate and to make every effort to obtain his fair share of the taxation cake in competition with, ot her members of his government.

There are many other areas, but this will do for a start.

The following criticism and questions are meant in a positive way and are not a personal attack on Mr Pearce.

In the matter of the TAFE facility on the Coast, if you use the same criteria of running at a loss in all government departments, most of them would close down: railways, health, education in general, Department of Harbours and Marine, boating patrol, National Parks and Wild Life Service etc.

Would it not have been more in keeping for our local Member of Parliament to resist closing this facility and to make more effort to make it work?

The much criticised four-lane highway from Rockhampton to Yeppoon, would it not have better for the coastal area if this highway had been completed?

I would venture to say benefits would come to the coast in many ways, becoming a dormit ory and recreation area for Rockhampton and surrounds.

In the matter of daylight saving, did Mr Pearce argue against this decision at State Conference, and did he vote against it?

The Causeway Lake, probably the best area on the coast for family fun in the water:do vou try to get the past good work finished, dredging etc or have you given up on this?

In these hard times what help have you given to get the Rosslyn Bay Marina up and going?

They surely must need help and encouragement from our Local Member.

I will stop now and look farward with interest to your comments on these matters.

North Keppel sale...wake up Aust.

IT was unsettling to read of the pending sale of the North Keppel development by the Macquarie Bank.

Of course, we don't know the circumstances of the pending sale, and nor we should. But as a generalisation, I wonder what Australia would be like today if. it was not for the hard work, vision and some entrepreneurial spirit by some who helped develop our once great country.

To further generalise, where would North Keppel development be today if the rules were not changed by a new State Government or the conservationists had been more sensible or the

Federal Government had not given us the recession we had to have.

Maybe the development would be up and running, employing people and paying its way.

In closing, I can only ask what vision have banks, governments and conservationists shown in developing our country. Their only foresight has been to rip off developers by high interest, charges and fees, taxes and mountains of red tape.

Australia, wake up. Kill the entrepreneurial spirit and you kill jobs and the economy.

Thanks to boat show organisers I TAKE this opportunity to thank the organisers of the South Pacific International Boat Show and Leisuretime Expo - Terry Smith and Mike Lee. They not only provided me with a means to continue my travels of Australia, they also gave me the chance to see real teamwork in action.

The enthusiasm and vigour displayed by these two gentlemen inspired all the people working for them and made the weekend a lot of fun.

Capricorn Coast Mirror June 14 - June.20, 1991• - 13 JUNE is the month of the 'Rose' and so it was fitting that the .centre-piece of the colourful display of blooms supplied by Ann Nugent, Marge Cornell and Alex Ogilvie which graced the stage front of Yeppoon Town Hall at Tues( ty's Yeppoon Pensioners League social was a `-6ouquet of beautiful roses given by member Merle Walker.

And the colour flowed over to the concert floor when compere Marge Cornell announced the arrival of an itinerant Scotsman who, dressed in the tartan of the Lawn Clan, marched on to the town hall stage playing 'Scotland the Brave' on a tin whistle.

In true Scots manner, he marched down the steps and into the hall playing the Scot air, which was truly a clever act, and a true mimicry of the bagpipes. It is hoped the artist, Arthur Lawn, will repeat the act. And his costume ... a credit to wife Gwen.

SUZY'S CAPRICORN COASTLINE The raffle table resembled a fruit stall with fruit and vegetable trays given by Dick and Betty Tyrer, Chris Newton, Millie Hawkswell, Ellie Aspin all, Vi Chenana and the league. They were won by Alma Martin, Fay Jennings, Wilma Lind, Norma Melvin, Stella Lubach and Tom Poole.

Compere Marge Cornell extended birthday wishes to Phyl Shepherd, Dot Close, Lil Gardiner, Marie Hoddy, Tom Devantier, George Bardrick and Fred Leader.

And congratulations were extended to Fred and Sue Leader who will celebrate 50 years of marriage on Friday,•June 21.

Lucky door numbers were held by Fay Jennings, Mary Ramsden, Evie Benson, Gert Mar-

combe, Molly Bacon, Sue Smith, Tony Ceff and George Bardrick.

Wilma Lind and Tony Ceff played a presocial medley of popular numbers and Wilma played for the community song sessions and for the dances which interspersed the afternoon's programme.

With Lynda Leech as conductress, the singing group The Entertainers pleasingly sang a medley and Lynda contributed a duo which included the lovely 'Sally'. Lynda is going on an interstate holiday and will be back at Yeppoon socials in September.

Marge Cornell had a busy afternoon. She partnered Arthur Ceff and Arthur Lawn in piano saxophone medleys, was accompanist for vio-

linist Tony Ceff, accompanied several of the afternoon's soloists and, with Arthur Lawn as accompanist, sang a duo of songs.

Visitors Alec Bacon of Emu Park and Doreen Svensen, Rockhampton, sang popular melodies and sisters Ruby Harris and Dot Close, Sarah Hall, Alf Marcombe, newcomer Gordon Melvin and Bill Shuttlewood also contributed solos.

Yodelling is always a popular item and Ivy Mallory is a pleasing exponent of the art. She received loud applause for her two numbers.

Button accordionist Bob Carmichael was back on Tuesday and his offering was well received.

Before the start of the social, those present stood in silence to the memory of league member Kerry De Graaf, who was buried that morning. Kerry was a regular attender at Yeppoon pensioner socials.

Golfers support Junior League YEPPOON Junior Rugby League Football Club held its chief fund-raising venture, the Businessmen's Golf Day at the Yeppoon Golf Course on June 6.

A total of 74 golfers took part. making it a very successful event.

87-year-old patron celebrates PATRON Dick Brown. 87 years young. celebrated his birthday at the Emu Park Bowls Club last Sunday.

Dick provided trophies and raffles very much appreciated by all the bowlers, and had his own special way of selecting the teams and scoring. The whole event was a great success.

Dick had his sister Myrtle. her husband Jack and their daughter Heather and son-in-law Ray with him for the day. There was a lot of laughter on rink seven - and good bowling too.

Champion driver Lew Tickner and his team Moya Devine. George Cliffe and Ivy Cadman scored 15 ends but lost the game to Marie Lynam. T Clark.

Mary Peacock and Leon Heath. However top team of the day was Marje Wilson. Graeme Tasker. Paul Tasker and Brian Heath with a score of 36 points.

Holiday sports Ross Ck boundary for bowlers CAPCOAST Indoor Sports will again run its holiday programme - but only two days a week this time.

Times: Thursday and Friday June 20-21 and Thursday and Friday June 27-28.

Cost:S5 per child.Ages:8-15 years.Times:10am to 4 pm.Limit 35 children.

We had a very successful programme during the Christmas holidays which included four sports cricket. netball, volleyball and soccer.

We look forward to having a wonderful programme again this time.

YEPPOON Bowls Club contested a Norths v Souths contest with Ross Creek being the boundary last Monday.

It was a beautiful day and we had a full green and played two rounds of 12 ends of Mixed fours.

Souths were the victors on the day. storing 180 while Norths scored 156.

Afternoon tea was a success thanks to Elinor Batts making the scones. of which I am told there were plenty.

the Norths winners were Jill Hoare. Shirley Ziebicki, Bill Bond and Keith Cruickshank.

In the semi-final of the club triples, Bert Rial, Bob Bird and Frazer Freeman won their way to the final defeating Key Thompson, Barry Atkinson and Ian Clark 34-14.

The semi of the graded fours saw Clarry Hinton in top form with his up shots winning 22-12.

Clarry played with Bob Glennie, Nathan Greig, Col Campbell and their opposition was Doug Mooney. Ian Rose, Les Taylor and Frank O'Brien.

Harry McNamara. Jack Hoare and George Hillier 23 defeated Roy Cain, Doug Mooney and Graham McCosker 17. Harry was 11 on the board before Graham started.

In the pairs, Clarry Hinton and Col Campbell started well then they got stuck on 11 and Keigh Cruickshank and Frank Evans went from 11-6 down to win 22-13.

In the mixed pairs the Stewart& Marj and Mo. fell over the line against May Baglow and Graham McCosker 20-19.

In the other game, Marj Bierwirth and Frank O'Brien won their way to the final at the expense of Elsie and Steve Hinton 32-12.

In the Veterans Bill Fotheringham and Eric Wilson defeated Dave Copeland and Max Hutton 26-20. Gordon MacKenzie and Frank Birkett 24 won from Eddie Engel and Bill Bond 16.

Alf Schofield and Les Taylor were defeated by Roy Cain and Eric Austin 29-8.

The last of the drivers saw Dick Sinclair 19.

This competition is due to finish next Saturdayso it seems that Mal McKellar will be the winner and we will need a play-off to find out who is second.

Keppel Bay sailor wins in the Fast Lane KEPPEL Bay Sailing Club's lightweight flier Fast Lane (Phil McKone) won the Trailable Yacht State Handicap Title at Bundaberg on the Queen's Birthday weekend.

In a fleet of 29 yachts, competition from South Queensland top gun boats Quicksilver, Zoro, Whitewash, Front Runner and Huntsman was hot for the regatta. The speed of the top six boats was even with the result separated by only a couple of minutes.

Fast Lane was the only CQ entrant and with her crew of Phil McKone, Ian Groves, Rob Tranent, Barry Semple and Greg Ellis proved their boat preparation and boat handling were a good match for the southern competitions.

"Preparations for the titles have been very important," Fast Lane owner Phil McKone said. "Ian, Rob, Barry and myself concentrated on improving boat han• dling, rig tuning and race teamwork.

"Greg Ellis of Manders Sails concentrated on sail power using the latest technology computer designs, hitech mylar-kevlar sail materials and sail handling ding the race."

Keppel Bay Sailing Club commodore Rob Tranent said the title result proved another boost for CQ yachting. Keppel Bay Sailing Club will apply to the Queensland Yachting Association to host the 1992 titles.

"We aim to attract trailable yachts from north and south Queensland and know we can provide top class conditions for major yachting events," he said.

Records set at Brookes, Bunny boast bird badges Basketball notes quash finals RECORDS were set at the Capricorn Coast Squash grand finals played on Tuesday night at the Capricorn Coast Squash Centre.

The minor premiers failed in all grades with the B grade premiers missing the play-off completely. B Grade Magpies' captain Mick Teys set a personal record by winning his first team trophy in 15 years of squash competition.

Mick's Magpies, from second place on the points ladder, won by the slimmest of margins from That and a Bit More, three rubbers each, 12 games each, 159 points to 158.

That and a Bit More knocked out the minor premiers in the preliminary finals. Magpies players were Mick Teys, Peter Trotter, Melinda Ganter, John Mills and Eric Eddyned.

In the Ladies Only competition, Electrolytes, from position two, defeated minor premiers WIDL's, eight games to six. The winning team was Joyce Dooley, Mary Schick, Sharon Ryan and Jan Knight.

A grade was decided only one game short of the maximum possible with three of the four matches going to five and the last decided in four. Odds and Ends came from third position to defeat minor premiers, Saints and Sinners, 11 games to eight.

Soccer gala day Sunday, July 7 YEPPOON United Soccer Club's '1991 Gala Day' is on Sunday, July 7 at Apex Park.

Shorter game times with modified rules and a format that involves all teams and all players has been adopted. Letters will be forwarded to team managers with full details of the day with a request that players and club members be notified.

From June 3, the club is officially incorporated and a motion to proceed with drawings for the canteen/ change room building was carried at the recent meeting.

Rule changes for the under 7 age group regarding the number of players was discussed and from the ninth competition round in July 6, the maximum number of players in the field will be eight and the minimum, five.

A motion to fine team managers for non-attendance of monthly meetings was defeated and a motion requesting circulation of a newsletter advising meeting dates, news of future events and encouraging meeting attendance was carried.

Soccer is in recess for the June school holidays and the next play after tomorrow's (Saturday) is July 6.

Publicity Officer Bev Farrow says Phil Morris was the lucky raffle winner. It was a pleasant surprise to have Sylvia Jones with us again.I believe Dennis was busy out-door bowling, but we hope to see him again at Singing Ship.

The Jones'live at Elizabeth. South Australia, but are staying most of the winter in our lovely; temperate area.

Our club is saddened by the death of two members, Roy Johnson and Kerry de Graaf, and our sympathy goes to their loved ones.

Bob and Irene Defina from Paradise Point. both good bowlers, were our visitors on Saturday.

As last weekend was so busy one, with so many events on our Capricorn Coast. we were very pleased that Rhodes Watson, with his trusty camera, took the time to visit our Singing Ship Club for our great day.

Our honoured seniors. 80 years and over, were quite surprised and absolutely delighted.

They did not expect to be awarded sporting trophies, or share a large '80'celebration cake.

Unfortunately, Joy Coulter was in hospital, but Vice-President Peter Eastwood and Marie Morris were not about to let that stop Joy participating in the special day.

So it was a 'trophy on wheels, 'as loaded with a plate of goodies and Joy's engraved trophy, they motored to Yeppoon Hospital.Joy was happy and thrilled by their visit.

Back in the hall, bowlers were doing battle as 'great' prizes were at stake. In the two games played, the oldies absolutely thrashed the younger players.

As the Cock and Hen are both well into their 80s, this wasn't surprising. There were prizes for touchers and spiders.

In fact. our president prowled round awarding clever shots and Moments Like These with Minties.

Marie's competition was very entertaining.

The "Golden Oldies" all supplied baby. or teenage photos of themselves, with a few ring-ins just to confuse us. The idea was to correctly identify the bowlers.

Ruth Jones and Peter Eastwood had the top scores of seven our of 10.

To win, Ruth correctly identified a ring-in(a cute little baby boy)as bearded Ray Farrow. winning the beaut tray of fruit and vegetables and also the raffle. a lovely towel. Both prizes were donated by Marj Wilson.

Josie Gart and Marie Morris won the prizes in the Lucky•Hat competition. made and donated by Bev Farrow.

As the afternoon tea party drew to a close.

Trevor addressed the club saying it was time we honoured our older members in such a positive way.

He said that without these stalwart members. members may not have their club today. as they were mostly long-term members, with Phil, Ivy and Lil as foundation members.

Phil Morris was the first to receive her t rophy and although Phil said she'd just eaten too many rum balls, thanked members and said:"May God Bless You All." Margaret Bunny also thanked the club.

Trevorwas pleased to hand Margaret her trophy. remarking how he always wins when Margaret does the marking. Not so when Eva Hogan or Dors do that job!

Then it was Josie Gart's turn. Trevor stating(what we all know)that Josie has bowled better than ever since her hip fracture.Josie's face was radiant as she replied, saying she was overwhelmed, and thanked everyone very much.

Edith's friends all thought she couldn't have a lovelier smile.

Edie showed us we were wrong that afternoon. as she too thanked us all very much for our efforts and told us we were a wonderful crowd.

Eric Bunny was the sixth bowler to receive a Singing Ship Trophy that afternoon.

Trevor praised Eric's bowling. saying the -Cock of the Walk"is the most improved bowler in the club.

Responding for Margaret and himself, Eric thanked the club very sincerely.

Next came Fred Congerton.Fred(sometimes called "fearless")was nicknamed "Twinkle-Toes" on Saturday because earlier he'd tripped the light fantastic round the floor with Marian St ratford(also flirting with the ladies).

He exclaimed -By Gum rand. fit as a fiddle. assured us he'd be on the next trip or tour.

Then it was Ivy Cooper's turn.This petite player said:"Our club has been great company for me."

Lil also gave the Singing Ship club her thanks. and like Ivy. said she hoped for another two decades of bowling.

THE Under 16 Boys'team competed in the Junior carnival at Rockhampton during the long weekend, playing against teams from throughout Central Qeensland.

They made it to the finals but lost to Panthers Buckets.It was a good effort.

Thanks must go to Janelle Scott and Richard Caulfield for coaching them.

The Veterans travelled to Mackay for their annual carnival.

They had four games. won three - and just missed out on the finals.It was another great effort from the coast.

Rix for Newcastle STBRENDANS College student Neil Rix will be representing Queensland at the National Under 15 Rugby League Championships in Newcastle.

JOHN RYAN is a bloke who's been a good friend to the Capricorn Coast, first as news editor of RTQ-7 when he often featured Coast items in the nightly news and, more recently, with his own business, QNTV. This is one of those businesses that has endless possibilities. John Ryan, who really knows the news scene, has taken his camera into many situations that have earned him praise from all four networks. But forget the news for a moment ... the one thing he really does well is what could be termed "corporate videos". He made one for the Capricorn Coast Mirror for the 1988 Trade Fair and, despite it being a lastminute idea put together over three nights in between putting out the paper, it was a great success. The reason for this "plug" is pretty simple ... John will be spending some time on the Coast in the new few weeks (not full-time, just part-time) and anyone thinking about a personalised video would be wise to think about him. He has a lot of footage on file and that can make a big difference when putting the finished product together. Anyway, he will be at the M irror on Wednesdays for a while so, if you're interested, give him a ring.

•• • BY the way, John Ryan, hard-bitten journo from way back, has a Sydney Silky Terrier as a canine companion that rarely leaves his side. The terrier, named Charlie, was one of the many, many dogs due to be destroyed at Charleville after last year's floods. The dogs, separated from their owners by floodwaters and with little hope of being reunited, were at the stage where they were becoming a nuisance. John Ryan, of flinty visage, saw the terrier and decided at least one should be saved. The name, Charlie, naturally came from Charleville!

Anyway, Wednesday night, as always, he phoned to ask if anyone had seen the game. As usual, no-one owned up, everyone had been too busy to turn on the TV, and soon. Anyway, Bob, in the Lightning Ridge pub with coins running out, admitted it had been a good game. Oh well, Bob, there's always next year!!!

•• • THE Chev Show certainly dragged in the people, obviously many of whom are fans of the "General" ... but did you see the collection of beautifully-restored Ford Zephyrs lined up on Sunday morning at Stapleton Park? Now there's a vehicle that has a solid backing from people who reckon nothing could touch them ... but they never had a chance because they were up against The General's Holden. You know, choice may have been limited back in the '60s but once you made your choice you had a car that earned instant loyalty. In those days you were either Holden, Ford or Valiant ... and nothing made you change your mind (at least, not publicly)!!! Do today's cars create the same intense feelings in their owners, or, with so many looking the same, are they just transport?

LIVINGSTONE Shire Council comes in for a few brickbats from time to time but here's a bouquet that, surely, no-one could complain about ... congratulations on the amount of work th. went into mowing the sides of roads and parks oi the Coast for the long weekend's multitude of activities. The clean-up timing, like the weather, was perfect. The place looked neat, looked as if someone cared, and must have made a good impression on the thousands who came from outof-town!

•• • THE RAAF display at the Boat Show was a stunner ... especially for people interested in today's and yesterday's aircraft. For those with an interest in yesterday, the Ipswich and West Moreton Region Aviation Museum would like any memorabilia you might have that involves flight ... not just RAAF aircraft. The museum probably wouldn't mind someone whipping up a million or two in donations to (pardon the pun) get the show off the ground, but right now, the members wouldprefer donations of old propellors, parts, pictures, whatever ... as long as it involves aviation. Who are the members? Well, all those chaps on the RAAF stand, when only slightly pressed, whipped out business cards giving the museum's phone numbers ... Ipswich 2946938 or 2946047. GOLFING FINAL STAGE one men's and women's finals of the 1991 Capricorn International Resort's Golfer of the Year tournament is in Sunday, June 23 and is sponsored by Carlton United Breweries.

Golf manager Stuart Tuns icliffe said the first five qualifying rounds had produced some great golf. He expects the June 23 finals with 46 Central Queensland golfers to be close.

"The resort's course is in top condition and is playing superbly," Mr Tunnicliffe said. "The winner of this final will play the winners of the stage two finals in December.

"The first qualifying round for stage two will be played on July 28. Any golfer with an accredited AGU handicap is eligible to play in the tournament. Golfers interested in playing can contact me, 39 0211."
