ADMIRAL KEPPEL LOGO FOR CCTO THE Capricorn Coast Tourist Organisation has adopted a new image for future marketing of Livingstone Shire. "We have stepped forward into an exciting new era," CCTO president Laurie Killeen said. "The new image has two parts. Firstly, there is a new CCTO logo which will be a vital part of all future promotion. "The logo is the 'Crown in the Jewel' of the total concept. It is a bust size likeness of Admiral Augustus Keppel, in blue and gold trimmed naval dress, including admiral's hat and cockade, worn athwartship. "The words `Keppel Bay Capricorn Coast' are an integral part of the logo. Its modular design lends itself to different forms of presentation for a variety of uses," he said. "There are 10 'Coasts' being promoted separately in Queensland under different names. Few people know all the names or even their location.
"It was essential to find a marketing image that was different. The answer was in the area's history. For too long, we have failed to recognise the Shire did not end at the water's edge. "Its location as the searoad to the Keppel Islands, as well as to the Reef has now been highlighted," Mr Killeen said. The second part of the new concept is the division of the Shire into districts ... Bays and Beaches, Byfield Forests, Coorooman/Keppel Sands, Emu Park/Zilzie, Islands and Reef, Tanby Hills, The Caves and Yeppoon. "The idea of districts will create an immediate image in the mind of the tourist of the diverse character of the Shire and its natural assets," he said. "Logos are being developed for each district. The districts provide modules to design day trips aimed at enticing tourists to stay longer. If they lack the time, it will encourage them to return to see what they missed.
"This idea also reinfbrces the natural human attribute of residents, tourist operators, attractions, cottage industries, businesses and service clubs to identify with their own district. "It will build on existing local pride and create a structure that offers equal opportunity for greater local participation and initiative," Mr Killeen said. "The past two years have brought a marked loss in income each year from the effects of the air pilots' strike and the Rockhampton flood. "The additional impact of a major recession has brought home to many the fragile nature of the local economy and its heavy reliance on tourism as its only growth industry," he said. "There is already a discernible trend people engaged in small business have recognised, that if they are to survive the long hard road which still lies ahead, they will have to exercise more initiative. • CONTINUED ON PAGE 3

LIVINGSTONE Shire Council has resolved not to back down on action taken for non-payment of rates. Shire chairman Cr Barbara Wildin said she had been directed by council at a meeting this week to issue the following press statement. "Landholders have been given a number of written advices that all rates and charges were due and payable by the due date," Cr Wildin said. "The current legal actions were initiated by the previous council following the close of the discount period in September last year." The shire clerk reported to the table that those people now confronted with the threat of having their properties sold had received: 1 A rate notice in August, 1990, stating that it was a first and final notice for rates and charges to be paid by the due date; 2 A reminder notice was then sent out on October 15, again requesting payment, failing which council would start recovery action and advise any mortgagees; 3 Plaints and summonses were issued starting in mid-December and those documents indicated what had to be paid and the time within which it should be paid; 4 Where all rates and costs listed on the plaint and summons were not paid, council, through its solicitors, obtained judgement to secure its entitlements and protect the interests of its ratepayers; 5 Where warrants of execution have been • CONTINUED ON PAGE 2

UHF now on Coast CAPRICORN Coast residents can receive all four television stations on UHF. The installation of the QTV transmitter was completed on Friday. The new service, channel 62, will allow the bulk of Coast residents to receive the 10 network programmes. Last week Sunshine announced it would be available on UHF59 and the ABC is now on channel nine. Residents should contact a reputable technician to make the change from Mt Hopeful to Meikleville Hill if they live in the areas that can receive from that direction.

$450,000 dredging work for harbour
MAJOR dredging works at the entrance channel to Rosslyn Bay Boat Harbour will start soon, according to a joint statement issued this week by Member for Broadsound Jim Pearce and Transport Minister David Hamill. Mr Pearce said the maintenance dredging project was expected to start on May 27 and would cost almost S450,000. Mr Hamill said the contract for the 14 week project had been awarded to Sydney-based dredging company Davidson Reclamations. "These works will provide reasonable depths in the navigation channel for recreational, commercial and marine safety vessels by the end of July," Mr Pearce said. "Before the western breakwater was built last year, the harbour required maintenance dredging every four years due to sediment drifting from nearby beaches. "Between 20,000 and 30,000 cubic metres of material has accumulated since the last dredging in 1987, which will be removed." Mr Hamill said offshore disposal was the only viable option for the material. "It is unfortunate this spoil is very fine marine silt and unsuitable for reclamation purposes or for beach nourishment work," he said. "The department has obtained a sea dumping permit from the Federal Department of the Arts, Sport, the Environment, Tourism and Territories. "The spoil will be pumped through a temporary pipeline to a site about one kilometre off Rosslyn Bay." Mr Hamill said the work would be done quickly and efficiently and would be a great benefit to marine vessels.
