Morning bazaar before parade A BAZAAR on Yeppoon beachfront from 9am tomorrow, Saturday, starts the programme for the last day of the 1989 Pineapple Festival. The celebrations peak at 2pm when floats for the street procession assemble in Queen Street between the intersections with Mary and Arthur Streets. GROWERS LOOKING AT COOLING FACILITY THE possibility of centralised cooling and transport for Coast fruitgrowers will be discussed at a meeting on Thursday, October 12 at Keppel Bay Sailing Club. Yeppoon Tree Fruit Growers Group is considering the possibility of establishing a centralised cooling facility for fruit and vegetable produce at Yeppoon. "The meeting on October 12 at the co-op is not just for members," spokesman Jim Edwards said. "Every grower in the area is invited. We must

have as much support as possible if it is to be successful." The meeting, organised by the growers group, starts at 7.30pm. Mr Edwards said questionnaires have been organised for growers to complete and return to Yeppoon Co-op. "We have also included a brief explanation, prepared by the DPI, on what 'pre-cooling' means and the benefits of pre-cooling to fruit and vegetable producers," he said. The questionnaire, available from members or Yeppoon co-op, is to assess the interest

among fruit and vegetable growers and the potential quantity of produce that may require pre-cooling in the facility to be available at Yeppoon. Cooling produce extends the shelf life of the product by slowing the ageing or ripening process and by slowing the development of disease. It also maintains the overall freshness of the product by reducing water loss. If anyone wants more information before the October 12 meeting, they can contact Bruce Sloper at Yeppoon Co-op.
