TOP—RATING Rotkie,4 TV SHOW TO FEATURE THE COAST THE top-rating Simon Townsend's Wonder-World will feature the Capricorn Coast Australia-wide later this year. Capricorn Coast Tourist Organisation president Bfian Hooper said this week - Simon Townsend was sending two reporters and two cameramen to Yeppoon next month to do 10 stories on the Capricorn Coast and Central Queensland. Mr Hooper said it was a terrific opportunity for the Coast to gain national television exposure. "We have the chance to give hundreds of thousand of youngsters and their parents a close-up look what the Coast has to offer," Mr Hooper said. The Wonder-World teams will be looking for stories suitable for national TV exposure. Mr Hooper said the CCTO had compiled a "starter list" of ideas but it was by no means complete. He said anyone with ideas of what they would like to see featured could contact him at 39 3841. "We want the best possible stories for this show," Mr Hooper said. "The Singing Ship should interest the TV crews because it's rare for a monument to 'sing' ... and its location overlooking the sea makes it a natural." Mr Hooper said the Singing Ship combined the different elements the TV crews would be looking for. It was in a scenic location, especially suitable for television, it was of national importance and it was "different". The story ideas are needed before June 23 when the two film crews arrive. Mr Hooper said Ansett Airlines of Australia had agreed to fly the crews to the Coast at no charge in the interests of promoting the region. Ansett's Rockhampton manager Nev Holden had had no hesitation when asked by the CCTO. CCTO members will be handling all expenses involved in the crews' stay on the Coast. "We want members to share the cost of this venture because the benefits will be felt along the whole Coast," Mr Hooper said. "Restaurants, coffee lounges, accommodation houses and entertainment centres will combine to look after the Wonder-World teams' every need." Mr Hooper said this promotion had started out as an idea by CCTO executive member Key Logan who suggested the Coast should offer the show a free holiday to be used as a competition. "That was only a month ago," he said. "We made the offer, the show's producer phoned about details and, after a quick chat, decided to come up and do 10 stories."

❑ ABOVE: There's nothing the tang of the salt air, the wind in your hair and a sunny autumn weekend to bring out the visitors to the Coast ... Colleen Brown of Canberra was one who visited Great Keppel Island on the Keppel Cat 2. The trip was part of a short break on the Coast.

onsulting engineer

LIVINGSTONE Shire Council's works and finance committeess will draw up specifications to call tenders for a consulting engineer. Councillors at this week's meeting agreed to get the specifications prepared so that council would be able to examine alternatives to the present system of having a permanent staff engineer. The decision followed a motion calling for an investigation by the finance committee into the "performance and current operating costs of the engineering department." Cr Barbara Wildin argued in favour of an independent investigation into all council departments. She said no member around the table would be able to act entirely unemotionally and in an unbiased manner and she believed ratepayers would "not begrudge" spending the necessary money to get an independent report. Cr Brian Dorey, who moved the motion calling for specifications for tender, said

council needed to be aware of the alternatives before any decision could be made. Chairman Cr Hartwig said that as a businessman he would always find out what an employee's duties and responsibilities were before he made any decision about whether the job was being done properly. "Do any of you know what the engineer's duties are?" he asked councillors. "We need to get him in here and ask for a run-down of his duties. "There's too much of them out there (the staff) and us in here (the councillors). "If we don't get the officers in here, you may as well put them off. We need them in here where we can talk to them and find out what we want to know."

Cr Jim Anderson said the finance committee's recommendation calling for a report on the performance and operating costs of the engineering department was not a "knee-jerk reaction" or an emotional reaction. "The committee was acting in a totally detached, calm and business-like way, and I am concerned at the inference of any bloodymindedness, emotion or predisposition to a conclusion. "The recommendation was designed to investigate the engineering department's performance and to look at the feasibility of alternative methods of running that department. "No decisions were made about rolling heads ... we are trying to get the facts right. In the past we have seen this council making decisions on wrong information or a paucity of information." ill CONTINUED ON PAGE 3
