Team effort wins praise Webb calls on council to acknowledge rugby victory
`
"THEY deserve the Freedom of the City," Cr Maurie Webb said on Saturday afternoon moments after Capricorn Coast Rugby Union Club's A Reserve side had won the 1984 grand final against Cities. His remark was part euphoria over the win but on Tuesday he again said it. But, while he realised such an award was not possible ("We're not a city, to start with," he said) Livingstone Shire Council should acknowledge the win in some way. "Those men were playing for the Capricorn Coast," he said. "They were not playing as individuals." Cr Webb said that was the important part that deserved recognition. "If there's one thing the Coast needs, it's teamwork," he said. "We have, plenty of individuals already, but it's teamwork that is going to make this Coast great." Cr Webb's remarks about the Cap Coast Rugby Union Club have more weight behind them because he is president of the Yeppoon Rugby League Club. He attended the rugby union grand final at Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon and was quickly over the fence to congratulate players and officials after the A Reserve side's win. "That club has only been playing for two years and has played in two grand finals," Cr Webb said. "That's quite a record and shows what the Coast can do when people pull together as a team." The Coast's sporting record could be further enhanced this weekend when three junior football teams play in grand finals against Rockhampton sides. Yeppoon Junior Australian Rules Football Club's under-13 and under-15 sides line up this morning (Saturday) at the cricket ground. For the under-13s it's the third grand final in three years. The under-15s, which lost only one game this season, have their sights set on their first premiership. Yeppoon's under-11 soccer team will be the only one representing the Capricorn Coast in the Rockhampton grand finals today. Competition is expected to be tough for all three matches and club officials are hoping for Coast supporters to attend the games and' cheer the boys to victory. Last Thursday at the Capricornia District Girls Secondary School Athletics Carnival the aggregate winner was St Ursula's College and the runner-up was Yeppoon State High. Girls from both schools have been selected to compete in the Regional Athletics Carnival in Mackay on October 6.

Trade Fair shaping up as big event
CAPRICORN Coast chamber of Commerce and Industry's Trade Fair next month is building up to .be a major Coast. attraction. Every space allocated in Yeppoon Town Hall has ben taken and the chamber is now calling on groups with bigger displays to consider taking space on the vacant land next to the town hall. This land could be used for displays such as tractors or 'vehicles. In addition, Beaman Park, in front of the town hall, will be the site for arts and crafts plus amusements. The trade fair is a chamber project designed to show people what is produced and available on the Capricorn Coast. The fair will be open on Friday night, October 12, and Saturday and Saturday night October 13 and Sunday October 14, until 3pm. It is opening both day and night so that residents and visitors will be sure to have some time free to visit the displays. Chamber vice president Pat Andersen, who started the trade fair when president, said too many people automatically thought of Rockhampton and even Brisbane when they needed something big for their home or business. "But almost everything Coast residents need can be bought on the Coast," she said. "If people would only think of their own area first they would keep their money at home and help local businesses to grow and provide 4. employment." To get across the local industry message, the trade fair is being planned with the whole • family in mind. Two bands are expected to provide "a day in the park" atmosphere on the Saturday and Sunday. The bands, one brass and one pipe, are sure to be major drawcards. They will play in Beaman Park while Beach Potters and the Capricorn Coast Society of Arts provide displays. Children will have rides and amusements provided and Emu Park Scout Group and Yeppoon State School will provide snacks and refreshments. Where-ever possible, displays by business people will 12,e operating.
