MANAGERS MINUTES WITH PAUL WRIGHT Good afternoon and a warm welcome to the players, officials and fans of Knypersley Vics. We played each other way back in October in a fixture that never nearly happened as the floodlights went out just before the kick off. Thankfully they came back on and we had a difficult encounter with them winning by a single Sol Soumare goal. Knypersley arrive on the back of a 13-3 victory against bottom side Florence last week and should be full of confidence. I am aware they have two very proven goal scorers in the squad in Sean Mountford and Leigh Skellern, so we will need to be on our game today to ensure we keep them both at bay.

Last Saturday saw us win the El Classico Hanley when we beat Hanley Town 4-0 in what in the end was a comfortable victory. We changed our shape from the previous week and in the first half we were not quite doing enough and fell to the level that Hanley wanted us to. They were, as expected very robust in the tackle shall we say just like they were in the first game. This didn’t allow us to get into any pattern of play.

At half time we had a good chat about how we would go about winning the game tactically however I felt we just needed to up the work rate by 20% and we would go on to win. Elisio Francisco was playing with a fractured thumb and in the first half was completely anonymous. Having managed Elisio for three and half years I know which buttons to press to get a reaction from him and shall we say these buttons were pressed at half time.

Within four minutes of the restart he scored an unbelievable goal beating five Hanley players before placing the ball under the keeper to make it one nil. I loved the fact he and the lads all put the finger to their lips and aimed it in my direction in response to the half time chat. He then went on and produced ten minutes of football that showed us what he is, class. The rest of the half was good as we brimmed with confidence and should have scored more than the four goals we did. I was incensed with a tackle on Mike Dunn towards the end from a Hanley player as not only could it have broken his leg, but it could have also ended his career. I was disappointed that the ref only showed a yellow card especially afterwards when he said that his linesman told him it was a red after the game. Why do we have linesman if they are not helping the ref in the middle? Dunny hopefully will be okay and available today however we will have to wait and see.

Transfer deadline day is today and this week we have signed striker Dwayne Spence from Abbey Hulton firsts.

Dwayne is someone who has been around and played at various levels of football. I tried to sign him back in November however he had just moved to Abbey from Eccleshall and wanted to give it a go there. He will definitely add something to us as we play the final third of the season.

The lads who are in possession of the shirts at the minute are certainly making it hard for the lads out of the squad with their performances however we have plenty of games and the whole squad will be needed in the next 6 weeks. I believe we can go on a run now and have a say in who wins the league as we play all the sides involved in the title race.

A couple of people I want to thank are Mick Bartley our secretary who keeps a check on everything we do, running the sevens, signing players, taking gate money and generally being a good sounding board for us management. Mick is completing his 50th season as a secretary this year and I for one know how much time he puts into the club. Thanks Bart.

CLUB INFO Eastwood Hanley Football Club are currently members of the Staffordshire County Senior League Premier Division and play at Trentmill Road. The club was established in 1946. In 1987, they joined the Northern Premier League Division One in its first season, and at their height were one of the best non-league teams in North Staffordshire rivalling Leek Town for the top position in the pyramid. Their one major honour came in 1986 when they won the Staffordshire Senior Cup. They were forced out of their Trentmill Road home in the early 1990s due to regular vandalism of the site and although they groundshared with Kidsgrove and Newcastle for a few seasons, interest in the club waned and gates decreased. The club eventually folded in 1997.

After a failed bid to revive the club in 2009, the club was re-established in 2014 when Sandford Hill Allstars adopted the name.

They subsequently joined the Staffordshire County Senior League.

MATCH REPORT Saturday 17th March 2018 Staffs County Premier League Eastwood Hanley 4 Hanley Town 0 Eastwood welcomed neighbours Hanley Town looking to follow up a victory after last week’s impressive performance against Ball Haye Green.

One change to the side with Jessy Bavanganga missing due to injury, replacing him Adam Robson in the back three.

The home side should have taken the lead on nine minutes when Tomkinson raced clear only to see his shot fumbled away for a corner. Bailey headed wide from a cross however both sides huffed and puffed with no great quality.

Hanley were happy to break the game up and not let Eastwood get into any rhythm.

H/T 0-0 The second half started and it was clear the home side had far more purpose and intent. Within three minutes Elisio Francisco picked up the ball and drove towards goal. He glided past several Hanley players before placing the ball past the advancing keeper to score what surely will be a goal of the season contender. From here on In there was only going to be one winner.

The blues were playing with the freedom and purpose of the previous week and Francisco was causing all sorts of problems. He picked the ball up on the left and swung in a tremendous cross that was met at the far post by Thomas Luquet who smashed the ball into the net to double the lead on 54 minutes.

Hanley were shell shocked as the game ebbed away from them. Heath in the Home goal was a virtual spectator however he had to be on his toes to Keep out an effort from close range.

On 73 minutes Liam Robinson broke down the left before squaring for strike partner Todd Bailey to put the ball in the net to make it 3-0.

In the 79th minute an horrendous challenge on Mike Dunn left him reeling in agony and very fortunate not to break his leg. Dunn was clearly unable to continue and as the blues had used all the subs they played out the final ten minutes with ten men.

This didn’t stop them though as Charlie Cooke broke down the left before squaring for Liam Robinson to score his third goal in two games and wrap the game up at 4-0.

Manager Paul Wright “We started today quite flat I felt. We were not moving the ball forwards quickly enough and people were waiting for someone else to do something. At half time we had a chat amongst ourselves and to be honest as soon as we kicked off the lads were back on the button. Elisio scored an unbelievable goal and then turned provider in the space of five minutes. He has so much ability it is frightening, it’s just a case of finding the consistency. He is our top scorer on 14 goals and since the turn of the year has been in fine form. I felt the challenge on Dunny was horrendous and deserved a red card not a yellow. Thankfully it looks like he has escaped serious injury.

A Brief History

The club was established as Knypersley Victoria in 1969, inheriting the Tunstall Road ground of the defunct Knypersley Football Club. They entered teams into the Staffordshire County League and the Leek & Moorlands Sunday League. However, financial difficulties forced the club to disband their Saturday side during the 1970s until they rejoined the Division One of the Staffordshire County League in 1980. In 1984 the club were founder members of the Staffordshire Senior League.They were runners-up in 1987–88 and remained in the league until joining Division One of the West Midlands (Regional) League in 1991. They won the Division One title in 1992–93, earning promotion to Division One. In 1994 Knypersley were founder members of the Midland Alliance, which took the top clubs from the West Midlands (Regional) League and the Midland Combination. In 2002 the club was renamed Biddulph Victoria. They folded at the end of the 2010–11 season after being evicted from Tunstall Road. However, the club was reformed in 2013 as Knypersley Victoria and joined Division One of the Staffordshire County Senior League. After finishing fourth in 2014–15, they were promoted to the Premier Division.

Mark Heath Heathy is a valuable member of the squad and has been for the last four years as the team have risen though the County Leagues. Skipper of the Division 2 Title winning team, Heathy always see’s the glass is half empty lol. He is without doubt one of, if not the best keeper in the league even at his ripe age. He still plays for Adderley Green on a Sunday and has given them 25 years loyal service. Manuel Nauer learnt everything he knows from the original sweeper keeper in Heathy and his range of passing is second to none. He loves nothing more than placing his bets on his phone before the game then sitting with a pint and watching them fail afterwards in the bar!!
