Welcome to “Gala 2024 – Impulse”
Eastwood has enjoyed a long-standing reputation as offering the premier enhanced arts experience among the secondary schools of the Waterloo Region. While Gala is made possible by the tremendous commitment and astonishing artistic vision that the teachers in Eastwood’s Arts programs bring daily, it is the talents and efforts of the Integrated Arts Program (IAP) students that we celebrate most! Additionally, we thank the Waterloo Region Integrated Arts Program Parents Association (WRIAPPA), and the parents/guardians of our IAP students for their tireless dedication and support in realizing this shared vision.
The energy of Eastwood’s IAP students dancing, making music, dramatizing, providing technical support, and creating exquisite visual art provides a feast for the senses that our staff and students feel privileged to witness and enjoy every day.
Thank you for attending and for sharing in this experience!

Eastwood’s Integrated Arts Program (IAP) has been helping students Find Their Art since 1987. This program, unique in the Region, receives no additional funding; relying entirely on fundraising activities for its extended needs.
To fill this gap, WRIAPPA was formed. The Waterloo Region Integrated Arts Program Parents Association is an independent group of parent volunteers who work to provide fundraising support for the program. We do this through events like the Gala, event concessions, raffles, and other activities. This work provides the teachers of the IAP with the funds needed to provide the best program possible for our students.
The Integrated Arts Program wouldn’t be possible without the support of donors and volunteers just like you.
If you’d like more information about WRIAPPA, or to volunteer with us, please contact eastwoodarts@gmail.com.

Eastwood's Integrated Arts Program is a beacon for young creatives in our community! My sincere thanks to all the Eastwood teachers and staff for their work in guiding the incredible students participating in Gala 2024, and congratulations to the nearly 300 performers, student filmmakers, and visual artists, who have worked so hard to bring IMPULSE to life!
August Swinson is an artist and member of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, currently living in Kitchener, Ontario. He graduated from the George Brown Graphic Design program in Toronto.
Working in a variety of styles he uses a mix of hand-drawn and computer-generated illustrations. August is influenced by the beauty of nature and the classic Canadian landscape. Memories of his childhood living on Scugog Island, his illustrations evoke a sense of fun, and something familiar that reminds us of a more innocent age but from a new perspective.

The visual art department, Sheena Gruber, Kaitlin Burns, Adrienne Spier, Sam GoereeEdmondson and Laura Fanthome deeply appreciate the time, care, and consideration given by Steven Restagno and August Swinson in selecting the works for the studio exhibition.
Holden Mohring is a Canadian film editor based in Toronto. After graduating from Eastwood Collegiate in 2008, he studied film production at York University, honing his skills in editing and post-production.
Since then, Holden has worked on a variety of projects, including feature films, television, documentaries, and commercial work.
Some of his recent credits include XO KittySeason 2 (Netflix), Jane (Apple TV+), an indie feature Village Keeper (TIFF 2024), and upcoming indie feature Racewalkers.

With a fond memory of his early film projects at ECI, Holden is excited to see all the talent and innovation of today’s Eastwood filmmakers and future industry professionals!
Robert Murdoch (class of 2011) is a proud alum of the Eastwood Arts Program (or whatever it’s called now), and subsequently a graduate of the York University (BFA Film Production).
He credits his time at ECI with fundamentally allowing his life and career to unfold in a positive way — mentors and friends; facilities, equipment, and resources; and an environment which allowed for technical and creative exploration. It is a pleasure for him to give back and judge the work of the students this year.

He lives in Toronto and works in the film industry as a member of the camera department. Recent credits include “It: Chapter Two” (Warner Brothers), “Locke & Key” (Netflix), “Cruel Intentions”, “Gen V”, and “The Boys” (Sony/Amazon).
Alten Wilmot is an artist and producer working in theatre, film, and dance. He is also the founder of Unwrap Theatre. Alten graduated from Eastwood in 2016, majoring in Drama, Voice, and Dance. Through Unwrap Theatre, Alten creates and produces work that supports untold stories by unheard voices for underserved communities. His artistic work has been recognized with multiple awards and financial support from all levels of government.

Alten can most recently be seen starring as Mateo in NBCUniversal’s Bring It On: Cheer or Die and creating the multidisciplinary stage show Dreaming in Colour (in collaboration with Eastwood alumni Haley Dimeck) which tours diverse community organizations in the region. www.unwraptheatre.ca
