A look Inside this Issue ..... - Letter from Principal - Foundation Update - How to Join our PTA

From our Eastvalley PTA Presidents Hi Eastvalley Families, We hope you are all having a fabulous and relaxing summer break! If you are one of our new kindergarten families or just new to our school, we want to give you a big Eastvalley welcome! This year is our school’s 50th anniversary and we have some special events planned to celebrate! We wanted to give you some information about important dates coming up soon. Our Sneak-a-Peek is Wednesday, August 4th from 2 pm - 3 pm. This is a great opportunity to get a quick glimpse of your child’s classroom and teacher before the first day of school, Thursday, August 5th. Our Parent Orientation nights will be Tuesday, August 10th for Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th and Thursday, August 12th for grades 1st, 3rd and 5th. This will be an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, discuss classroom procedures, and sign up to volunteer in the classroom. Please save the date and make arrangements for childcare prior to orientation. We are very excited to be serving you this coming school year. We truly believe that Eastvalley is a great place to be, where everyone is family. This is what sets our school apart from others. As a PTA, we try our best to provide support and resources to every student as well as the staff. The PTA needs your support year after year so that we can continue to fund the programs that foster the educational development of our children. One of many ways to help is by simply joining the PTA and becoming a member for just $5 dollars. We will offer special PTA member discounts throughout the year to show our appreciation for supporting the children and staff at Eastvalley. Most importantly, our school needs volunteers. We need YOU! You and your time will make a world of difference in a child’s life or in a teacher’s school day. We encourage you to be a part of your child’s school. Jump in! We are here for you if you have any questions. We will find something that would be a right fit for you and your schedule. We are one big family here and we want you to be a part of it with us. On behalf of the PTA, we welcome you and are looking forward to another fantastic school year. Can’t wait to see you on the first day of school, Monday, August 5th at 7:50 a.m.! Enjoy the rest of your summer.

What is The Eastvalley Elementary School Foundation (EVSF)

We’re an educational, non-profit public foundation, which raises funds to purchase technology, other equipment and resources for Eastvalley Elementary School above and beyond what the school’s limited budget can provide. The Foundation strives to enrich the educational experience for all of our Eastvalley students while instilling a lifelong passion for learning.

Last Year

Through your generous contributions, we raised more than $40,000 and enriched our students’ educational experience by purchasing or improving the following:

• • • • • • •

Gave over $7000 to teachers for classroom supplies (Parent Challenge) Bought 5 Smart Response Systems for our Smart Boards Wired the 3rd Grade Trailers for Internet Connectivity Improved the younger playground with new fencing and mulch Purchased 19 new listening centers for K-2 Upgraded 38 in-class computer headphones to new ones with microphones Bought 6 Document Cameras, one for each grade level

Our Fundraising Focus

We raise funds through patron donations and family-oriented activities or products, such as Family Movie Night, Sally Foster, engraved bricks, restaurant spirit nights and our After School Enrichment Programs. The Eastvalley Foundation also seeks funds through educational grants, employee-matching grants and endowments.

Why support both the Foundation and PTA?

We work together to support different needs for Eastvalley. The Foundation’s structure allows us to spend funds raised on capital expenditures without limitation by national PTA rules. The PTA focuses on coordinating important programs and parental involvement to help keep our school operating at its best. Both organizations need your help to keep Eastvalley strong and we both need your donations and volunteer efforts.

Help Us Help Eastvalley

If you are interested in helping to raise funds for Eastvalley Elementary, have some great ideas or fund raising experience, we would love to hear from you. Specifically, we are looking for a Sally Foster Co-Chair, an Enrichment Program Coordinator, a Vice President and a Secretary-elect, but we will gladly take any help you can provide! Please contact Liz Gainsford at 770-565-4300 or lgainsford@eastvalleyfoundation.org.

PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING US!

August July2009 2010 Georgia

What is the PTA? The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is the oldest and largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the United States. Local units, such as Eastvalley Elementary PTA, provide parents, teachers and community members the opportunity to unite to improve children’s lives by addressing health, education and social concerns. Why should I join the PTA? You should join the PTA because it will benefit your child. The PTA offers a variety of programs to enhance your child’s education such as First in Math, EVRC and Career Day. You should join the PTA because it will benefit you. You will receive a discount to PTA events that have an event charge. School spirit wear will be offered at a discount to PTA members only. Your PTA membership will allow you to receive coupons and discounts from local merchants. Your membership automatically makes you a member of the Georgia PTA and National PTA where more benefits are available to you. Finally, you should join the PTA because it benefits Eastvalley. Studies have shown that when parents and other community members are involved in a child’s school, grades go up, test scores improve, and attendance increases. Join us and help make a difference at Eastvalley! Who should join the PTA? Everyone is welcome to join the PTA. Parents, grandparents, other family members, friends, neighbors and especially students are encouraged to join. Where can I join the PTA? You are welcome to join during Kindergarten Orientation, Open House or any PTA-sponsored event throughout the year. You can also contact our membership chair, Stephanie Wheeler, at ptamembership@eastvalleyelementary.com.
