Welcoming Back M r s. Skinner and M r. L or d Turning the page and looking forward Lauren Michels/Katie Springborn Insider Staff As many know, EC had an extra week of summer, but not everyone knows why. A few weeks before the start of school word spread about recent administrative changes. Towards the end of last school year, president Jack Kennedy resigned and the beloved Father Heric was appointed by the Board of Trustees as Interim President of the school, until a permanent president could be found. Father and the Board thought it would be in the best interest of the school to move towards a one principal model and both Mr. Chris Sharp, Middle School Principal, and Dr. Justyna King, High School Principal, were let go. After the news dropped via a video message from Father Heric, numerous faculty and staff believed these actions to be wrong, and voiced their concerns in letters. Many faculty/staff members submitted resignations to protest the actions taken. Not only were the teachers upset with what was going on, but some parents were as well. Parents were sent general emails about what was going on, but the emails did not contain all the information as to why these changes were occurring. A town hall meeting was held on August 16 where parents were allowed to ask the board questions as to what exactly was happening and the reasoning behind it. At the meeting a large amount of parents, faculty, represented by Mr. Matthews, and some students showed up, filling up one whole side of the gym. Current ASB Secretary Jarred Flowers was

Following the meeting, the Co-Chairs resigned, Father Heric was reappointed as the Chaplain, and all members who had resigned, or left, were offered their positions back. Most teachers and staff did decide to return. In the end Vice Principal Ms. Courtney Caldwell and Principals Dr. King and Mr. Sharp did not decide to return. While neither principal came back, two new principals were hired on an interim basis, Mrs. Hylton, as PHOTO CREDIT | EASTSIDE CATHOLIC MARKETING | Middle School Principal, and given the opportunity to talk during the Mrs. Skinner, as High School Principal. M eet Your New ASB President Riley Wilkins Insider Staff With the start of a new school year upon EC, the goals and experiences hoped for by each student vary, but all students stand together in support of someone to make this year the best we can make it. Many at EC value president with moral goals and high expectations for the school. Born July of 2000, our new class president Spencer Hilf ?18 has been waiting for three years for the day he could lead Eastside Catholic into a new year. When he first began the long process to become president he was just in it for the fun and the challenge but now he takes it more seriously than ever. This year Hilf has many things to love about his new role. Spencer Hilf loves everyone in leadership but he especially loves his Vice President Leo Marchetti ?18. The dynamic duo has been in Mandarin together for six years now and always have fun together.
a week. He says that one of the perks of being president, is being at school at 7:00 am! One thing he enjoys about being president is, ?I think my favorite part of being president is being able to say hi to anyone in the school, like people I don?t know that normally wouldn?t, and not having it be awkward.? He also loves all the people that say hi to him in the hallways.
"I know it sounds cheesy but I just want people to talk to each other and not be afraid" Hilf's goal for the end of the year is to make EC an environment where everyone can talk and say hi every day. ?I just want everyone to like each other and say hi, I know it sounds cheesy but I just want people to talk
to each other and not be afraid.? When asking students about their new president Landon Halverson, ?19 said, ?I'm very excited about the new ASB. I voted for Spencer very willingly, and while I think he has a lot to prove, I think he will pull it off, and I am excited to watch that happen.? One student hopes that Hilf can make funding equal for all departments, saying ?I think that would be a great thing for Hilf to focus himself on until the end of the year.? Other students have described their new class president as ?fun? ?energetic? ?full of great ideas? and ?a fresh face for the Eastside Catholic community.? One of the leadership members of the Class of 2020 says ?Spencer is a great addition to the Leadership team. He brings a fresh perspective and tons of energy in every morning. I think he is going to be one of the best presidents yet.? In fact Hilf says he does have big plans for the year and can?t wait to spend his last year as a Crusader helping EC to be the best it can be.
He also loves his treasurer, Duncan Heger ?18 who helps him to get ready for assemblies with a good slap and some hype time. Hilf also says "it?s not scary talking in assembles but I feel like I'm more of an extrovert person anyways. So public speakings never been a challenge." It also helps that the whole leadership team helps with the preparation too. Hilf says he loves everyone on Leadership and loves working with all of them three mornings
