Dear Eastside Cat ho lic Community,

We are pleased to present the 2021-22 Annual Report, which provides details on the financial health of Eastside Catholic.

As I enter my second year as Eastside Catholic Board Chair, I want to thank all members of our faculty and staff. Your hard work and dedication have made a tangible difference in the lives of the students and families we serve.

I also want to thank our generous community for their philanthropic support. Your commitment to EC allowed our annual giving to reach new heights and created an incredible night filled with community and friendship at our STARS Gala Auction. The Gala provides the resources which act as the margin of excellence that separates Eastside Catholic from other schools. Thanks to all of you, we can fulfill our ongoing mission of providing a faith-based education for our students.

More importantly, thank you for being an active and engaged member of the EC community!

Time, Treasure, Talent. You help provide all three. I want to thank all our supporters for their continued generosity. This Annual Report will both quantitatively and qualitatively give you a sense of the many things we were able to accomplish in 2021-22.

As the year began, we collectively worked towards creative solutions, and our families, friends and alumni responded. As opportunities emerged, families and friends stepped forward to provide the financial support needed to address faculty, student and programmatic needs. We celebrate the student successes and the dedicated work of our faculty, staff, alumni and friends who answered the call for support. Thank you!

As we continue our work to build strong scholarship support to attract and retain students, you have continued to respond. When we invited you to participate in our Annual Fund, you responded. When we welcomed you to “make a difference” at our Gala to fund important safety projects and enhancements to benefit our Performing Arts Department, you responded.

Your support was critical to Eastside Catholic’s successful navigation of an unprecedented year.

I am excited about what the new year brings and am confident the support for our students will continue into and through the upcoming academic year. We cannot fulfill our mission without you.

Gil Pic c iot to President John Luger Jr. Board of Trustees Chair

The Power of Philanthropy

Roberta Farmer believed in a Catholic school on the Eastside. Patrick Deviny enjoyed math and science. Peter Dorratcague loved the spirit and activities at Eastside Catholic.

These individuals and others who established scholarships and endowments believed strongly in EC and left a lasting legacy that is benefitting students today and into the future. Gifts of all sizes enable Eastside Catholic to provide students with a quality educational experience and to enable faculty, student services and campus ministry to fully support our students’ growth into the best versions of themselves.

Patrick J. Deviny Memorial Scholarship

Patrick’s family established this award in his honor to encourage and award an EC student who loves math and science.

Peter E. Dorratcague Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund

Peter Dorratcague was a graduate of the Eastside Catholic High School Options Program Class of 1989 who died in 1996. While battling cancer, Peter asked his family to establish a scholarship at Eastside Catholic so that other students could have the same wonderful school experiences that he did. He wanted the scholarship recipient to love Eastside Catholic, their fellow students and to be involved in student life.

4 eastsidecatholic.org
The 2020-21 and 2021-22 scholarship recipients embody the characteristics that these scholarships were meant to honor.

Roberta M. Farmer Memorial Scholarship

By establishing this scholarship fund, Roberta Farmer wanted to help a female high school student “reach her potential.” Mrs. Farmer did not have children of her own, but believed strongly in Catholic education and the impact it could have on students. At Mrs. Farmer’s suggestion, the recipients of this scholarship are asked to contribute to the scholarship fund in their adult years, thus making the opportunity available for deserving students in the future. In addition to establishing this scholarship, Mrs. Farmer’s multi-million-dollar bequest enabled Eastside Catholic to buy the land for the school’s permanent home in Sammamish.

The O’Connell Family Endowment

The O’Connell Family established this endowment to support an Eastside Catholic student that demonstrates leadership, academic abilities and interests outside of the classroom. Roger and Sheron O’Connell established this award to honor and to encourage an EC student that demonstrates all the positive attributes of being a Crusader.

The Rossi Family Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a freshman or sophomore student that has demonstrated financial need, a strong faith belief and is a practicing Catholic. The scholarship was established to honor, recognize and encourage Eastside Catholic students that see the good in all and have the desire to bring out the best in people.

Wendi Marie Anderson Traynor Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a female student entering her senior year at Eastside Catholic School whose goal upon graduation is to attend college and focus on the study of law or pediatric medicine. Recipients of this scholarship are asked to consider contributing to this memorial scholarship fund during their adult years, thus keeping the scholarship alive for future students as an ongoing reminder of the destructive consequences of domestic violence.

Shawn D. Smith ’14 Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student who demonstrated how the EC Touchstones were implemented impacting the environment positively. A recipient with a true passion for the environment.

Wil Vicik STEM Endowment Memorial Scholarship

Wil’s family established the Wil Vicik Stem Endowment to support and enhance the STEM education initiatives and teacher training at Eastside Catholic in Wil’s name. This honors Wil by awarding a scholarship to one female and one male in the junior class who excel in science. Qualifications include strong science course-load and interest in pursuing a career in the sciences.

Eastside Catholic truly appreciates the dedication and generosity of our community! Every gift has a profound impact on our students’ experience, regardless of its size. When you make a gift you: • Accelerate STEM education through innovation and technology • Support faculty professional development and training • Invest in students through tuition assistance • Elevate performing and visual arts Make Your Gift today! I ♥ EC Because …

… teachers make the experience here AMAZING! Teachers help, support, and push you so that you can be the greatest! Even when times are tough, they help you make a comeback!

—S.C. Sixth Grade Student

… it’s a safe place where I feel loved and included in everything I do. I feel included and know everyone cares about my education and mental health.

—C.G. Seventh Grade Student

… this is a place where I am open to expressing myself and feel truly loved and cared for.

—J.M. Seventh Grade Student

… of the opportunities, community, teachers and students.

—L.V. Seventh Grade Student

… its strong sense of community will forever have a lasting effect on my character, guiding me to future success.

—B.M. Senior

… it’s a very welcoming community that you look forward to seeing every day!

—E.D. Freshman

… all of the coaches and teachers I have are great people, and I am blessed to have them guide me through not just high school but life with the advice they give.

—N.D. Freshman

… ever since I joined EC, my life has changed. My grades skyrocketed, I became a better athlete and more outgoing. I found a purpose.

—K.J. Eighth Grade Student

… we are a family; we all support, love, challenge, and care for each other.

—A.P. Sophomore

… of the teachers who go out of their way to help me when I need it.

—R.W. Senior

… everybody tries to make you feel safe and comfortable. EC helps you change spiritually, academically and socially within its walls. We get so many opportunities to be ourselves.
