The Cambridge American Cemetery honors the service and sacrifice of Americans who served overseas during World War II, particularly in the
United Kingdom. The United Kingdom was the principal base for the Allied Strategic Bombing Campaign and the liberation of Western Europe. Troops, supplies and equipment arrived by convoy across the Atlantic to defend the United Kingdom and support these efforts. They did so in the face of dangerous threats from German U-boats, which were brought under control through an arduous maritime campaign. The men and women buried and memorialized here represent the full diversity of American participation in World War II, both military and civilian.
