CONGRATULATIONS TEAMS! On behalf of the East Lake Foundation and The First Tee of East Lake, thank you so much for all of your hard work and generosity to make the 2016 Golf-A-Thon such a triumph! This year’s event was our most successful to date with over 2,688 holes of golf played and over $63,000 raised for The First Tee of East Lake! Please click here to see a slideshow of the day. Last Monday was an exciting day—we had 45 golfers challenging themselves to play as many holes of golf as possible. And challenging it was! Mike DeHart, who played a whopping 124 holes, tracked on his FitBit that he had 539 “Active Minutes,” accumulated 43,047 steps- the equivalent to 21.8 miles, and burned 4,050 calories! VOLUNTEER RANKINGS AS OF 6/6/16

In an effort to broaden those eligible for the Volunteer Cup, capture all of the ways in which members support the program, and to re-enforce member expectations as well as committee focus areas, we have implemented a volunteer ranking system. We hope these rankings will be a good personal reminder about your engagement, but also encourage a little friendly competition. The member with the highest number of points at the end of the year will be named the Volunteer of the Year AND win a foursome at East Lake! Below are the top 10 volunteer leaders as of 6/6/16. WAYS TO VOLUNTEER VOLUNTEER FOR NATIONAL DRIVE, CHIP AND PUTT EVENT On June 20, the Charlie Yates Golf Course is thrilled to host the national Drive, Chip and Putt Event. This is a free, nationwide junior golf development competition founded by the Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association, and the PGA of America. Participants who advance through the local, sub-regional and regional qualifying will advance to the National Finals which is conducted at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before the Masters Tournament and is broadcasted by the Golf Channel. The First Tee of East Lake will have competitors in the June 20 event. You are invited to come out and observe this exciting event. Volunteers are also needed in the morning and/or afternoon. ASSIST WITH INSTRUCTION OR ONCOURSE PLAY DURING THE SUMMER The First Tee of East Lake is in full swing this summer! The program is currently offering: 

Summer Camp four days a week from May 31 – July 8.

Saturday Summer Sessions from June 4 – July 16.

Coach Nyre welcomes Friends volunteering to assist with instruction or participate in a play date. Volunteers are needed both during the week and on Saturdays. To volunteer, please contact Coach Nyre at nwilliams@eastlakefoundation.org or 404-822-2416.

SERVE AS A VOLUNTEER SCOREKEEPER AT THE COUSINS CUP—JULY 9 & 10 On Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10, The First Tee of East Lake will hold its 3RD Cousins Cup at the Charlie Yates Golf Course! Organized similar to the Ryder Cup, two teams of First Tee participants will compete in the morning and the afternoon on both Saturday and Sunday. Bashir Chuma and Aubrey Graves have been chosen at the team captains.

6 volunteers are needed (3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon) on each day to walk with the teams and keep score. *Shifts are still being finalized, but below are estimated times for scheduling sake. Day

NEWS OF INTEREST Coach Nyre Day a Success! To celebrate Coach Nyre Day (May 30) in the City of Atlanta, Coach organized a volunteer event to give back to the community he loves so much. On Saturday, May 28, Friends members, First Tee participants and their families gathered at the Charlie Yates Golf Course to make lunches for the homeless. It’s true many hands make light work. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, over 100 sack lunches were prepared! Many thanks to Friends members Mike Graham, Graham Roberts, Chris Witcher, Leslie Zacks and his son Andrew, for participating.

GOLF WITH A PURPOSE Congratulations to The First Tee of East Lake participants Solomon Dobbs, Jourdan Harris, and Chris McCrary who successfully completed The First Tee’s caddie training program and are now working at the East Lake Golf Club. Be sure to request them if you play East Lake this summer!

COACH JEFF FEATURED IN PGA MAGAZINE Congratulations to Coach Jeff who was featured in the May issue of the PGA magazine. The article highlights Coach Jeff’s work with the National Black Golf Hall of Fame which his father, Harold Dunovant, founded 30 years ago. To read the entire article, please click here. BASHIR CHUMA ONE OF 24 GOLFERS SELECTED TO ATTEND THE FIRST TEE NATIONAL GOLF ACADEMY Congrats to Bashir who was selected by a national panel of judges to participate in The First Tee College Golf Prep Academy in Reno, Nev., July 20–27. The First Tee College Golf Prep Academy is a unique opportunity for participants within the network that are interested in pursuing collegiate golf. Participants will receive life skills and golf instruction from The First Tee Coaches and special guest speakers to help improve their chances to compete at a higher level athletically and academically. Congratulations to Aubrey Graves who was selected among 20 participants to play in the 2016 Perfect Sense Digital Pro-Am Challenge, an event to be held at Congressional Country Club in conjunction with the Quicken Loans National, an official PGA TOUR event in Bethesda, Maryland. Participants will be paired with a PGA Tour professional, a Special Olympics athlete, a veteran from Feherty’s First Troops Fondation and a Perfect Sense Digital partner for 18 holes of championship golf on Monday, June 20, 2016. Bashir and Aubrey were both selected to participate in this years Bill Dickey Invitational Junior Golf Championship (BDI) June 26-29. The tournament was implemented for the purpose of providing an internationally recognized and highly competitive venue for the country's top minority junior golf talent. The Bill Dickey Invitational Junior Golf Championship enables 40+ minority junior and high school players with single-digit handicaps to compete in a 36-hole medal play tournament at Ibis Country Club in West Palm Beach, FL. Congratulations to both!

The mission of The Friends of The First Tee of East Lake is to support, empower, and invest in the participants of The First Tee of East Lake through golf and non-golf activities to prepare them for success on the course and in life.
