‘There is no such thing as an empty space or an empty time. There is always something to see, something to hear.’

The theatre presents around 130 live performances and 100 film screenings each year; amounting to more than 2,500 public events in its first 20 years.

‘I love watching films at the Eastgate and the yummy lunch and cake, and I love performing there too.’

‘It’s wonderful being part of a theatre, it’s inclusive, you get people of all ages and from different backgrounds working together.’

There are art, dance, drama, movement and music classes throughout the year, for all ages and abilities.

‘The Eastgate is the best thing that has happened to Peebles in the three decades that I have lived here.’

‘No need for people to say that they’re ever lonely – just come along to the Eastgate.’

Every £1 spent in the Eastgate generates at least £5 for the local economy.

The Eastgate’s dedicated team of volunteers contribute around 4,000 hours of work to the venue every year.

Participating in the arts can improve mental health by reducing stress and isolation, and improving self esteem.

‘A community without culture is a community which has lost its direction.’ I

EASTGATE members

The Eastgate Theatre and Arts Centre is a community-owned arts enterprise in the heart of Peebles. Since opening in 2004, it has become the most dynamic and diverse multi-arts venue in the Scottish Borders.

The theatre presents performances by many of Scotland’s leading companies and international artists, as well as working closely with Borders-based writers, directors, practitioners and performers to develop new work of high quality. A wide range of classes and workshops gives people of all ages and abilities the opportunity for hands-on creativity. The venue’s café is a lively social space during the daytime, as well as a welcoming place for pre-theatre drinks in the evening.

For thousands of people each year the Eastgate is a source of inspiration, entertainment, opportunity, friendship and joy. As a small charity, its creative vision depends on a hardworking team of staff, volunteers and directors; but its continued success also relies on active support from funders, sponsors, patrons and donors.

If you believe in the importance of creativity, and its potential to contribute to a better future for everyone, then please consider becoming a member or signing up as a supporter of the Eastgate Theatre.
