Dress Code for Islamic Men

Much has been talked about the dressing code, rules and regulations that need to be followed by the Islamic women but not many know about the Islamic clothing codes for men. One rule that is common for both men and women is that they should be always dressed in a modest manner. Today, the market has various options of Islamic clothing for men, but men need to choose their apparels carefully and they should be in accordance to the Islamic rules and regulations. Listed below are some of the codes that need to be followed while looking for men's Islamic clothing options.

 Islamic men should always wear clothes that reach till the knees. Awrah is an Islamic term which means from the navel to the knee and it is one of the main rules for Islamic men to keep the Awrah covered. Thus they should wear clothes that cover them till the knees.  Men should not wear any clothes that hang below the ankles. The clothes that are worn should either be till the knees or should reach till the ankles, but not beyond that.

 Islamic men are not allowed to wear silk. It is only permissible for women and it is believed that Islamic men and women cannot dress identically.  Wearing gold is not permitted for Islamic men. They cannot wear any gold jewelery like rings, chains or cuffs.  A man following Islam cannot wear the skin of a dead animal. The exceptions that are permissible are apparels that are made of wool, camel hair and goat hair. Men are permitted to wear these as they are considered to be pure.  Wearing see­through clothes is not allowed for Islamic men. It is very important to keep the body covered at all times and the skin of the body should not be visible to anyone.  Men are not allowed to imitate women when it comes to dressing and in the same manner, women are forbidden to imitate men. This means that neither women can get dressed in the same clothes as men and vice versa.  It is believed that while getting dressed, an Islamic man should start getting dressed from the right side, for example, if a Thobes has to be worn, the right hand should be put first into the Thobe). Also, while taking off the clothes, it should be started from the left side.  Before putting on a new garment, a thankful prayer must be made to Allah and a Dua should be made.
