Nurturing SERVING THOSE WHO SERVE US CAMP YELLOW RIBBON

NURTURING PROGRAM 2012: AMERICA’S MILITARY FAMILIES

Until recently, there have been very few supports to provide children whose parents are or have been deployed in the military with emotional support in a safe and nurturing environment. In partnership with mental health professionals, Camp Yellow Ribbon offers typical camp activities as well as therapeutic activities that help military children to share their fears, bond, mentor and heal with other children their age. Last year 21 campers between the ages of 7 and 14 took advantage of the week long overnight camp. To meet the increased need to serve 50 children this year, Easter Seals Southeast WI has been awarded a $5,000 gift from Complete Mobile Dentistry, Inc to help us continue to provide this camp free of charge. Complete Mobile Dentistry provides onsite dental readiness exams to military personnel throughout the country to help them meet dental need before deployment. Special thanks to this group for helping us find ways to support our military and their entire families.

For more than 5 years, Easter Seals has been providing family nurturing programs. These programs give support to families who face challenges in parenting and building positive personal relationships resulting in healthy family environments.

“There is no better investment for the future then investing in children. Camp Yellow Ribbon is a great organization to help out because not only are these children our future but they have already given up so much so that we may enjoy a better life. “ Kimberly Murray, Complete Mobile Dentistry

As family challenges in society change, our services grow to meet them. Recent studies have shown that an overwhelming 1.8 million members of the Armed Forces returning from service in Iraq and Afghanistan are facing physical and mental health needs that can impact their entire families. Family life in the military can have unusual challenges on the family that come with frequent moves from base to base, physical absence of a parent during deployment or stresses in reintegration to family, social and work life upon return. As an extension of our nurturing services, the Military Family Nurturing Program was created to support the needs of the entire military family to help them: - Stay connected during deployment or deal with separation or loss - Keep relationships together - Help children cope with deployment - Reunite post deployment For more information on our Military Family Nurturing Program or Camp Yellow Ribbon, contact 414-571-5566 x421 or visit our website at www.eastersealswise.com.
