Thorough research armed the team with insights, enabling evidence-backed recommendations aligned with industry best practices.

Finally, Creating a Path: Crafting an Action Plan

Leveraging insights and data, an actionable plan emerged. It outlined steps to address HR challenges, proposing policy adjustments and procedure enhancements.

DESIGN THINKING WORKSHOP

In August 2023, OCE hosted a comprehensive Design Thinking workshop led by Barnabas Chiang, a design thinking coach within OCE. The workshop, spanning three sessions, aimed to equip participants from OCE, OIA, BBI, and FabLab with vital problem-solving skills.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Page 10

Design thinking focuses on innovative problem-solving by understanding user needs and root causes. For example, when addressing the issue of young professionals struggling to maintain a healthy diet, design thinking goes beyond the surface to explore underlying challenges like time management.

The significance of design thinking lies in its holistic perspective, merging aspects of business, logic, society, and emotions to foster practical creativity. It encourages curiosity, experimentation, and continuous learning, enabling organizations to adapt and innovate.

The EIU Design Thinking workshop stands as a foundational pillar for enhancing problem-solving skills and driving innovation, in line with our commitment to empowering team members for collective success.

Design thinking extends beyond specific issues, enabling us to rethink business models, foster a transformative company culture, adapt to evolving market trends, redefine business value, and address significant societal challenges. This adaptability underscores our dedication to holistic growth and constructive change.

The workshop, guided by Barnabas, offered hands-on skill acquisition. Participants were empowered to identify genuine problems, generate innovative ideas, and apply them practically using provided techniques and a real-world case study.

In the post-workshop phase, Barnabas continued to support participants on their learning journey, offering guidance as they applied Design Thinking principles within their individual workplace settings.

In today’s rapidly evolving job market, the transition from university life to a full-fledged career can be both exciting and daunting for students. They often face numerous questions about their chosen professions, industry trends, and how to stand out in a competitive job market. Recognizing these challenges, EIU has taken a proactive approach to bridge the gap between academia and the workforce with its EIU Alumni Sharing Series. On April 21, 2023, the program marked a significant milestone with its Inaugural Round-table Discussion, where alumni and experts in Supply Chain shared their invaluable experiences.

ALUMNI RELATIONS Page 12

Here is a deeper look at how the program is helping the EIU students as they embark on their professional journeys:

Guidance

Alumni can offer valuable insights and advice to students, helping them navigate the challenges of transitioning into the workforce by sharing their personal experiences, discussing career paths, and offering guidance on professional development.

Networking Opportunities

The Alumni Sharing Series is a dedicated platform allowing alumni to expand their professional connections and build relationships within their field of expertise. During the event, students can establish connections with alumni and companies that may lead to job opportunities.

Staying Current with Industry Trends

In today’s fast-paced world, staying up to date with industry trends and technological advancements is crucial. Alumni and experts from the industry can provide students with real-time insights into the latest developments in their fields. This ensures that students are wellprepared for the challenges and opportunities awaiting them upon graduation.

Bridging the Recruitment Gap Alumni often maintain strong ties with their employers. Through the Alumni Sharing Series, they can communicate their organizations’ recruitment needs directly to students. This direct link between alumni and the job market can be a game-changer for students seeking employment opportunities. It also benefits alumni by allowing them to identify and hire promising young talent from EIU.
