Joshua Landon Jeffreys (‘06) and Brandy Nicole (Robbins) Brackett (‘06) were united in marriage at All Saints’ Episcopal Church in McAlester on Oct. 12, 2013. Jeffreys graduated from Savanna High School in 2003 and earned his bachelor’s degree in biology at ECU in 2006. He currently works at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant in railroad transportation. Brackett graduated from Seminole High School in 2002 and earned her bachelor’s degree in mass communications at ECU in 2006. She works with Lifetouch Photography in the church directories and portraits division as a photographer.
ECU graduate from the nursing program in 2013. She is an RN in the Ardmore ER. Nine members of the wedding party were ECU graduates.
After graduating from ECU, Joe King (‘06) obtained his master’s degree at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City in psychology in education. This past year he graduated with his PhD in educational psychology focusing on measurement, statistics and research design, and he now works for the Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy as a research analyst.
Ty Gower (‘10) married Natalie Burden at First Church in Oklahoma City on July 12, 2014. Ty graduated from Ada High School in 2006 and ECU in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in history education. In 2012, he graduated from Henderson State with a master’s degree in sports administration. He is employed by Norman North High School as a history teacher and football coach. Burden graduated from Ada High School in 2007 and Oklahoma State University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in graphic design. She is employed by ID Solutions as a graphic designer.
Matt Appelman (‘08, ‘09) married Rindi Alexander (‘13) on July 13, 2013, in Davis. Appelman was on the ECU men’s cross country team from 2004-2008 and received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in December 2008 and a master of education in sports administration from ECU in 2009. He is the coach for the Marietta girls’ cross country team which won the Class 3A girls state championship in 2013. Alexander is also an
2010s ECU graduate Jamie Cluck (‘10) embraced his passion and represented ECU in the process as he studied the Russian language abroad last fall at Kiev National Linguistic University in Kiev, Ukraine. As part of ECU’s Global Education Department, Cluck spent an entire semester in Kiev, immersed in the Russian language and culture at ECU’s sister institution.
Merry Monroe (‘11) is all about teaching the Chickasaw language so it lives on. Since 1970, the former Ms. Merry Baker has shared the Chickasaw language, music and merriment to the lives of Byng High School students and thousands of others. After graduating from Byng High School in 1969, she planned on attending nursing school. But injuries in a car accident prevented her from achieving that goal. At the urging of then Superintendent Marvin Stokes, Monroe was ultimately coaxed into working for Byng
Schools in the Indian Education Program in 1970. Monroe later attended ECU and immediately took classes in Native American history, sign language and speech. That led to a career which has touched others. JJ Stewart (attending) and Clay Plunk (‘11) were united in marriage on Aug. 2, 2014, at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church in Allen. Stewart graduated from Roff High School in 2012 and will graduate from ECU in December 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She is employed by the Chickasaw Nation at Sovereign Family Practice Center. Plunk is a 2007 Byng High School graduate and a 2011 graduate of ECU. He has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and is employed by Roff Public Schools. Garett Hatton (‘13) and Linden Anderson were united in marriage on April 12, 2014 at Aubrey Hall in Monroe, La. Hatton graduated from Ada High School in 2008 and ECU in 2013. Anderson is a 2013 graduate of Louisiana Tech University. Kristen Kelley (‘13) and Zach Braun exchanged vows on Sept. 21, 2013, at Fossil Creek Ranch. Kelley is a 2010 graduate of Byng High School and graduated from ECU in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She is employed as a beginning freshman admissions officer at ECU. Braun attended Roff High School and is a freight broker at HTC Transport and is a member of the Roff City Council.
