centennial Endowments The term “Centennial Endowments” was developed in 2009 during ECU’s centennial year. Dr. Duane C. Anderson, who was serving as ECU’s interim president that year, challenged the University and the various departments with the task of raising five $15,000 scholarships which would be called Centennial Endowments in honor of the University’s 100th birthday. There were a total of 22 endowments established that year for a total of over $350,000, and as a result of that success, this designation and special recognition has continued on today.
Currently, there are 65 Centennial Endowments totaling $1,445,000! The following pictures show Foundation Director Phyllis Danley, Foundation Board Chair Craig Scheef, and ECU President John Hargrave making presentations at the 2014 Evening of Honors and Recognition ceremony.
DUANE C. AND MARIAN L. ANDERSON CENTENNIAL HISTORY ENDOWMENT At the 2013 Honors and Recognition Banquet, an anonymous donor established the Duane C. and Marian L. Anderson Centennial History Endowment with an initial donation of $5,000. During the past year, there have been additional donations which have boosted the total to over $15,000. This scholarship was awarded for the first time in the fall 2014 semester.
MADELINE HARGRAVE CENTENNIAL EDUCATION ENDOWMENT This Centennial Endowment in Education was established by Dr. Jack Paschall, with additional contributions by family, friends and colleagues of the late Justice Hargrave. This scholarship will be used primarily for students working on master’s degrees in education with an emphasis on reading.
