Enhancing diabetes care and patient outcomes amongst working professionals through webapp-based

Remote Monitoring

The global prevalence of diabetes mellitus is a significant public health challenge. For working professionals, managing diabetes presents unique difficulties due to demanding schedules, stress, and limited access to continuous healthcare support. Traditional care models, which rely on infrequent in-person consultations, often fail to provide the real-time feedback and support necessary for effective disease management, leading to poor glycemic control and an increased risk of complications. This gap in continuous care underscores the need for innovative, accessible, and user-friendly solutions that integrate seamlessly into a busy lifestyle.

This study aimed to design, develop, and evaluate the efficacy of a web application-based remote monitoring system as an intervention to enhance diabetes care and improve patient outcomes among working professionals. The primary objective was to assess the system's impact on key clinical indicators, including HbA1c levels and blood glucose variability, as well as its effect on patient engagement, self-management behaviors, and satisfaction with care.

The increasing global burden of diabetes mellitus necessitates a re-evaluation of current healthcare delivery models. For working professionals, the structured routines of traditional clinic visits often clash with their dynamic work and life commitments. This lack of flexibility can lead to sub-optimal disease management, poor adherence to treatment plans, and subsequent progression of the disease. Furthermore, the intermittent nature of in-person visits limits the ability of healthcare providers to gain a holistic and real-time understanding of a patient’s health, making it difficult to provide timely and personalized feedback. Technology-driven interventions, such as web applications, offer a promising solution by providing a platform for continuous monitoring and communication. By leveraging such tools, we can empower patients to take a more active role in their health management and enable care teams to deliver more responsive and effective care. This study hypothesizes that a remote monitoring web application will lead to improved clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction for working professionals with diabetes.

Abstract Preface Introduction Objectives

India faces an escalating prediabetes crisis among its working professionals, a critical and underserved segment demanding proactive intervention. The rapid pace of urbanization, coupled with high-stress work environments, sedentary lifestyles, and the widespread adoption of high-sugar, low-fiber diets, has created a perfect storm for metabolic disorders. This demographic, often the economic backbone of their families and the nation, is at a disproportionately high risk of progressing from prediabetes to full-blown Type 2 diabetes. The economic and social implications are staggering, affecting not only individual health but also workforce productivity and national healthcare expenditures. Traditional healthcare infrastructure, constrained by limited resources and a reactive, episodic care model, is ill-equipped to address this large-scale preventive challenge. In-person clinic visits are often inconvenient for busy schedules, leading to low adherence and a missed opportunity for early intervention.

MyEasyPharma leverages a sophisticated AI and data analytics-enabled Web App to deliver personalized preventive health solutions through the manual entry of all health vitals, including blood sugar readings, with visual representations of glucose trends over time (graphs) for the identification of patterns (e.g., potential spikes). The Web App is also accessible to physicians for monitoring patient health in real-time.

The primary objectives of MyEasyPharma are to:

● Reduce the prevalence of lifestyle-related health issues among corporate employees through personalized, data-driven health recommendations.

● Enhance productivity and reduce absenteeism in the workplace by improving employee health and wellness.

● Empower employees with the knowledge and tools to make informed health decisions, promoting a culture of health awareness within the corporate setting.

● Blood Glucose Logging & Analysis:

○ Manual entry of blood sugar readings.

○ Potential for integration with glucometers (via Bluetooth or other connectivity) for automatic data syncing (though this is more common in mobile apps, web apps can facilitate data upload).

○ Visual representation of glucose trends over time (graphs, charts).

○ Identification of patterns (e.g., spikes after certain meals, time-of-day fluctuations).

○ Estimated HbA1c tracking.

● Medication Management:

○ Logging of insulin doses and other diabetes medications.

○ Setting up medication reminders and alerts.

○ Tracking medication adherence.

○ Access to drug information (indications, dosage, warnings).

● Diet and Nutrition Tracking:

○ Food logging with a searchable database of food items (potentially including local Indian cuisine options, given the New Delhi context).

○ Carbohydrate counting, calorie tracking, and macronutrient breakdown.

○ Ability to create custom food entries or recipes.

○ Personalized meal plans and dietary recommendations.

● Weight & Other Vitals Tracking:

○ Monitoring weight and BMI.

○ Logging blood pressure, heart rate, and other relevant health parameters.

○ Tracking other symptoms or notes in a "patient diary" function.

Insights, Reporting, and Personalization:

● Dashboards & Summaries: A comprehensive overview of current health metrics and trends.

● Detailed Reports: Generation of printable or shareable reports of logged data for healthcare providers.
