The Basics

Greatlookingprintstartswithgreatlooking,printreadyartwork. Therearesomebasicrulestofollowwhencreatingartworktoensure therearenonastysurpriseswhenyourjobisdelivered.

●PDFfileswillalwaysgivethebestresults. Eitherconverttextto curvesorincludethefontsusedwithyourorder.

●Ifusingimagesinyourprint,makesuretheyare300dpi. Anything lessthanthismaylookpixilatedwhenprinted. Imagesdownloaded fromthewebareusuallylowresolutionandwillnotprintwell.

●Pleasesupplyartworkwitha3mmbleedandcropmarks. Wealso recommendleavinga3mm‘safezone’insidethetrimmedarea.

●Avoidusingthinlinesorbordersaroundtheedgeofyourdesign. Whenprintingyourorders,thereareoftenverysmallshiftsin positiononeachpage,whichisunavoidable. Whenwetrimthe sheets,thismovementmaycausethinborderstobecomeuneven, spoilingthefinishedlook.

●Whensupplyingartworkforbooklets,pleasesupplyinsequential orderwithonepageperpageinyourPDF. Oursystemsaresetup tocreatetheprinterspairsautomatically.

Asournamesuggests,weareheretomakeyourprintbuyingeasy. So iftheaboveguidancemakesnosense,donotworry! Justsendusthe filesyouhaveandwewillhappilyhelp!!

Digital Metallic Foil Overprinting

DigitalMetallicFoilPrintingisaquickandcosteffectivealternativeto traditionalhotfoilstamping. Thesespecialfinishescanbeappliedto productsprintedon250gsmstocksandabovewithouttheexpenseof metalplates. Theprocessusedisafourpartprocess:

1. WeprintthefullcolourpartofthedesignfirstonSRA3sheets.

2. Wethenaddaluxurioussofttouchvelvetlaminationlayertoseal thecolourprint.

3. Thesheetsarethenputbackthroughourpresstooverprintin 100%blackwherethefoilelementswillbe.

4. Thesheetsareputthroughourfoilingmachinewheremetallicfoil isappliedtotheareasprintedblackinStep3above.

Becausefoilprintisalwaysprintedseparatelytoeverythingelse, thereisanunavoidableriskofsomemicromovementoftheprintfrom onesheettothenext. Therefore,whencreatingyourdesign,make sureyouallowforthissmallmovementbynotcreatingfoilelements whichmustlineupperfectlywithotherprint. Typicalshiftbetween sheetsislessthan0.5mm,soisnotusuallynoticeable,butonsome designsthismaycauseaproblem.

It’salsobesttoonlyfoilareaswithasolidprint,asthefoilneedssolid blackprinttostickto. Avoidgreyscalesandverythinlines.

Whensupplyingartworkfiles,weneedtheartworktobesuppliedas twoseparatepagesperside.

Pageoneshouldbethecolourprintelementsofthedesignwithout anyofthefoilparts. Pagetwoshouldthenbetheelementsyouwant foiled,butsetin100%blackonly.

Digital Spot Gloss Overprinting

DigitalSpotGlossOverprintingisawayofcreatingstunningcontrast effectswithbothtextandimages. Amattfinishisappliedtothe sheet,withspecificelementshighlightedinhighgloss. Itcancreate amazingeffectsbyapplyingittotextorlogos,andcanmake photographsreallystandout.

TheeffectisverysimilartoSpotUVVarnish,butisdifferentintheway itisproducedanddoeshavesomelimitations. OurDigitalSpotGloss involvesprintingthenonglossprintfirst,thenaddingamatt laminationtosealtheprint. TheareastobeSpotGlossarethen overprintedbyourdigitalpressbeforerunningbackthroughthe laminatortoapplytheclearglossfilmwhichonlyadherestotheareas ofoverprintedtoner. Becausetheglossonlyadherestotonerareas, thisdoesmeanareasofwhiteorlightprintwillnotglosswell.

WhensupplyingartworkforourDigitalSpotGlossOverprint,we requiretwopagespersideinthefile. Thefirstpageshouldcontainall theNonSpotGlossprintandthesecondpagetheglossybits.

it can help to put a 2-3pointborderlinearoundtheouteredge of the photo in the same colour as the background. Thiswillhelpcoverany sheet to sheet movement and avoid whiteedgesshowing.

Overprint:

●Amazingeffectscanbeachievedbyoverprintingacoloured backgroundwithtext,patterns orlogosinthesamecolour. Asin theexampleabove,byprintingthewordHiinblackoverblack,it createsahighglosseffectwithrealimpact.

●ItispossibletoapplytheDigitalSpotGlosstoanycolour,sophotos canbeSpotGlossfinished. However,areasinaphotowhichare reallylightmaynotglosssolidly.

●Ifcreatingadesignwithaspotglossphotoorlogoonadark background,youmustleaveawhiteareaonyournonglossed artworkpageortheoverprintedphotowillnotshowduetothe darkbackgroundbehind. Forexample,printingyellowoverablack backgroundwillnotshowasyellow,soyoumustleaveawhite background. Alsorememberthemicromovementsbetweensheets mayleaveawhiteedgeonsomesmallelements.

Digital Die & Kiss Cutting

OurDigitalDieCutterisatwin head,fullyautomated,suctionfed SRA3cutter,whichusesQRcode technologyandopticalregistration forperfectlypositionedcutson eachandeverysheet. Itoffersdie cutting(fulldepthcuts),kiss cutting(surfacelayercutfor stickers),creasingandperforating allinonemachine,makingitgreat forkisscutlabels,shapedflyers andevensmallpackagingboxes.

Artworkfordigitalcuttingshould besuppliedwiththecutpatternon aseparatepageorPDFfile. The followingcolourcodeshouldbe usedwherepossible,asour softwareisprogrammedto recognisethesecolours automatically.
