Cra book recommenda ons Title: Resilient S tch - wellbeing and connec on in tex le art Author: Claire Wellesley-Smith Website www.clairewellesleysmith.co.uk Cra /area covered: S tching Basic outline of the book: (what area does the book cover, does it use photographs, sketches, instruc ons, how to do, pa erns etc) Chapters include Material Community Environment History Conclusion Claire also has a postscript on the a project she ran during the pandemic. Why you recommend this book: what did you like about it, how did it help you, did you complete any work as a result of reading this? This book just came out in April and is Claire’s second book. We have already reviewed her rst book Slow S tch. Claire uses the concept of resilience to drive her book. She applies it in each chapter with excellent examples from her own prac ce and that of others. For me, Claire is a shining light in community arts while maintaining her own pro le as a tex le ar st. Both of her worlds speak to each other and that makes her work relatable for many people. The sec on on unmaking has really captured me and I will be applying the theory to a piece of work my grandmother made that now needs a rescue. The photographs are inspiring and the wee projects she includes speak well to her theme.

It is an excellent second book from Claire as it follows on so well from her rst. Like her rst book, this one has a strong sense of sustainability and a response to some of the wastefulness of modern society. The Bradford Covid-19 project in the postscript sec on pulls at the heart strings.
