FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 27, 2014

FUTURE EXECUTIVES, INC.: Helping Inner-City Youth Get to Where They Want to Be NEW YORK, NY – Simone Monet Wahls is a music industry professional turned youth advocate. Noticing a lack of resources available to inner-city children, in 1989 she launched Future Executives, Inc., a 501(c)(3). She offers youth an opportunity to see firsthand what their “dream job” would be like. By connecting youth from underserved inner-city communities to mentors and virtual volunteers who have long been established in their fields, she offers them unique opportunities to acquire the tools they need to achieve their goals. “We’ve all know the old saying, ‘It’s not what you know, but who you know.’ Young people today need to be in touch with the people who can make a difference in their careers and help them along,” says Ms. Wahls. “Unfortunately, the networks that the privileged have access to are not readily available to those from underserved communities. I want to do what I can to help these children feel comfortable building those kinds of bridges.” Ms. Wahls knows the added difficulties and isolation inner-city children must face, striving along their career path. A Brooklyn native, she has had to learn through diligence, often trial and error, and also resorted at times, to her own ingenuity. By connecting youth from underserved communities to mentors and virtual volunteers (many, like herself originally from inner-city neighborhoods), Future Executives extends their support system and helps them lay a solid foundation for their future endeavors.

Simone Monet Wahls and Future Executives, Inc. Simone Monet Wahls holds a dual Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Mass Communication/Media Studies and African American Studies from the State University of New York and has earned a Master of Education degree from Cambridge College. She began in the entertainment industry, working for MTV, Source Magazine, Vibe Magazine, Mercury Records, Uptown Records, Motown Records, and MJI Broadcasting in various capacities, including broadcast communications, journalism, and publicity. In 1989, Simone Monet Wahls founded Future Executives. Incorporated in 1994, the mission of this 501(c)(3) is to help aspiring inner-city youth (primarily ages 8 to 25) achieve career goals. Future Executives gives them the tools they need to get started in their respective field: leadership training workshops, mentorship matching programs, and a network of virtual volunteers available on the organization’s social media and online communities (www.futureexecutives.org). In an economy where the unemployment rate is nearly 10%, Future Executives also encourages youth to explore entrepreneurship, providing training, financial support, and other resources to help them plan and start their own business. Simone Monet Wahls has received a commendation from New York City Board of Education for her I Don’t Wanna Be a Rapper Symposium on Alternative Careers in Entertainment and from the NYCHA branch of the NAACP with an award honoring her as a “Woman of Strength in the Community” during their Women on the Move: Celebrating 100 years of Progress Event. She currently serves on the national advisory committee for College Board’s A Dream Deferred™: The Future of African American Education. Simone Monet Wahls has twice spoken at the White House, advocating for youth. For more information, visit www.futureexecutives. org.
