So the boy began to wonder what this outer world was really like. The land, the sky, the trees, the water, the wind... Everything was the same as yesterday, but why did the world appear so different to his own eyes?
He walked and walked with questions. Little did he know that the answer, hidden in the depths of the mountains and the sea, was precisely the figure he knew best.
But at other times he was tired and felt that the path before him was full of thorns and twists and turns.
He travelled over the land and water, and encountered all sorts of things. There were times when he was energised and felt that he was in a paradise, that everything around him was new and beautiful.
Finally when the boy reached the right age, he set off on his own for the outer world.
People said the outer world was full of strange beasts and all sorts of exotic treasures.
Once upon a time boy who was told outer world far

DESIGN OVERVIEW
This stage is designed for English indie rock band Florence + the Machine for their concert use, centering on their 2011 album Ceremonials. I set the concern to be held in a stadium that can host 20,000 visitors. At the center, it is a oval shape stage, with a surface area of 150 square meters and a height of 1.8m, so that people can watch the performance from all directions. Use AR technology in part of the show, allowing people to also watch the performance on the stadium live screen with computer generated imagery.
Florence + the Machine is my favorite band, and Ceremonials is their first album that I listen to. I specifically enjoy the grand feeling in this album. Florence’s voice is also breathtaking. Therefore, I wish to design a concert dedicated to this album. Just like the the name of this album, Ceremonials, suggests, a ceremony dominated by music with all audiences being the participants. Express the darkness, void, hope and salvation from the album to everyone.
Cover art for Ceremonials
As the lead singer of the band, Florence is also outstanding performer. Her image and style have something very unique to herself visually. When we talk about the performances of Florence + the Machine, her long curly hair and light silky dress will naturally occur our minds. Her own vantage elements and religious themes in the lyrics make this band unique by itself.

STAGE DESIGN
The inspiration of the main stage comes from the oval shaped vintage mirrors. Add some curve elements to create the unique structure in addition to the basic oval shape.
The main installation takes the form a nested circle. The inspiration comes from the halo of Holy Mother. Hang the lights above the singer’s head in a circle to create a sense a mystery.
NARRATIVE STRUCTURE
I divide the entire shows into four parts, Hunter, Sinker, Prayer and Dancer. All four words come from the contents mentioned in the album. From the words of Florence, we can often see her struggling against her dark side, which is something we all have to deal with in our lives, to face adversities and overcome them. Florence plainly and honestly share her process with her audiences. These four words accurately resemble to the phases of the process. We are often hunted by our fears, and sink to the deep darkness; we also pray to the higher beings for help, and eventually we dance to celebrate.
ACT Ⅰ HUNTER
It always felt like something had picked me up and thrown me around various rooms and houses, then gone "boom!"
—Florence Welch
In Florence’s interview, she often talks about her own anxiety and fears. And “Hunter” refers to such a unsettled state. Her original words in the interviews are “not wanting to come down”, a feeling of being hunted by her own fear, and chased by “the fact my life had changed”, leading her to be a constant state of floating around.
Atmosphere
For the collection of songs to be played, I choose four songs that sound “big” to me. The instrumental performance and lyrics construct a splendid scene. I wish to set this tone from the beginning of the concert, combining with contents of lyrics, to create a grand yet chaotic and dreadful scene.
Track Listing
"Seven Devils"
"Breath of life"
"Only If for a Night"
"No Light, No Light"
The Hanging Stage
In this performance, Florence device, with a radius of 1.5m, will circle around Florence
I used the song "Seven Devils" as the first song to open the show, and the whole show started with the intro of "Seven Devils". The hanging screen lit up while the first lyric "Holy water cannot help you now" was sung, and the AR effect of Devils' figures peeking out of the screen could be seen in the broadcast. When the chorus came on, the ring on the main stage was pulled up and light and fog emanated from the middle of the stage, then the show began.

Florence will be standing on a round lifting 1.5m, which can be pulled up. Two searchlights Florence to simulate a state of “unsettled”.
Black Noise (AR)
At the end of the performance, all the lights will go off, except the weak light radiated from the round device. A black noise sphere in irregular shape will be dropped from the bottom of the device, symbolizing all the fears and chaos.Florence will be standing beneath the Black Noise to continue performing. The black noise sphere is an AR effect whose formation inside the round device can be watched by people via the live screen.

ACT Ⅱ SINKER
I was obsessed with drowning. It’s about succumbing and being completely overwhelmed by something that’s bigger than everything.
—Florence Welch
Track Listing
"Remain Nameless" "Breaking Down" "What the Water Gave Me" "Never Let Me Go"
In an interview, Florence mentioned that she was “obsessed with drowning”and how the write Woolf walked into the river with pockets full of stones. The theme Sinker comes from this story. Pulling downwards by all the burdens heavy as stones is just like drowning. However, it is also a release. Thus I choose four songs that emotionally go down to match the theme of Sinker.I extract the element of water to reflect on the stage. The lights will turn to red, moving audiences from the outer water environment into the inner psychological space, creating a sense of horror and romance.
WATER RED&VEIL
ACT Ⅲ PRAYER
I need something bigger than me and outside of myself to help me kind of overcome this. And then it all seems to ease.
—Florence Welch
Track Listing
"All This and Heaven Too" "Leave My Body" "Bedroom Hymns" "Lover to Lover"
HOLY
More than once, Florence mentioned her obsession with religious topics. Even though she is not a follower for a specific one, but all of them share the same origin topic when it comes to the creation of religions. People’s shared experiences and desires created a higher being greater than themselves for them to depend on and pray to. The lyrics in this collection of songs are all related to religious terms, such as heaven, prayer, and salvation... Therefore, the whole creates an atmosphere enveloped by yellow holy light, with a sense of sacred ritual.
THE CHURCH
In the last part of the show, surrounded by flowers and dancers, Florence can being a performer, dance her most symbolic and representative move. Pass on the positive energy using a fully expressed performance. At the end of the final song, Strangeness & Charm, the lights will slowly fade following the last lyrics “down, down, down, down...”, with the only remaining light fixed at Florence, to finish her final part of the performance.
ACT Track "Shake "Heartlines" "Spectrum" "Strangeness All get tangled Time Ceremonials: demons, This and collection and to vitality and Atmosphere In singular colors blossoming paired emotions
ACT Ⅳ DANCER
All the kind of worst parts of myself become useful or they get absorbed. And it’s a liberation for me. From this quite tangled person.
—Florence Welch
Time magazine used to comment highly on Ceremonials: when she sings about darkness and demons, we know she will ultimately conquer them. This remarks is the best demonstration of the strength and determination we feel from her voice. This collection of songs is what I find with most strength and power. Using “Dancer” as the tile is not only due her obsession with dancing, but also because of the vitality in the action of dancing itself.I wish to relay and pass out the courage at the end of the show.
Atmosphere
this part of the show, I choose to no longer use singular color. Instead, many highly saturated bright colors will be used to fully express in the form of blossoming flowers. A splendid dance performance, paired with as many colors as possible, to let out all the emotions and energy.
Track Listing
"Shake It Out" "Heartlines" "Spectrum" "Strangeness & Charm"
Flower Light (AR)
At the end of the entire concert, all light will go off, with some reaming weak lights from the round installation to point at Florence. Flowers will start growing from the round installation, from the upper part to the lower part, with lights radiated from the roots. This is to contrast with the Black Noise from the first part of the show, as this scene represents hopes and strengths. It's kind of beauty born out of all the fear and chaos before. The concert is hereby concluded.

HOW DO WE STOP
CONCEPT
The world is caught up in a whirlwind of force and
In the last few years, I have felt more and more conflicts taking place. From people against people, to nation against nation. People are caught in a vicious cycle where desire fuels desire, harm returns harm and conflict triggers conflict. Everything is inextricably linked and bad energy builds up in a back and forth process, a process that produces harm that destroys the social and natural environment in which we live and also leads to self-
The installation I have designed enacts this infinite cycle of violence by having two small balls dangling in a glass box constantly collide. Through the design of the materials and structures, the process is made to produce a multi-layered outcome. It is hoped that the sights and sounds in the installation will provoke associations and reflect on how we should stop.
In order to amplify the emotion of the installation and give the process a dramatic treatment, I have also made a short experimental film around the installation, incorporating sound design to evoke a

FABRICATION PROCESS MATERIAL COMPONENT
The two hanging balls are the main content of the installation. In order to meeting the demand of making them "multi-layered collision products", I make a selection of the materials and designed the structure to combine them. The diagram below shows the balls evolving from an initial state of a sphere to a multi-layered state. INITIAL STATE
1. Poke some small holes in the balloon.
2. Fill the balloon into the glass ball.
3. Add small steel balls to the balloon.
4. Add white sand to the glass ball.
5. Fill the balloon with artifical plasma.

DYNAMIC PROBLEM
In order to make the two balls can continue to collide with each other, I tied a transparent fishing line on the two chains, respectively, through the perforations on the acrylic connected to the outside of the square box, you can pull the line to make the balls collide with each other.
I tried to use Arduino and motor to make a simple power device, using the code to control the motor and a stick to complete the pull and release of the fishing line to make the balls collide with each other. At this stage, the power unit cannot operate unaided, and I only tested the motor movement briefly.

FINAL DISPLAY
The whole process about the occurrence of the installation is that the two small balls collide with each other through the pulling force. In the process of collision, the glass ball will permeate the red liquid from inside, two small balls will be broken on the way to the collision. The red liquid splashed down in the box, black powder balloon hidden in the grass also exploded. On the right, the five states of the installation are displayed.
This state is the initial state. The two small balls are filled with white sand and suspended inside a transparent square box that has green grass at the bottom.
The two small balls began to collide with each other. With the passage of time, red liquid seeps out from the inside of the white sand, gradually soaking the white sand, and the balls turn red.
Status 1
Status 2
During the collision, a glass ball shattered, revealing a bag with steel balls and red liquid hidden inside. Red sand and broken glass were scattered on the grass, and the square box was splashed with red liquid.
The small ball continues to collide and the second glass ball also shatters, causing the balloon containing the black powder to explode. The box was filled with black powder.
The two heavy bags collided with each other, and in the process the steel balls flowed out from the break and landed on the grass. Eventually the box was filled with dirty liquid and powder, and the two small balls no longer existed.

SHORT FILM STORYBOARD
The short film records the collision of two small balls from the initial state to the final process of gradual breaking. In the film add sounds that do not belong to the display environment, such as explosions, to deepen the metaphor and set the atmosphere.
