ason Prophet, broker associate at Wheeler Steffen Sotheby’s International Realty in Claremont, is best known for two things: his professionalism and client care. He says that acting in his clients’ best interests means he doesn’t always do things the easy way or the shortest way. “But taking the long road and doing the job right pays off for my clients — and for me as well in terms of earning their trust. My priority is taking care of my clients and making sure they are 100 percent satisfied with everything.”

A lifelong resident of the community and a full-time real estate professional since 2005, Mason began his career while earning his business degree at Cal Poly Pomona. As a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, he was recruited to work as an assistant to a top-producing

Realtor® who was an alumnus of the same fraternity.

Mason completed the last two-and-a-half years of his degree as a full-time student while working 30 hours a week in real estate. As graduation neared, he decided to get his license. He went on to earn numerous professional designations, including Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR); Certified Residential Specialist (CRS); Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI); and Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES), before finally obtaining his broker’s license just two years into his career. He says it was important to him to have a complete understanding of the industry’s terminology, laws, ethics and contracts so that he could explain the process to clients in a clear, accurate way and provide them with the best possible real estate experience.

Mason manages his own transactions rather than relying upon an assistant or transaction coordinator. “I handle my own files to closing and beyond,” he says. “It’s beneficial to clients because I’m not going to meet with you and hand your file off to someone else. I’m your guy from day one until the day we close, and for anything you need after that.

Clients really like the one-on-one personal service. I’m the point man to talk to during the entire process. It puts people at ease throughout.” Mason works in partnership with another experienced agent so that his clients receive reliable and uninterrupted service if he is out of town or unavailable for any reason.

Professional Service With Personal Care When representing sellers, Mason makes sure their properties receive ample market exposure. “I never limit access to my listings from other agents in an effort to increase my chances of representing a buyer myself,” he explains. “That is almost always at the expense of the seller to whom I have a fiduciary duty. I make sure any qualified buyers and their agents have full access to the listing and time to see it and make a great offer. When my sellers accept an offer, I want them to know they’re not leaving money on the table.” Mason is also diligent when negotiating terms and protecting his clients from potential liability for lack of disclosure. “Handling a transaction correctly from beginning to end means no loose ends and

making sure everybody understands what they agreed to.”

Mason ensures that buyers find the right home by pointing out deficiencies they may not see. “I often tell a new buyer not to be surprised if I try to talk them out of homes. I have looked at thousands of homes and been through hundreds of home inspections. A house may be beautiful, but the roof or plumbing may be a problem, or it may be located two blocks from a freeway and they haven’t thought about the extra noise and pollution. I can offer my trained eye to see or anticipate things they may be concerned about. I often invite a roofer or plumber out to make sure they won’t have any unpleasant surprises when they move into their new home.”

Clients describe Mason as “excellent starting from the beginning to the end of the sale,” and “responsive to our requests and sensitive to our needs.” Another said this after closing multiple transactions with Mason: “Mason is a phenomenal agent! A husband and father, Mason loves having his extended family close by. “I come from a really close family. My

parents still live in La Verne in the house I grew up in.”

Mason and his two brothers all have daughters. “After raising three boys, my mom has four granddaughters and is having a lot of fun.” Mason serves on the board of the Claremont Kiwanis Club and is co-chair of the membership committee. He assists with fundraising activities for service projects that benefit underprivileged families and provide college scholarships for local youth.
