e proved his mettle early in life, addressing challenges with a sense of purpose and drive beyond his years. And Igor Nastaskin continues to thrive. “I always believed I had the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives by being someone who could guide them to success,” he reveals. “And I have found that, through real estate, I have the capacity to transform lives.”

There is certainty behind his words, spoken by one who has experienced the transformative nature of home ownership. Growing up in the Soviet Union, Igor recalls the move from communal apartments with shared kitchens and baths, to the relative luxury of a fifth-floor walkup with a single bedroom. “We were fortunate to have our own place,” he says. But communist life wasn’t what his mother, Bella, a divorced woman, had in mind for her younger son; the duo embarked upon a series of moves that took them to Israel, then France and Belgium before landing in Chicago where they laid their roots. Housing became so much more than a commodity in Igor’s young perspective; “It had a profound effect on one’s happiness,” he reflects.

Igor thrived in his adopted hometown. Less than five years after setting foot on U.S. soil, he was accepted into the prestigious University of Chicago, known for its rigorous academic programs. His path to success seemed well-established, until he was faced with a devastating tragedy. At just 19 years old, Igor lost his mother and his father (who was living abroad at the time) and was left to navigate the world on his own. His world came to a temporary halt; “With no money and no career, I had to put my education on hold until I could support myself,” he explains. It might have been so easy to slip off course, to numb the pain and to fall into obscurity, but Igor persevered. “My mom wouldn’t have wanted that,” he asserts. “For everything she braved as a single mother, she was my hero. I knew I had an obligation to do her proud.” So he found his way, working full time and returning to his educational pursuits. “I became very disciplined,” he recalls. “That has helped shape my professional success.”

Upon graduation Igor launched a career in finance, working as a CPA and going on to earn an MBA from Long Beach State. Though he excelled in his work, he eventually came to recognize that the corporate sector failed to fulfill a deep-seated desire to interact personally with others. “I couldn’t see the impact that my work had on people,” he says. “I wanted that connection.” Armed with an in-depth knowledge of tax laws, financial analytics and solid maturity as a result of many life’s obstacles he needed to overcome, Igor determined that he had a solid platform upon which to build a successful real estate business. By then he was married, with three children. “Failure was simply not an option,” he notes. “I knew that if I worked hard, I would make it.”

In a few years, he became one of the region’s most productive agents. Since 2003 he has sold more homes in the Hollywood Riviera than any other Realtor® and has ranked as the leading agent in sales volume there for seven of the last 10 years. In 2012 Igor was the top-producing agent within his office.

The numbers are impressive, but they represent a more significant accomplishment: his ability to successfully assist a growing base of repeat and referral clients.

“As a real estate professional, I’m not just facilitating transactions,” Igor explains. “I’m involved in people’s lives.

Because of my own experiences, I feel that I have the instincts and knowledge necessary to make rapid and effective decisions. This allows me to help guide my clients throughout the course of every purchase or sale.”

Igor works with a range of individuals, from first-time buyers to savvy investors. Solid communication allows him to delve into the unique wants and needs of every client, and to tailor his approach to maximize their results.

“Before we ever start talking about the number of bedrooms and baths they want, we address the deeper issues behind the purchase or sale,” he explains. “It’s a process that takes time. Once I understand what is motivating my client, I’m better able to assist them in achieving their goals.”

His approach, says Igor, has earned him the trust and loyalty of a thriving clientele. “People have an acute sense of an agent’s motivations,” he observes. “I’m on their side. I’m not here to close a single transaction; this is about establishing productive and lasting relationships.”

Igor adds that he treats his clients like family because, frequently, “they become like my extended family.”

The Nastaskin Family: Jacob, Isabelle, Igor, Suzanne, Aaron As a listing specialist, Igor offers comprehensive services including staging, professional photography and thorough marketing and advertising. The process of selling a home, he says, is a joint effort. “I believe that my clients should be engaged in the experience,” he says. “The more education and information they have, the better the results. They enjoy the opportunity.”

When working with buyers Igor is patient, knowledgeable and determined to assist them in realizing their goals. “I roll up my sleeves and go to work,” he says of his efforts; it’s not uncommon for him to door knock a neighborhood to eke out the property that will meet a client’s wants and needs. An astute negotiator, he dedicates himself to acquiring the information necessary to best position his clients for success.

“Whether I’m representing a buyer or a seller, I’m prepared,” Igor says. “Details make the difference, and I’m taking measures to best advocate on behalf of my clients.” Describing himself as “tough but fair,” Igor notes that he enjoys productive collegial relationships throughout the region.

Supporting his efforts is a skilled team of professionals who work to uphold Igor’s high standards of client care. His wife, Suzanne, is a public relations and communications specialist who acts as the team’s marketing manager. Administrative details are handled by the team’s transaction coordinator, and an ancillary group of industry professionals includes title, escrow, lending and insurance specialists whose services add significant value throughout the course of every transaction and beyond.

He is an accomplished professional committed to his clients’ success, but Igor is also a dedicated family man who enjoys time with his wife and children Isabelle, Aaron and Jacob, who are each successful in their own rights. An avid tennis player, he is an active member of the Riviera Sportsmen’s Club and is involved in the organization’s annual Relay for Life team benefiting the American Cancer Society.

Igor also supports local schools and has spearheaded the implementation of the Character Counts program at Riviera Elementary School.

Igor looks forward to continued success, and holds fast to the early motivation that has propelled his storied career.

“Growing up, I remember visiting people in their homes and watching how they interacted,” he recalls. “I’ve always loved the joy and happiness that is cultivated inside a home, and appreciate the opportunity to be a part of that.”
